While you can admire the Columbus Monument from the outside for free, there’s a fee to ride the elevator to the observation deck at the top. In 2025, adult admission tickets are €10, and it's €6 for children (4-12 years) and seniors over 65 years. Children under 4 visit for free.

Built for the 1888 Universal Exhibition, the Columbus Monument is one of Barcelona’s most instantly recognizable landmarks and a panoramic viewpoint. The column stands at the southern end of La Rambla and is capped with a 24-foot (7.2-meter) high bronze statue of Christopher Columbus pointing out to sea.

The monument stands at the bottom of La Rambla and Plaça Portal de la Pau, looking out over Barcelona’s historic harbor of Port Vell. To get there, take the metro to Drassanes station (Line 3) or bus routes 59, 120, D20, H14, N0, or N6 to the Portal de la Pau stop.

The Columbus Monument is open daily year-round except for Christmas Day and New Year’s Day. Opening hours vary throughout the year, with the viewing platform typically opening at 8.30am and closing at 8.30pm in summer and 2.30pm in winter. Of course, you can admire the column’s exterior at any time.

The viewing platform offers panoramic views across Barcelona. To the north, gaze up along La Rambla, Barcelona’s most famous street, and beyond to the Gothic Quarter and Barcelona Cathedral. To the south, look out across the historic port, the Mediterranean coast, and Montjuïc Hill.
