The guide, Aria, was great, she provided us with good explanations and the trip was good too! Unlikely we couldn’t visit the ancient wall, ‘cause it was closed.

Jackie Chan is the best

This was our 2nd tour in Beijing and it was amazing. Our guide was Jackie Chan (English name after the actor) and he was very knowledgeable and very nice. He knew exactly what we wanted to do, and showed us some great spots around the wall. The summer palace was really beautiful as well.

Tourist trap

We essentially overpaid just for transportation. A third-party company arranged the car, which created more confusion than if we had simply booked our own. We were under the impression we had paid for a private tour, only to be told later that we hadn’t — in the end, we just paid for someone to arrange a ride. The Great Wall itself was an incredible experience, but booking through Viator felt like a costly mistake and an unnecessary middle step. To make things worse, the company misinformed us, saying the only way down was by cable car or by walking all the way back, which turned out not to be true. Overall, we wish we had arranged the trip independently — it would have been cheaper, clearer, and far less frustrating.
