Lovely but not preferable to a park tour or a hike.

This was a very nice tour but not ultimately worth the opportunity cost—the hummingbirds were beautiful but with cost and travel time, compared to the other tours and outings I planned, it would have been better to spend the day on one of the park and hiking tours to spot birds and wildlife!

We believe this review to be a posting error. We do not recognize this booking and we do not have record of the traveler's name on our tours. Without a date, name of the guide or transport details it's impossible for us to verify when this happened or if it was even one of our clients. We have asked Tripadvisor to revise this posting as we do not believe it belongs to us. All of our recent tours to this location have been graded 5 stars by our clients, so the comments made here definitely come as a surprise.

This is an absolutely must do when visiting Bogota. You get to see the beautiful country and the hummingbirds are absolutely amazing. Juan Carmelo and Hector were the best guides.

Hummingbirds!! Guide Miguel Angel and driver Hector were wonderful. They were attentive to every need. My nephew and I enjoyed this tour very much. I would highly recommend Andes Ecotours.

Hummingbird experience

The guide Camillo and driver Hector were both great to explain the different kinds of birds. They were both also very nice people. We met the very friendly owner of the Kolibri observatory and she also explained about the birds and the surroundings. I can really recommend this trip for birds lovers and getting close up with the birds.

Not as Long at Looking at the Hummingbirds as Advertised

While the guides were good, the time at the observatory was two hours (not six hours as advertised even with travel time). Communication with the main office was also spotty. I had to ask two times about my pickup time and I was only told on the mid-morning the day before. So I didn't see the response till I was back at my hotel (which was not one of the stops that they had listed. So part of my problem was trying to figure out to get to that stop in time.) I was also never told that I was the only person on the tour, even when we were heading outside of Bogota. When I realized that we were not stopping by the arena as noted, I asked if I was the only one. It was only then they acknowledged it. The observatory was lovely and the guides were friendly-but this was the most expensive tour that I did in my five days in Bogota (at $175) and it was by far, the shortest.

Upon careful research this is what we found regarding your two-star review which is the first one we have received in 10 years of service. This tour is advertised as lasting 5 to 6 hours total with up to 3 hours of birdwatching time. The parking lot ticket at the Hummingbird Observatory for your tour on May 28th shows a time stamp for entrance at 9:45am and departure at 12:45pm. We are adding an image of this ticket to our tour photos so that anybody can verify that the 3 hours of birdwatching time were indeed completed. The total tour time was 5.5 hours because of reduced traffic. Our messaging records show the you wrote the following: "Hi, can you confirm the time of when you will be picking me up on Saturday? My confirmation number is 1265829746. Thanks! Kimberley Knox May 26, 2022, 05:40 PM" We answered the following: "Hi Kimberley, your guide for tomorrow is Camilo and your driver is Hector. They will both meet you at the Hotel Boutique you selected. Cr 39 # 25-26 at 8.30am. Please meet them near the entrance as they are not allowed into the building. Also, the vehicle is a blue SUV. Best, Andrés Andrés Umaña May 27, 2022, 07:36 AM" So you did not ask twice for the departure time and we answered your message as soon as our office opened the following day. This communication happened 24 hours before the tour departure. You also wrote: "Thank you! Is it still possible to rent a pair of binoclaurs? Kimberley Knox May 27, 2022, 05:57 PM" Even though our office was closed, we managed to find you a pair of BINOCULARS last minute for your tour the next morning. With regards to being the only person in the tour, that is because you booked by yourself so the expectation is that you would be the only one assisting. We have no record of you asking us any question regarding the amount of people joining. Finally, with regards to the price of the tour, we do not have any record of you mentioning an issue with the cost previous to booking it. For a tour with pick-up, drop-off, a private driver, a private certified ornithologist guide, a private 7 passenger 4x4 SUV, all entrances paid and ran professionally on time we do not believe that $175 dollars is expensive. Plus you have other options like the botanical gardens or city parks where you can do birdwatching on your own for free. If you book our tours for two or more people, the price per person is reduced and it is a lot more affordable. However, we strive to pay a living wage to all of our staff and to run quality tours like the one you experienced so we need to charge a fair price for our services. Your tour happened on time, it was run on schedule, had no issues whatsoever, the staff did great, all communication was answered on time and it happened as it was supposed to happen and as it is advertised online. We could not change anything or improve anything about it. It was a tour like any other that we do at the Observatory so we really do not understand your dissatisfaction with it. We value and appreciate your time on this matter even though we are clueless about why you scored your experience with two stars. If you care to elaborate further, we would be happy to hear from you and make any necessary adjustments to better the experience for everyone. We wrote you a message a few days ago but we haven't heard back from you since.
