Had an amazing time up here today! Juan, our guide, is incredibly chill and knowledgeable. The landscape is amazing and he clearly loves it too. James, our driver, navigated the streets of Bogotá like a pro and was also chill and polite as could be. Couldn't have asked for a better trip. Would reccomend to anyone in a heartbeat who has a love for nature and a desire to see such a unique landscape! 10/10

Rainiest day they’ve ever permitted the hike, according to my guide, yet it made it even more special because, of course, the paramo ecosystem revolves around the water cycle! You can’t be upset when you’re watching it work naturally, as intended! Also, my guide was extremely endearing, in-tune with my safety in the slick path, and very funny. I could not recommend this adventure more!

A great 3+ hour hike with stunning scenery. Challenging uphill but worth the effort. Juan, our guide, was brilliant. He paced the walk so we were comfortable and told us lots of interesting stuff about the paramo ecosystem, the flora and fauna. We only had two days in Bogota and this trip had been recommended. No regrets!

Beautiful hike up the Sumapaz páramo. Was a 1.5 hr drive from Bogota, and the trek started in a rural area. Got lucky with visibility and weather. Juan was super friendly and knowledgeable!

I had a really lovely time on this tour with Juan, the guide, who was kind and very knowledgeable. The plant life of the Páramo is spectacular and this tour is a good insight into this unique ecosystem. The breakfast was delicious, and the agua de panela and arepa after the hike were the cherry on top. My family is from the Páramo region of Venezuela, so this was a very personal, even spiritual experience. Juan did a wonderful job in guiding the walk and provided thorough context to both the city of Bogotá and the outer areas. I would love to book another tour one day with Juan, and I highly recommend you do so if you want a look at one of the world’s most fascinating ecosystems.

Andrea was a great guide, fluent in English and did the tour even tho it was just me. Make sure to bring sunscreen and a hat because I got burned even tho it was cloudy!!! And lots of water!!

Short hike but quick gain in high altitude so be prepared for strenuous effort. However, it's worth it. Since, it's a small group, it was more personal.

Just two people with the guide and driver. The car was not in a so good condition and road was bumpy. The guide hiked really fast without offering necessary stops. Be aware that the elevation is high like 3500-4000m so one can be out of breath. The breakfast and snack were decent. The scene was amazing though. On the top can be quite windy and cold so be prepared. The hike was quite challenging with a lot of hard steps and muds, so be prepared.

We arrived at the meeting place and drove for about 45 minutes to a restaurant. The tour guide Andrea told us about out the breakfast options and the itinerary for the day. We arrived at the restaurant and ordered the costilla de res soup with a tinto “coffee”. Our group was small (4) and as we ate we began to get to know one another. Once the meal was completed we all got back in the van and drove another hour to our destination. At the drop off point our guide Andrea notified us that the van could no longer travel further in and we’d commence our climb from that point. By then it had started raining and it was cold. We were glad we had waterproof jackets and tennis. We started the climb to meet up with the National Park guide (his home). There we were able to use the restroom and fix our backpacks ect. Once we were all ready we began the climb. It continued to rain making the road muddy and slippery (not an easy climb). Our tour guide notified us that it takes no more than two hours to get to the top (this was meant for avid hikers). She was extremely patient with us as we climbed and offered words of encouragement throughout the climb. The wind made it that much harder to climb combined with rain it was no easy task but we made it to the top. This has been the most challenging climb in my life and I can honestly say it’s not for the weak of mind or heart. The altitude in itself is already difficult to overcome. I’m glad to say we climbed it and made it to the top. We did take our time and stopped along the way to catch our breath. Guide Andrea was extremely helpful all the way up and down.

Great tour. My guide, Juan was very knowledgeable and kept cheerful company while hiking the trail into Paramo view points. After I was picked up in the designated spot, we stopped for traditional breakfast (included) before starting the hike. On the way back from the hike, we stopped at a farmer’s house and had yummy arepa and a hot panela drink. Overall, the tour was amazing and it is a must do day trip if you are visiting Bogota.

An excellent opportunity to discover a place which looks almost otherworldly to anyone, who is not familiar with it. It takes about an hour to reach the edge of the Sumapaz highlands from Bogotá by the provided private transfer. Once the car drops your group on a secluded dirt road, you immediately begin your ascent towards the Páramo highlands. As you gain elevation, the fauna is changing around you step by step. High above, only certain unique plants are able to thrive and survive - they dominate the mysterious landscape, which is very cold and humid all year round, and often engulfed by thick clouds. Sumapaz itself is a protected area, not only because of its unique natural treasures, but due to the fact that this place collects the primary water supply for the city of Bogotá.

This is a fascinating place. High altitude, cool air, on-and-off rain mean that you need to bring something warm, but it is 100% worth it.

Out of all the tours we did, this one was hands down our favorite. Visiting Sumapaz truly felt like stepping onto another planet. Our guide, Gabi, was amazing. She’s so kind, funny, and incredibly knowledgeable. You could tell how much she loved this place, and her enthusiasm was contagious.
The hike itself was stunning—challenging at times, but totally manageable if you go at your own pace. When we reached the top, I remember thinking, this feels like an oasis. The landscape was filled with vibrant colors and all kinds of unique plants I’d never seen before.
It was such a special and unforgettable experience. I already can’t wait to go back.
I would recommend bringing either rain boots and waterproof hiking boots.

A really special opportunity to see a beautiful, unique ecosystem. Jacky was an excellent guide and I learned a lot!

Spectacular hike with views of the surrounding mountains and unique flora! Prepare for wet weather, regardless of the season. Not strenuous for those who are accustomed to the outdoors - a 6.5/10. My guide Juan was good company and shared his extensive knowledge along the way. About 6 to 7 hours including transport.
guan_h, Jun 2024
The hike was a tad challenging at certain part where you just have to becareful with loose rocks and slippery mud, especially descending. Otherwise, it just requires you to move at your own comfort pace as you also have to battle the high altitude. Breathless at times as I thought I could run uphill. The duration for the whole event is about 4 hours. Wear proper hiking boots and pants in order to prevent any friction scratching by the rocks or prickly plants. There are plenty of indigenous greens to appreciate on this vast land. Breathe in the cool air and just take in the expanse landscape.

Excellent tour with a great guide. The hike was not too difficult, and led to stunning views. Great breakfast, snacks and insights on the area.

Small and only group with access to this area
Weather just held out on a day forecast to be wet. Five more characters.

Breakfast included. Really nice view and fantastic scene of this high altitude ecosystem! Recommended! Be aware of altitude illness.

The expérience was Amazing. Alejandro lives and gives his passion perfectly and completly. The hike was a bit challenging coz of the altitude but the scenery was unbelievable. I d recommend it thousand times and i d do it again for sure.

What a wonderful tour! The plants and landscape were amazing. It was one of the best hikes of my life and certainly a huge highlight from the Colombia tour. Our guide was lovely, connected to the space, great insights into the plants, people and landscape. I appreciated that our guide took more connection with the amazing area on a deeper level which allowed the group to have some time to reflect and take it all in. The hike itself was not too hard, however, it took me at least half an hour to figure out how to catch my breath with the altitude. I’m quiet fit and even for me, it was tough. I’d give yourself tons of compassion and time in getting up the mountain.

We loved this entire trip. Alejandro was an excellent guide, and he helped make this hike into a more meaningful experience. The scenery was incredible and we learned a lot about this distinct environment. Visiting the farm for breakfast before the hike was also very special, and the food was delicious. We appreciated Alejandro taking care to help accommodate some dietary restrictions in our group. Even the drive from Bogota was enjoyable and interesting, as Alejandro told us about the city and the various neighborhoods we were passing through. The hike was challenging, primarily due to the high altitude, but this was manageable and totally worth it. This felt like a unique Colombian experience and was definitely a highlight of our trip. I would highly recommend it, as would the others in my group.
On a side note, I decided to bring some coca leaves to chew during the hike, which ended up being quite helpful for me and others in the group for coping with the altitude. You can find them in various health food type stores in Bogota if interested.

The guide was attentive and kind to guide us through this amazing and unique place in the world. The trail requires a little physical effort and a lot of attention to the effects of altitude.

Une visite qui en vaut la peine à proximité de Bogota. Un écosystème exceptionnel et des paysages magnifiques. Prévoir de bons souliers de marche, idéalement. Il y a une bonne montée pendant la première heure et demi.
