I use Viator all over the world, and have always had 4-5 star experiences. This last minute “on sale” choice sadly proved the adage of “you get what you pay for” with our ex-pat tour guide arriving the minute (or two)after our tour was to begin. “I’m not a professional tour guide” were her first words to us and within 10 minutes we knew she was right. No historical fun facts, narration as we went along, photo aides tour guides have to show past and present - just vague minimal facts, “I’ve heard but haven’t been” comments, constantly asking us which way we wanted to go and us constantly saying “we want to see interesting history of the area” - while there was a set itinerary when we signed up for the tour, I kept feeling like I had to ask “are we seeing this?” After an hour and a half my sister and I just ended it, as we thought we could do better on our own. I have never NOT tipped a guide….until now. I looked up everything we saw to get more information. A terrible waste of time.
