Very informative about history and lifestyle of residents. Our guide, Joe (Jo?), was very accommodating, pointing out certain houses, temples, as well as slowing down on the water for us to take photos. He led us to tastings of treats in the floating market and even gave instructions on how to eat mango sticky rice (yes, it matters). We would go again if we came back to Bangkok!

Additional Info

  • Confirmation will be received at time of booking
  • Not wheelchair accessible
  • Near public transportation
  • Infants must sit on laps
  • Not recommended for travelers with back problems
  • Most travelers can participate
  • The most convenient way to reach the meeting point, and avoid Bangkok’s often congested road traffic, is by taking the MRT (metro) to Sanam Chai Station. From there, take the 'Museum Siam' exit. The meeting point is just a short 5-minute walk from the station.
  • Please note that during the tour, we may experience a wait at one of the water locks, which regulate canal levels. These operate on no fixed schedule and are beyond our control.
  • Bangkok’s traffic can be heavily congested. As our tours run on a group basis, we can wait a maximum of 10 minutes after the scheduled meeting time. After this grace period, the guide will begin the tour. If you cannot make it on time, please let us know before the tour starts. If possible, we’ll do our best to reschedule you for the next available time slot or day, though a rescheduling fee will apply. No refund will be provided in case of late arrival.
  • Cancellations made at least 24 hours before the tour start time are eligible for a full refund. For cancellations made less than 24 hours in advance or in case of no-show, no refund will be issued.
  • Our tours operate rain or shine, as tropical rain showers in Thailand usually don’t last long. If it rains heavily, we try to seek shelter and will continue as soon as the weather improves. During the rainy season, it’s a good idea to bring a raincoat or poncho. Please note cancellations due to weather are not eligible for a refund.
  • Not recommended for travelers with mobility issues, as boarding and disembarking the boat may be difficult due to the lack of stairs at the piers.
  • This tour/activity will have a maximum of 300 travelers

You can cancel up to 24 hours in advance of the experience for a full refund.

Good tour

Anna_W, Oct 2026
Pam was very kind and knowledgeable. Give yourself plenty of time to get to the Pier by Bolt. Take baht for the market to shop. Due to flooding, the tour started on the other side of the river. We were delayed due to traffic but the company was so kind to book us on the next tour. Thank you for working with us! Go early to explore the temple near the pier.

Response from Host, Oct 2026

Thank you so much for your thoughtful review! We’re delighted to hear that Pam was kind and knowledgeable and that you enjoyed the experience. We’re also very glad our team could accommodate you on the next tour after the traffic delay and the change in starting point. Thank you for sharing your helpful tips for future travelers as well. We truly appreciate your understanding and flexibility, and thank you for choosing WanderSiam!

Entertaining guide

Bill_B, Oct 2026
Joe was a very entertaining and knowledgeable guide with a great sense of humour. Only part that could be improved on is the amount of time spent at the artist house, really needed longer to visit all that was on offer.

Response from Host, Oct 2026

Thank you so much for your thoughtful review! We’re very happy to hear that Joe made the tour enjoyable with his knowledge, entertaining style, and great sense of humor. We also really appreciate your feedback about the time spent at the Artist House. Amazing tour with Johan

Samantha_C, Oct 2026
Our canal boat tour with Johan was the highlight of our trip to Thailand! We happened to be the only guests that day, so we had him all to ourselves for a private tour. He was funny, engaging, and incredibly knowledgeable, and we learned so much about the canals and local life along the way. He even bought us snacks to feed the fish. Excellent service from start to finish. I highly recommend Johan, and I'd love to have him as my guide again when I come back to Thailan

Response from Host, Oct 2026

Thank you so much for your wonderful review! We’re thrilled to hear that the canal boat tour with Johan became a highlight of your trip to Thailand. It’s lovely to know that his humor, knowledge, and personal attention made the experience so memorable, and that the little extra touches like feeding the fish made the day even more special. We’ll be sure to share your kind words with Johan. Thank you for recommending WanderSiam, and we’d be delighted to welcome you back for another tour in Thailand someday!

Wouldn't bother

Adam_M, Sep 2026
They changed the pickup point and didn't tell us until 10 mins after it started. We had to make our own way there via a ferry and 20 minute walk through random streets. The canals are dirty, even the tour guide used an umbrella for protection!

Response from Host, Sep 2026

Dear Adam Murgatroyd, We sincerely apologize for the confusion and inconvenience caused by the pickup point change and the delayed communication. We understand how frustrating it must have been to make your own way to the meeting point, especially after the tour had already started. We also appreciate your honest feedback about the canal experience. We will review what happened with our team so we can improve our communication and make the experience smoother for future guests. Thank you for sharing your feedback with us.

Mixed experience

Aisling_C, Sep 2026
Communication with the guide was unclear. Due to weather we went a different route to usual and there was a misunderstanding about the break/stop off so we misssd going to Artists House. Also guide gathered group under a different shelter than the one sent in the photographs so slightly unclear. Interesting tour of the back canals and got a great view of the Big Buddha and floating markets. Not very much information provided by the guide as we went along.

Lynn_S, Sep 2026
It's a good way to see the waterways of Thonburi. Mix of old and new on the canals. Art House was interesting but there wasn't much time to see what's in the shops.

Response from Host, Sep 2026

Thank you for your kind review. We’re glad to hear that you enjoyed exploring the waterways of Thonburi and seeing the mix of old and new along the canals. We also appreciate your feedback about the limited time at the Art House and will keep it in mind for future improvements. We hope to welcome you again soon.

Great Tour! Great Guide!

Meka_R, Sep 2026
Tour provided clear pictures and instructions for the meeting point. Still a bit challenging to find but the photos were helpful. Ken was exceptional. His knowledge of the sites and general information about Thailand was very insightful. He provided us directions back to the train station and even took the extra step of walking us there. Great souvenirs and wonderful local community. Warm and welcoming in general. I would highly recommend.

A Should do for any Bangkok visitor

Mike_L, Sep 2026
Longtail Canal Tour of Old Bangkok……………… 🚤🇹🇭 Sometimes getting to the tour is part of the adventure! Our meetup point was at Wat Kalayanamit Pier. We easily found our Thai WanderSiam guide, Joseph, who I suspect had spent a great deal of time in Australia based on his accent. 😄 After getting a complimentary cold bottle of water, we walked less than a minute to the dock where our traditional longtail boat was waiting. 🚤 Exploring Bangkok’s Canals For the first 90 minutes, we traveled through various canals, or khlongs, seeing a completely different side of Bangkok. Our guide explained that some of these neighborhoods look remarkably similar to how they did decades ago, before Bangkok’s rapid modernization and the construction of skyscrapers transformed much of the city. Many of the old houses sit on wooden supports, and some are clearly deteriorating. Our guide explained that over time, buildings that can no longer be safely maintained may eventually give way to newer construction using modern concrete pilings. It was fascinating to see this older side of Bangkok sitting so close to the huge, modern city that has grown around it. 🙏 Temples, Shrines & the Big Buddha Along the way we passed numerous temples (wats) and shrines and had plenty of opportunities for photos. One of the highlights was seeing the enormous golden seated Buddha at Wat Paknam Phasi Charoen, which towers above the surrounding neighborhood. We also saw a smaller reclining Buddha during our journey. The longtail boat itself was comfortable, and we lucked out with a somewhat overcast day, so it wasn't nearly as hot as it could have been under the Bangkok sun. ☁️ 🎨 Artist’s House & Bang Luang Canal Our final stop was at the canal community along Khlong Bang Luang, home to the historic Baan Silapin, also known as the Artist’s House. One unexpected little activity was feeding the fish. Our guide supplied the fish food, which was a nice touch and made for another fun moment along the canal. At close to the two-hour mark, we arrived back at the temple where we had started. 💰 Another positive was that they were proactive about contacting us when the meeting point changed. When you're traveling in a city you're not completely familiar with, little things like that can make a big difference. For the price, I thought this was a very good way to spend a couple of hours and experience a side of Bangkok that many visitors never see. Instead of skyscrapers, rooftop bars, shopping malls and modern Bangkok, you're cruising past wooden houses, temples, small communities and scenes that remind you just how much history still exists along Bangkok's canals. Definitely recommended if you're looking for something a little different to do in Bangkok.

Response from Host, Sep 2026

Thank you so much for your detailed review. We’re very happy to hear that you enjoyed exploring Bangkok’s canals and learning about the local communities and history. We’re also glad that our guide and the updated meeting point information were helpful. We truly appreciate your recommendation and hope to welcome you again in Bangkok.

Definitely bring a long sleeve hoodie style fishing shirt. It can get hot and there’s no shade. Fun trip though.

Thank you very much for your review and for sharing your helpful advice with future travelers. We’re glad to hear that you had a fun and enjoyable trip. mamieholt01, Aug 2026
The tour guide used up 10 minutes of our tour talking. Additionally, the boat came back 10 minutes early. So 20 minutes of touring we didn’t get when we paid for 2 hours. I feel cheated.

Response from Host, Sep 2026

We sincerely apologize that the tour did not meet your expectations. We’re sorry to hear that you felt you missed part of the experience you had paid for. We truly appreciate you bringing this to our attention, and we will review what happened with our guide and boat team to better understand the situation. Joschua_E, Aug 2026
We had lots of fun on the canal tour. It is just super interesting to see how people live alongside the canal, to observe the patches of nature appearing between the buildings and to look at the beautiful temples and sculptures throughout the tour. There is lots of "wildlife" to spot during the boat ride, including fish, birds, turtles and water monitor lizards. We even saw a baboon-like monkey walking on the rim of an abandoned house's backyard. According to the guide, this individual supposedly fled its owner one day and has since been roaming through the suburbs of Bangkok. The stop at the little art market next to the canal was also very enjoyable. Our guide Joe was entertaining, infectious with his positive mood, and shared lots of knowledge about the canals. Throughout the whole journey, we felt very safe on the boat, even though the weather was quite windy that day. Highly recommend the tour, it was well worth its price.

Response from Host, Aug 2026

Thank you so much for taking the time to share such a detailed and wonderful review! We’re absolutely delighted to hear that you had so much fun on the canal tour and enjoyed discovering the unique way of life along Bangkok’s canals, as well as the temples, sculptures, nature, and wildlife along the way. We’re especially happy to know that Joe made your experience even more enjoyable with his entertaining personality, positive energy, and knowledge about the canals. We’ll be sure to share your kind words with him — we’re sure he’ll be thrilled to hear them! It’s also wonderful to hear that you felt safe and comfortable throughout the boat ride despite the windy weather. We truly appreciate your recommendation and are so pleased that you felt the experience was well worth it. Thank you once again for choosing to explore Bangkok with us. We hope to have the pleasure of welcoming you back for another memorable adventure in Thailand!

Cool longtail boat ride

Andrea_S, Aug 2026
Half day activity, very cool. You might get a little wet 😅. Activity consists of a canal ride, a break at a cool market by the canal for food and souvenirs, and the ride back by boat to the pier.

Response from Host, Aug 2026

That sounds like a wonderful experience! Thank you for sharing the details with us. We’re really looking forward to enjoying the canal ride, exploring the charming market, and soaking up the atmosphere along the way. A little splash of water will only make the adventure more memorable!

A great intro to Bangkok's historical waterways

Johanna_C, Aug 2026
A really enjoyable, well-organized tour with beautiful scenery, interesting facts, and a highly competent tour guide. The only drawback was not *quite* enough time at the mid-tour market, but it was certainly enough to intrigue me and make me want to come back!

Response from Host, Aug 2026

Thank you so much for your wonderful review! We’re delighted to hear that you enjoyed the tour, the beautiful scenery, and the interesting insights shared by our guide. We truly appreciate your kind words about our organization and guide. We also appreciate your feedback regarding the time at the market. We’re glad it left you curious and inspired to come back for another visit! We would be absolutely delighted to welcome you again and hope to make your next experience even more memorable.

Not the best tour

Rebecca_L, Aug 2026
Clumsy tour. Transfers not worth it - pick up too early and then you have to sit around for 45 mins to wait for tour to start and return transfer late and nowhere near where we were dropped initially. Couldn’t wait so took a cab back to hotel at additional expense. Guide not in the correct location as per tour instructions - opposite jetty… and very hard to understand. Scenery the only interesting thing, but you could do this on your own without a guided tour. Market accessible by land by the way…not expressly floating and isolated.

Response from Host, Aug 2026

Thank you for taking the time to share your detailed feedback. We sincerely apologize that the tour did not meet your expectations, particularly regarding the transfer arrangements, waiting time, meeting point, and return transportation. We’re also sorry to hear about the difficulties you experienced with the guide and that you had to arrange and pay for a taxi back to your hotel. We understand how frustrating and inconvenient this must have been. Your comments are very valuable to us, and we will review these points with our team to improve the organization and communication of the tour. We’re glad that you enjoyed the scenery, and we truly appreciate your feedback as it helps us provide a better experience for our future guests.

Very friendly guide, knowledgeable about the areas we visited. She even took a picture of us in the boat. We highly recommend this tour. 2 hours was just the right amount of time for us.

Response from Host, Aug 2026

Thank you so much for your lovely review! We’re delighted to hear that you enjoyed the tour and found your guide friendly and knowledgeable. We’re also happy she could capture a special moment for you with a photo on the boat. It’s wonderful to know that the two-hour tour was just the right amount of time for you. Thank you for your recommendation, and we hope to welcome you again in the future!

Great culture experience.

Crystal_G, Aug 2026
The canal tour was very interesting. Took us to places we would have not seen like the floating markets. We even saw a giant wild monitor. The boats are very loud though and the shops are quite touristy. Otherwise great trip.

Response from Host, Aug 2026

Thank you so much for your wonderful review! We are thrilled to hear that you found the canal tour so interesting and enjoyed discovering unique places like the floating markets, as well as spotting a giant wild monitor lizard. We truly value your support and hope to welcome you back again soon!

Shaheem_K, Aug 2026
The tour was just average. The canal locks were unfortunately unavoidable as they are a part of the canal system. The stopover at the artist house was just okay and kind of boring. Seeing people feed the catfish, sights of monitor lizards and the big Buddha this tour is just average unless you want to really see the waterways of Bangkok!

Response from Host, Aug 2026

Thank you for sharing your feedback with us! We're glad you got to experience the waterways, monitor lizards, and the Big Buddha, though we are sorry to hear that the overall tour only met an average expectation for you. We truly value all guest comments as they help us enhance our future itineraries. Thank you for choosing us, and we hope to provide you with a more memorable experience next time.

Good short tour of Bangkok

Neo was a great guide. This is a really good short tour to see the city from the river. If you want to see much more or more time off the boat, go for the longer ones

Response from Host, Aug 2026

Thank you for the fantastic review and helpful recommendation! We’re thrilled to hear that Neo took great care of you and that you enjoyed exploring the city from the water. You made a great point—this short tour is perfect for a quick scenic highlight, while our longer options are ideal for guests wanting more time to explore off the boat! A must do on BKK, to see the canals and life on the other side of the river. And lizards. Bring sunscreen. The stop at the market needn't be so long.

Response from Host, Aug 2026

Thank you for the great review and practical tip for fellow travelers! We’re thrilled you enjoyed exploring the canals, catching a glimpse of local life along the river, and spotting some monitor lizards along the way! We also appreciate your constructive note regarding the market stop—we'll definitely share this feedback with our team to help optimize the itinerary timing.
