Enjoyed the train ride what a great and funny experience the guys were good and helpful it seems as if the ladies who work there are not very friendly
The actual train ride is 15 to 20 minutes. You go up Cherry Hill and then you stop for 1/2 hour to see a beautiful view and then you come back down the hill to the train station.
The tour guide was very good and told us a lot of history.
The staff were kind, courteous, and outgoing. We learned a lot about the railway system in Barbados.
The first part of the tour was okay. Nothing to rave about- may be a longer journey, with other talking points. The guide was pleasant and upbeat. The second part- well Virginia was a boss! Very knowledgeable and made the tour her own.
Was an amazing experience and the staff was so knowledgeable and very helpful and not forgetting very humorous 10 out of 10
We had a lovely time on the railway. The conductor was very knowledgeable providing history and information about the beautiful landscape. A special shout out to Michelle and Jesenta who were absolutely amazing and welcoming. After a late arrival they were still able to accommodate us. They saved the day.
Very beautiful and educational experience. In order to understand the island it's a must visit. From the train rides to the great house, you're surely be leaving with lots of memories. The view from cherry Hill is the most beautiful experience. Make sure to just take a minute and soak it all in.
The steam railway journey was fantastic. The young conductor was highly knowledgeable, engaging and passionate.
The surrounding scenery at Cherry Hill is lush and breathtaking.
I knocked 2 stars off for the price. I paid USD 65.00 for a journey that was effectively 10 minutes each way.
It's worth seeing the place it's great fun i would recommend to people to go see it whom never been to Barbados before
We had a fantastic day out on the Victorian Steam Railway. From the moment you arrive at the station, the attention to historical detail is incredible. The staff and volunteers are so friendly and knowledgeable, and the sight, sound, and smell of the authentic steam engines are mesmerizing. Sitting in the beautifully restored carriages and watching the countryside roll by was a highlight. A wonderful, nostalgic experience for all ages—highly recommended!"
Great excursion for families with children and if you take the rum tasting option at the end it’s very tasty and informative.
ALL of the staff is amazing. Professional, kind and so very well versed. I wish I could remember our our train attendant and gift shop agents names. 10 out of TEN!!
This App Seems Tobe A Ripe Off I Paid 185 Us Dollars For Something That’s Only 135 Us Dollars And I’m From Barbados I Will Never Use This App Againn
That Trip Was 30 Mins For 184 Us Dollars
An amazing trip, great views. Informative, friendly and fun tour guide. Quick stop for photographs and souvenirs. Great experience, highly recommended.
It was excellent. The tour guide and everyone was very friendly. I’d do this again but with a group.
The guides are very professional, their explanations are clear and delivered with a great sense of humor. The grounds are well-maintained and beautifully decorated with magnificent trees and flowers.
Excellent excursion, brilliant and rich history full with a very knowledgeable crew in the conductor and Drivers truly magnificent experience
Great for those interested in the history of Barbados. The tour instructors for the train ride and the Abbey were very knowledgeable and engaging.
Touring St. Nicholas Abbey was the highlight. Virginia, the guide, was excellent and it was evident how much she enjoys her job and her boss with her enthusiasm. She was incredibly knowledgeable and the house was fascinating!
Our only issue is that it was confusing in selecting the train and the house tour in that our train ride was very truncated.
An enjoyable ride in an old spark engined carriage. The guide was outstanding, giving the history of the plantation as well as the railway.
The house was small, but full of bajan history, having a commentary from our guide which was clear and easily understandable.
We were also shown the rum distillery, the production of the bottles from 5 years to 40 in strength. We were treated to a sampling of both the white rum and 5 year rum ….. very interesting and tasty. The gift shop was small yet packed with easily priced goods - this was a plaesure as so often the gift shops in other places takes a larger site than the workshops. Well done management.
We ate at the small restaurant, with food which was easy and enjoyable, well run by the staff.
This whole experience was first rate.
An enjoyable trip on the train through the grounds with spectacular views up Cherry Tree Hill. The tour round the house and rum tasting was informative, if a little quick. Worth the money though,
Excellent trip well narrated and laid out well for 2 1/2 hour excursion with rum tasting with train trip
It was absolutely amazing, great history shared in a very entertaining way for everyone to understand. Views 10/10, staff 10/10, the entire experience was 10/10.
I book this tour for my friend Birthday, he love nature. And he enjoys the scenery. I would highly recommend this tour
The train ride is too short if you take the basic one of $35, not worth it plus the taxi ride is long and expensive too for such a 10 minute ride one way and 10 minutes back and the rest is just talking about the history of the place!
The train is fun, even though it was really crowded. Do not recommend paying for the rum tasting. You get two small sips of the worst options and even if you’d want to buy a bottle of the older vintage there isn’t an option to try. Based on the ones we tried the quality wasn’t worth investing in the actual ones we would drink.
Beautiful scenic train ride. Variety of vendors. Virginia was an excellent guide for the great house.
Overall, everything was great! My kids loved the train ride. They even got to blow the whistle of the train. The staff were very friendly and nice. We had a great time, the only complaint would be the train ride to the look out and back was less than 10 minutes one way. It was a bit short!
What a lovely adventure to do when on holiday to Barbados and you get to see some beautiful things and you also get to taste some rum at the end
Response from Host, May 2025
Thanks so much for visiting the Abbey and also for your review. St Nicholas Abbey is a very special place and the family do try and restore it with much love and passion, and it is very rewarding when visitors enjoy it with us. Thank you. Anna Warren
Viator gave us the wrong time for meeting the train. We had tickets for the 2:45 pm train on March 21. We arrived 10 minutes early only to find out there was no train. The train we were told departed at 2:45 actually departed at 2 pm, so we missed it! Thank you Viator!
