Geoff picked us up, and along the 2.5 hr drive he shared his knowledge of all things New Zealand as a 4th generation Kiwi, with consideration that some of the riders might have just traveled over 25 hrs to get to NZ. Once on the movie set, Andrew was our guide with a wondrous enthusiasm after growing up on set as his father worked on the original movie/set. Walking thru the hobbit 'holes', and the level of detail transports you back to the movies. A brilliant experience that I'm grateful I didn't miss.

Adil the driver was amazing highlighting not to miss landmarks on the journey there and providing water and snacks once we had finished the tour. Welll worth the early start. Not just for fans of the books or films

We booked this excursion through Viator a couple of months before our cruise to New Zealand. This was one of Ten excursions we booked. Viator agent assured us they were familiar with our cruise schedule however Auckland and Beyond the local tour group knew we couldn’t disembark until 6:30am and tour operator informed us tour pickup was scheduled for 6am and would not wait past 6:05am. They did not make arrangements for us to join the group and refused to refund our payment of $670. They claimed it was our fault for not being on time. They knew we wouldn’t be able to get off ship and had notified us less than 24 hrs before our excursion. The Viator agent assured us they were familiar with the ships schedule. We were not notified before the 24 hrs for us to cancel. They waited til after the 24hrs to notify us they would not wait for us.

It was amazing. I highly recommend it. I’m a J.R.R Tolkien fan having read The Hobbit & The Lord of the Rings. Hobbiton brought it to life for me.

We stayed the night before at the SkyCity hotel and easily found the tour the morning of. We had a great time with our driver who gave a lot of facts during the drive down to Hobbiton. We were well organized and got a chance to see everything at the movie set.

My husband and I had a great time at Hobbiton!
If you’re traveling around New Zealand, first know that from Tauranga is a shorter drive (50min) to Hobbiton than from Auckland (2.5hr). However this tour was very well organized and I highly recommend it.
Our tour guide was Arman, and he was very friendly and knowledgeable.
After you pickup the guests from various hotels you have a 2:15hr drive to hobbiton through the beautiful countryside. Once you arrive, you’ll be able to use the restrooms, order coffee and/or food at the cafe and peak into the shop.
Then you will go on your 2.5hr Hobbiton tour. Another short bus ride to the set, where you’ll disembark, and walk through the Shire.
Our tour guide in Hobbiton was Andrew and he was delightful. There are an abundant of photo opportunities & Andrew does not hurry you through. However, Andrew also does not wait for you to catch up to talk at certain spots, to ensure the tour keeps moving. So if you are busy taking photos, you may miss a few of the facts he has. I did not feel upset by this though, so it’s your prerogative! You get to walk through a hobbit home and are encouraged to touch, sit, etc all of the items. Then you end the walking tour at the Green Dragon for a complimentary beverage (beer, cider, or ginger beer). There are also some snack for purchase here as well.
Once that’s completed and you make your way back to gift shop, you’re loaded back on the bus to Auckland. We were given the opportunity to make a detour to ice cream and a quaint town in Cambridge. Highly suggest saying yes to both if your group has time.

Poor communication. Waited at Port Authority because of discrepancy with pick up point. I contacted them numerous times where I would be. Their phone message number was full. They marked me as a no-show .

Had the best time at Hobbiton with Aimon as our guide. He was very friendly and we even stopped at a great ice cream place (wasnt in the itinerary) as a plus!

This was a must do! As a LOTRs fan, this checked every box and honestly felt surreal. I just wish there were less people in all the photos of I took but short of a private tour, this wouldn't be possible. We had a great time and this became the highlight of our time in NZ. Well worth it!

Bring a hat- sunscreen, and pending guided tour or on your own- water. Immersive experience right from the get- if you’re a fan of the movies (and even the books come to life!), you will not be disappointed. A must experience!

As a BIG fan of the movie, i was excited to see the shire. I was extremely impressed with the tour, except i think it was a bit TOO touristy. If they possibly scheduled tours a lil more spaced out, i think the experience would be more enjoyable. It felt a lil rushed because there is always people in front and behind our group and it made picture taking a challenge as people were always in ur frame

We went on the Hobbiton Movie Set Small Group Guided Tour from Auckland, and it was a fantastic experience! We especially appreciated the small group size, the comfortable vehicle, and how well everything was organized. The service was excellent from start to finish.

The tour was well arranged and punctual.
People over there were super nice.
My only problem was that a bit over price for 8-9 hours, I paid 124 € for transportation plus 80 € for entrance.

Our drive down to Matamata with Daved (Auckland & Beyond Tours) was really great. He was so knowledgeable and gave a us a wonderful primer on NZ history. Ask him about some great restaurant recommendations when you get back from Hobbiton!
Sam, our tour guide at Hobbiton, was a riot! We got to see the entire filming location and grabbed a pint at the Green Dragon. Do not miss the walk-thru hobbit home! Get ready for some really good puns and dad jokes if you end up with Sam.

This has a bit of a drive from downtown Auckland but the experience is worth it. We had a wonderful guide from the time we entered the van till we got to the drop off point. Our Hobbiton guide was great and we had a wonderful experience.

Beautiful country and a great way to see it is to tour a little outside of Auckland. Not very familiar with the Hobbits or Lord if the Rings but I was fascinated by what was more than a “movie set.”

It was worth the time and the experience was very good at Hobbiton. Our rides to and from were the hotel were good and in comfortable van though our driver was very hard to understand so whatever he said became background noise. He let us waited in the van while he spent time catching up with his friends.

Fun and interesting trip to the Hobbit movie set. We learned a lot about the making of the movies. Location is beatuiful.
One downside was the ride from Auckland. 14 people in a van with minimal commentary from the guide.
