Our driver communicated well. We were picked up at our hotel and drove to marathon. We stopped at the start line for the marathon and continued to the marathon museum. After the museum we went to the archaeological museum of marathon. We drove the marathon route back to Athens to the stadium where the marathon finishes. We were disappointed that we did not go to marathon beach or the battle ground as stated in the itinerary.
Tour guide was not knowledgeable about the sites in marathon. He did not know where the main battlefield was and actually told us it was by the museum which was inaccurate. There was a main battlefield a few miles away with the burial mound of the Athenians. The driver incorrectly pointed at the mound by the museum and said that was the Athenian battlefield.
In addition, he made disparaging comments about various minorities in Greece. Please keep political discussions to yourself.
