We joined this cooking class and were absolutely thrilled! The market tour through Busan’s largest food market was definitely a highlight. Our guide was incredibly friendly, shared so much knowledge about food, and even gave us great restaurant recommendations. After some short text exchanges we met up at Bujeon Market, which turned out to be our favorite Busan Market. Its vibrant and full of people, different types of food and colors. We walked along while getting the groceries, watching the locals shop and taking in the sights. All the while our guide/ cook was stopping every now and then to point out a good place to eat or an interesting tidbit. Afterwards it was two short stops by train to the kitchen. The atmosphere was very relaxed – we chatted not only about cuisine but also about history and many other topics. The cooking itself was a lot of fun. The dish turned out delicious, and we prepared so much that we even had leftovers to take with us for the next day. One small thing: we initially thought Banchan would also be part of the class, as that’s how we understood the description. That wasn’t the case, but we ended up buying some excellent Banchan at the market instead. Overall, it was a wonderful experience that we would highly recommend!

Thank you for joining my Korean cooking class. You chose the braised beef short rib option among several options. If you chose the basic cooking option, you would have enjoyed three dishes you made, but since you chose the braised beef short rib option, no side dishes were provided. I hope there is no misunderstanding. I am so grateful that you enjoyed the recipe I provided. I have provided a recipe that is easy to make both in Korea and abroad, so I am sure you will be able to enjoy the same braised beef short rib back home. Thank you very much for joining my cooking class.

The tour coordinator is so sweet! Took the time to educate us on Korean culture and language. I would definitely recommend this experience and would especially recommend the braised tofu with spicy sauce! My friend and I thought it was time well spent!

Response from Host, Jun 2025

Thank you for joining my vegan cooking class. I provided gluten-free soybean paste as per your request. We made spinach soybean paste soup with gluten-free soybean paste. And we also made braised black bean and braised tofu stew with spicy sauce. Thank you so much for liking all my recipes. Thanks to you two, I was able to have a pleasant evening.

Marinated Abalone

Lu_Y, May 2025
We were hosted by Suyang Chang and enjoyed the cooking class. We visited a local market and sourced the most fresh cooking ingredients of the day. It's Marinated Abalone we learned and it is absolutely scrumptious. The recipe is easy to follow, but the result is surprisingly good. We love the marinated abalone and it is definitely ambrosial and glorious!

I was happy to be able to offer a cooking class to your family. Before we started the cooking class, I provided breakfast at Bujeon Market so that you and your family would not feel hungry during the cooking class. I was happy that you and your family enjoyed all the dishes I ordered for you. The cooking class also went smoothly. I provided air transport packaging material so that you could safely bring the marinated abalone to the UK. Thank you again for joining my cooking class.

Wonderful cooking class! Highly recommend this experience!

Donna_K, Oct 2024
We had a terrific evening preparing the marinated abalone. The meet up was easy and shopping for our ingredients at the market was an amazing experience. Dinner was a surprise bonus. The abalone was fantastic. We will be preparing this dish at home and using the marinade often.

Response from Host, Oct 2024

We visited the market, purchased abalone, and enjoyed bibimbap and dumplings at a restaurant in the market. After the meal, we moved to the kitchen and made marinated abalone. We had a great time while having fun conversations. Thank you so much.

Tasty experience in Busan

We had a great time exploring a local market and an even better time making several delicious Korean meals. Would recommend this class without reservation

Response from Host, Apr 2024

Thank you for joining my cooking class. You made japchae, braised tofu, and mini kimbap. After making japchae, you kindly gave it to a young man who was studying in the next room. Thank you for your kindness. I'm glad that you had a great time with my cooking class.

Great for cruise passengers

Rendal_M, Oct 2023
This is a great option for cruise ship passengers! Easy to access via taxi. The guide was amazing and truly taught us to make the dishes, included the recipes to recreate at home. He took us to a traditional local market and purchased all of the ingredients while giving a great tour. His kindness, sweet disposition, and knowledge made this tour even better than anticipated.

Thank you for participating in my Korean cooking class. According to your request, we met at the cruise terminal, moved to the market, bought food materials for cooking first, and moved to my kitchen. The kitchen is located in Jagalchi Market and close to the shuttle bus stop to the cruise terminal. We made kimchi and pork stew, stir-fried anchovies, and stir-fried eggplant tofu in cooking class. I have provided optimized recipes for foreign customers to easily make in their home countries. I was really happy to see you and your husband enjoy the food made with the recipe I provided you. I also provided soju so that you can enjoy the food. I recommend that you make delicious Korean food using my recipe at home. And you took the food you made in the cooking class to go, so I hope you enjoyed it on the cruise ship. Stir-fried anchovies are good to eat with rice and can be eaten with soju. Thank you again for participating in my cooking class.

Flra_D, May 2023
It was a really nice experience. We enjoyed good food and learned more about the korean culture. Would recommend to anyone!

Response from Host, Jun 2023

I was happy to introduce Korea's representative side dish. Side dishes, which were common in restaurants in the past, have become difficult to see due to recent inflation. Stir-fried peanuts and anchovies and braised black beans are one of Koreans' favorite side dishes. It is not only easy to make but also easy to store for a long time. If you keep it in the refrigerator, it can be stored for about two weeks. Thank you again for participating in my Korean cooking class.

I would do this 10x if I could!

Ethan_J, Apr 2023
This is the perfect way to get to know Busan and Korean cuisine! Our guide/chef was infectiously friendly, extremely knowledgeable, and eager to discuss culture - Korean or otherwise. The market tour was awesome. We went to several markets in Korea on our own, but its an entirely different experience having a local guide that knows it like the back of their hand. The market was very local, hardly any tourists. After we learned about dozens of vegetables and fishes, he took us to a cheap local spot for a quick snack of tteokbokki and Fried Fish cakes (a Busan classic). The cooking experience was lovely. He knew a wide variety of dishes and let us completely customize our class. He did a fantastic job focusing on the key parts of each recipe and showing how the various recipes / techniques relate to each other - something we never would have understood on our own. He also sent us all the recipes afterwards and went out of his way to help us find restaurants to visit and things to do in Busan - definitely get this man's recommendations! We enjoyed spending an evening with our guide. It was very relaxed and felt very friendly. You can tell he has a passion for cultural exchange and meeting new people.

My mission is to introduce unknown Korean food to many foreigners through cooking classes. i would like to contribute to the universalization of Korean food by introducing more diverse Korean food to foreigners. I was really happy to enjoy pleasant conversations on various topics during the cooking class. In order to meet guests' expectations, I will continue to make efforts to make it easier and more fun for participants to learn more diverse Korean dishes. Thanks again for joining my cooking class.

Great experience all round!

After taking us to a local market, Suya (apologies for the spelling, Suya , I'm not sure how to spell your name) took us to his place where he taught us to cook several dishes from scratch. He explained the different steps and we cooked. This was great, as I had previously been on a cooking course where most had been pre-prepared and we only assembled the various elements - not fun at all! Suya is also very generous with portions and we had enough food for 6 people, even though there were only 2 of us on the course. We recommend this experience 100%

Excellent cooking experience in Busan!

Cheryl_O, Oct 2019
Started out with a visit to the market to pick up fresh ingredients. Then an awesome cooking lesson which included seasoned dried pollack, seasoned spinach, jap chae, and pollack soup. Simple recipes can be replicated at home, and steps beyond the standard korean pancake, galbi, bibimbap fare. Thank you Suyang for being such a gracious host and for all your patience with our amateur cooking skills. Highly recommend this cooking class!!
