We wanted to explore Harrison’s Cave, but since we love being hands-on and adventurous, we opted for the Exploration Adventure instead of the tram, and we were SO happy we did!
Our guide was Rawle, aka “Mountain Goat,” a nickname he earned as a child from climbing the ravines to retrieve cricket balls. We also learned that in Bajan culture, many people go by nicknames rather than their legal names, which I loved learning!
We crawled, climbed, and explored through the caves while learning all about their formations and conservation. There were even tiny seashells embedded in the ceilings, it was incredible to think that all of this was once beneath the sea.
The experience went far beyond just the cave itself. Rawle taught us about the surrounding gully and how beautifully everything in the ecosystem is interconnected. We learned about medicinal plants, huge hollow trees with fibrous root systems that help prevent erosion, and strong vines that children would climb and that were traditionally used for basket weaving. He even picked and ate Barbadian almonds and hog plums straight from the trees, and they were delicious!
After crawling through the caves, covering ourselves in natural clay masks, washing off, and changing, we grabbed some fish cakes and enjoyed the bird aviary.
Rawle was phenomenal, knowledgeable, funny, and most importantly, incredibly safety-conscious. I felt completely secure exploring with him, especially knowing he grew up climbing and exploring these caves himself. He was also amazing at capturing photos and videos of us throughout the entire experience without us even having to ask—he just did it so we could fully enjoy the moment and have those memories to look back on. I was SO appreciative of that. Pickup and drop-off were also easy and pleasant.
And honestly, pictures do not do this place justice. The caves and surrounding gully are even more incredible in person, you truly have to experience it for yourself.
A full 10/10 experience. If you’re physically capable and want something more adventurous and immersive, DO the Exploration Adventure. You will not regret it!!! 🇧🇧🪨🌿

Tough to put into words, for context Barbados is the 60th country/ commonwealth I've visited across 6 continents, this tour is top 2 on things I've done in my life! The crawl through the caves, semi submerged in water and the stuff i learned thru my guide Rawle was top notch. His patience, educating me on what was expected and knowledge just added extra to an experience I'll never forget! This is not for anyone afraid to get wet for several hours, crawl over rocky terrain on their stomach, get muddy or scared of the dark! This is a thrill seeking adrenaline rush type tour which you will not be disappointed with!

Frist off our guides Rawle & Jirah were excellent. Rawle especially made our experience an exceptional one. Come prepared to get wet & be on your hands & knees crawling through caves. The water is a little cold but believe me ITS WORTH IT. Be sure to wear long or short sleeve & long pants active wear & water shoes. Bring a change of clothing & underwear. You must go see the birds after the cave activity. If you can get Rawle to take you, that will be awesome.
