Viator offered no protection when the tour operator changed the terms of our booking.

I booked this excursion months in advance through Viator for my bachelorette trip in Scottsdale. From the day I booked until the day before the excursion, the operator provided one meeting location. Then, the night before the excursion, after business hours, they texted us a completely different meeting location that was approximately an hour away and in a remote area. We were also told rideshare services were not an option. As out-of-town travelers, we had planned transportation based on the original meeting location. With less than 24 hours’ notice, it was impossible to arrange alternative transportation. When we contacted the operator, instead of honoring the original booking information or offering a reasonable solution, they demanded an additional $500 to transport us to the new location. When we could not accommodate this last-minute change, they kept our $1,350 and refused a refund. We provided Viator with screenshots showing the original meeting location, the last-minute change, and our communications with the operator. Despite this evidence, Viator sided with the operator and denied our request for a refund. I booked through Viator because I believed there would be some level of customer protection if a tour operator materially changed the terms of a reservation. Unfortunately, that was not my experience. Travelers should be aware that even if an operator changes critical details of your booking at the last minute, you may still be left responsible for the full cost. This experience turned what should have been the highlight of my bachelorette weekend into one of its biggest disappointments. I cannot recommend either this tour operator or Viator based on how this situation was handled.

We're genuinely sorry that your experience did not meet your expectations and that you were unable to join us for your tour. We do want to clarify a few important points for future travelers. The meeting location was not changed the night before your tour. The remote trailhead location and transportation requirements are clearly disclosed in our Viator listing, on our website, and in the confirmation information sent after booking. The reminder text sent at 8:00 PM the evening before your tour—approximately 15 hours before your scheduled departure—simply reiterated those same details and included driving directions to help guests arrive smoothly. Because our tours operate in a remote area of the Sonoran Desert, Uber and other rideshare services are not reliable transportation options. This information is provided in advance so guests can plan accordingly. We also maintain a list of local transportation providers and are happy to assist guests with arranging transportation when given sufficient notice. In this case, we were first made aware that transportation was needed approximately 45 minutes before your scheduled tour time. Unfortunately, with your group located approximately 54 minutes from our trailhead, there was not enough time to coordinate transportation before the tour began. The transportation option discussed with your group was offered solely as a last-minute accommodation after learning of the situation and was never a required fee or a change to the terms of your reservation. Viator independently reviewed the documentation provided by both parties before making its decision regarding your refund request. While we understand your disappointment with the outcome, we stand by the accuracy of the information provided throughout the booking process and remain committed to communicating important tour details clearly and consistently. We appreciate your feedback and wish you and your group all the best in your future travels.

Neck gator is a must. If...

Neck gator is a must. If you have back and neck problems rethink going bec it can be quite jarring and potentially cause a flare. Overall, it was a great excursion during our trip to Scottsdale. If we ever make it back it will be something we would consider doing again. Guides were super friendly and easy to make conversation with. We didn’t feel rushed or get left behind during the tricky parts of the trial. Super fun and enjoyable.

This was such a blast. Our guide was awesome and even gave us some knowledge about the plants and the beautiful desert around as. But best of all tearing it up in the desert on the side by sides was so much fun. My teenager even smiled!!!

This ATV tour was everything. If you are expecting one of those flat, follow the leader desert rides, this is not that. We actually got to go off roading on real trails which made it so much more fun and exciting. Our bachelorette crew had the best time. We were laughing the entire ride and the views were absolutely gorgeous. It felt adventurous but still super safe and well run. Such a fun group activity and definitely one of our favorite parts of the weekend.
