Bangkok’s hidden canals with Fluke: history, lizards and a lock!

We were a group of 4 on this morning canal tour and it was a real highlight of our trip. We arrived early and were warmly welcomed, given a bottle of water and a seat right on the canal, where we watched monitor lizards swimming and squabbling on the far bank while we waited. Great entertainment before the tour even started! Our guide Fluke was excellent. As we cruised the quiet back canals by longtail boat, he explained the history of Thonburi and its khlongs, how this side of the river was once the heart of Bangkok, and why it earned the name “Venice of the East”. We passed through the Artist’s Village, saw everyday canal-side life, and got a great view of the giant golden Big Buddha at Wat Paknam. A unique moment was going through a lock to get from the canals out onto the Chao Phraya River, as the water levels are different. For our tour, it finished on the riverbank opposite Wat Arun, handy for the Grand Palace and Wat Pho. A relaxed, fascinating way to see a side of Bangkok , I am glad we did it.

Our guide Ploy was wonderful! She took us to many spots and we were able to try a large variety of dishes. Ploy made sure we all had enough to eat and were full by the end of the tour. She was also very knowledgeable about Thai culture and history and was a great conversationalist.

Good tour

Pam was very kind and knowledgeable. Give yourself plenty of time to get to the Pier by Bolt. Take baht for the market to shop. Due to flooding, the tour started on the other side of the river. We were delayed due to traffic but the company was so kind to book us on the next tour. Thank you for working with us! Go early to explore the temple near the pier.

Great historical tour with amazing guide, Ken

It was a really nice tour to learn more about the history of Thailand and learn the meaning behind these wonderful historical artifacts in person. Ken was an amazing guide to have - he was really knowledgeable about Thai history and very enthusiastic to explain the temples, answer questions in detail, and also help to avoid hazards. I highly recommend the tour if you are interested in learning more about Thailand and history. One recommendation - please carry some umbrellas in the monsoon season, or maybe the guide doing the tour could have some umbrellas for the tourists to borrow and return at the end of the trip.

Chinatown Culinary Delight

Our tour guide, Kwan (?) was really great! She walked us around to many different vendors in Chinatown, explaining the history and specialty dishes of each vendor. We tried many varieties of dishes, including soups, skewered meats, dumplings, rice dishes, noodle dishes, and fruits. She took us on a culinary adventure through the back streets and obscure little restaurant shops of Chinatown. Any suggestions we wanted to try, she obliged and bought us tastings. We tried many different unusual desserts as well. The sticky mango rice was a definite dessert highlight! Overall, a wonderful tour, exceptional value, and highly recommended; we would never have tried so many of these delights if it hadn’t have been for this tour and our wonderful guide! Wonderful dinner cruise with delicious food and fun entertainment

Boarding was a breeze, lots of shelter from the rain. It was a very upbeat welcoming vibe, food was already prepared in the buffet which was open immediately, there was a huge selection and plenty of food to go around, the food was delicious. Live singing and music and some cultural performances that moved around were really exciting to watch. The views cruising down the river were stunning.

It was so fast getting...

It was so fast getting through the immigration and to my transportation. I didn’t have to worry about getting lost in the airport after traveling for over 24 hours and being too exhausted to think. I just followed gentleman that met me at the gate. I highly recommend this. I’ve never seen this service offered another countries. My next travels I’m going to research if it’s available.

Wow ! From the time you get on this cruise until the time it gets back to the dock it’s such a fantastic experience The staff onboard are amazing. The service and speed at they operate at is incredible The cruise goes past some spectacular buildings and historic sites. The entertainment is also amazing. You will definitely find it difficult to find a better Cruise at the level that this one is at. 2 days later and I am still flicking back to my photo album checking out the photos from the cruise night. THE BEST decision I have ever made travelling.

THE BEST decision I have ever made travelling! I had 2 large pieces of hold luggage and wanted to get to my hotel quickly & efficiently. I was met at the aircraft by the staff member, Bank who was a very polite and professional young man. He procured a trolley to take my hand luggage from the plane to the Immigration point. We walked past the regular immigration queue which was quite large to the Fast Track lane. I was first in line and was cleared immediately through immigration (who were very friendly & welcoming). Bank then escorted me to the baggage carousel and loaded my 2 large bags onto the trolley and we walked through Customs. He then took me out to the waiting car where the driver loaded my luggage and took me to my hotel. A fantastic experience, I highly recommend using the I Asia Fast Track experience through Viator.
