This bus was extremely underwhelming. We felt like we were on a city bus just picking up people. The only scenic thing we saw was the Colosseum. All the stops were far from everything and when we plugged our earphones in . We could hear anything. Both adaptors were broke. Never had this experience on Big Bus. Will definitely stick with them next time!!

The first bus had the copertina pulled off and we did have nice views. The second bus had the copertina on and the views were limited. I understood that the sun was strong and it was a very big heat, but I think the most important was the views and the people from the bus could have put something on their heads

Be prepared for stops to take time. It gets hot in June! The headsets weren’t very loud but I was able to understand them.
Anne_R, Jun 2026
Bus was fine but due to the traffic in Rome we spent so much time at a standstill we ended up getting off and just walking. The queues were ridiculous too and I think this is as there’s not enough buses.
Adrian_B, May 2026
We had to change busses 2 times during our trip, and weren’t told why. There were up to 6 people standing in the upstairs aisle at times, which was dangerous. Very dissatisfying
Response from Host, May 2026
Dear Customer,
Regret is expressed that the experience did not meet expectations and that the journey was affected by multiple bus changes and overcrowding onboard.
In some cases, operational changes may unfortunately become necessary due to traffic conditions, technical checks, or service adjustments during the day, although clearer communication from staff should always be provided whenever possible.
Regarding the number of passengers onboard, safety remains a priority for I Love Rome, and the observations about people standing on the upper deck have been carefully noted and will be shared internally for further review, as this situation appears unusual.
Please send an email to openbus@graylinerome.it with additional details about the date, time, so that we can better understand what happened and investigate the situation further.
Kind regards,
I Love Rome Hop On Hop Off City Tour

Some stops are very difficult to find. We walked a very long distance to find one to get on. It would have helped if maps were available other than on the bus.
Response from Host, May 2026
Dear Guest,
We are sorry to hear that you had difficulty locating some of the stops during your visit to Rome. We understand how this can be inconvenient, especially when walking longer distances than expected.
Your suggestion regarding the availability of clearer maps outside the bus is very helpful and will be shared with our team for consideration as part of ongoing improvements to the guest experience.
Kind regards,
I Love Rome Hop On Hop Off City Tour

I would recommend to do this on your first day of your trip. It will allow you to see an overview of the whole city.
Response from Host, May 2026
Dear Guest,
It is wonderful to hear that you would recommend the tour as a great way to get an overview of Rome at the beginning of a trip. It is indeed a convenient way to discover the main highlights of the city and help plan further visits.
Thank you for sharing your feedback.
Kind regards,

Today we waited for almost an hour at the first stop to get on with our prepaid tickets (2 buses came and went but were all full) and the guy said we would get on the next bus that was going to arrive in 30 more min. . We were only in Rome for the day and the bus takes 2 hours to go through all the stops. We ended up having to book with another bus group just to get on a bus. I wasted a lot of money for tickets we couldn’t use. Don’t buy in advance! Get them when you get there…there are several bus companies to pick from.
Response from Host, May 2026
Dear Guest,
We are sorry to hear about the long waiting time at the first stop and that you were unable to board immediately despite your prepaid tickets. In a busy city such as Rome, especially during peak hours, it can unfortunately happen that several buses reach full capacity, leading to additional waiting times.
We understand how frustrating this must have been, particularly with limited time in the city, and we regret that this affected your experience.
If you would like us to investigate the matter further, please feel free to contact us at openbus@graylinerome.it with more details of your booking, so we can look into what happened.
Kind regards,
I Love Rome Hop On Hop Off City Tour

It's slow going, traffic is horrendous. It was so hot and stuck in traffic sitting in sun not moving for quite awhile. Headsets were not all working.
Response from Host, May 2026
Dear Guest,
Thank you for your feedback.
We are sorry that your experience was affected by heavy traffic and hot conditions during your tour of Rome. As a very busy capital city, Rome often experiences significant traffic congestion, especially during peak hours and high season, which can unfortunately lead to delays and longer waiting times in traffic.
We are also sorry to hear that some of the headsets were not working properly. Our staff are always available on board to assist with any technical issues during the tour.
Your comments have been shared with our team to help improve the service.
Kind regards,
I Love Rome Hop On Hop Off City Tour

Very long lines at stop 1 terminal. No one gave us the head phones to hear commentary , we had to get them from the driver after we saw other passengers with them.
Response from Host, May 2026
Dear Guest,
It is sorry to hear about the long waiting time at Stop 1 and the inconvenience experienced at the start of your tour. In a busy city such as Rome, especially in high season, queues can unfortunately become longer than usual, but staff are present to assist and manage boarding as efficiently as possible.
Regarding the audio commentary, headphones should always be provided upon boarding, and it is regrettable that this did not happen in your case. It is good to know that the driver was able to supply them once the issue was noticed, but this should not have required you to ask.
Feedback like yours is very helpful in improving both organization and guest assistance, and it will be shared with the team to help prevent similar situations in the future.
Best regards,

The advert was entitled "Hop on Hop off". Immediately on arrival I was told it was NOT. We had to stay on the bus.
The audio guide was odd. The narrator, apparently, was a Roman Cat! Yes. Hilarious, but true. He delivered a coy , rather camp stream of words, some of which was relevant, and much of which was not . He peppered the talk with some terrible jokes , the best of which was : "How did Napoleon eat his chicken? He "TORE THE BONES APART".
I was annoyed that this cost me forty quid. Hop on /off should be as advertised. I felt cheated
Response from Host, May 2026
Dear Peter,
It is very sorry to hear that the experience did not meet your expectations. Our Hop On Hop Off service is normally intended to give guests the freedom to get on and off at the designated stops, so it is understandable that this situation caused disappointment and frustration. At times, temporary restrictions due to traffic conditions, events, or city regulations can affect the regular service, but clearer communication onboard would certainly have been helpful.
Your comments about the audio guide are also appreciated. The narration was designed to combine information with a more light-hearted and entertaining style, although it is understood that this may not match everyone’s taste.
Feedback like yours is very important and helps us continue improving the experience for all visitors discovering Rome.

The bus is good, clean, drive safe. The stops are a little sepárate of the attractions. Very good for the price. All other company stop are the same.
Response from Host, May 2026
Dear Carlos,
It is appreciated that the buses were found clean, safe, and offering good value for the price. Feedback regarding the distance between some stops and the attractions is also understood, although many stop locations in Rome are regulated by the city and shared by the different sightseeing companies.
Best regards,
I Love Rome Hop On Hop Off City Tour

A good way to orientate to Rome and see many of the attractions. The audio guide was interesting and informative and pleasant to listen to.
Response from Host, May 2026
Dear Simon,
It is wonderful to know that the tour was a good way to get oriented in Rome and to discover many of the city’s attractions. Great feedback about the audio guide is especially appreciated, and it is pleasing to hear that it was found both informative and enjoyable to listen to.

ARUN_V, May 2026
Generally, a waste of money. Colosseum stop is suspended. Other prominent tourist sites, I thought, were a hike away. We ended up using taxi or metro to get around.
Response from Host, May 2026
Dear Guest,
we are sorry to read that the service did not meet your expectations.
Unfortunately, the Colosseum stop can occasionally be suspended due to decisions made by local authorities, public events, traffic restrictions, or road closures beyond our control. In these situations, alternative nearby stops are always indicated by our staff onboard.
Regarding the distance from some attractions, Rome’s historic center includes several pedestrian areas and traffic limitations, which sometimes prevent buses from stopping directly in front of certain monuments. However, the route is designed to connect the main highlights of the city as closely as permitted.
Your feedback is appreciated and will be shared internally to help improve the overall experience for future guests.
Kind regards,
I Love Rome Hop On Hop Off City Tour

This was a great way to get an overview of Rome! We chose the 24 hour ticket and it was perfect for getting us around the city
Dale_C, May 2026
Difficult to find bus locations and the recorded commentary was either behind or ahead of the site areas probably due to traffic.
Lisa_B, May 2026
Convenient schedule, buses arrive every 15 minutes, and stops at all the major attractions. It’s crowded on the weekends and in the middle of the day. We loved being close to a stop.
Pamela_S, May 2026
What a wonderful positive experience being on the top deck of the bus and seeing so much of Rome! It was perfect, and the headset helped to explain everything!!!
Jim_H, May 2026
Audio on bus is fabulous! Drivers are expert. It was a great way to get around Rome. We are doing it again today
Lauren_L, May 2026
Great way to see the city and side street's. Would have given 5 stars .. except for the boarding disorganization and ensuring those who were there first boarded first.
Janice_D, May 2026
We were not allowed on at our first stop even though there were seats. Waited a long time for next bus and saw other bus companies 2-3 times. Refused more people on that bus but let us on and there were extra seats again. Waited at each stop for 5-10 minutes. Made the experience very boring and disappointing.
Laurie_L, Apr 2026
It is extremely hard to find the pick up points. We asked several people along the way. It was very frustrating
Kin_T, Apr 2026
Great way to get introduced to any city. We have used this in every city we have been all over the world
Kevin_M, Apr 2026
This was a great way to get oriented on our arrival day in Rome, especially since we arrived at hotel at 11:00 am & couldn't check-in until 3:00 pm.
Sara_P, Apr 2026
Don't prebook this tour with Viatour as the tickets were almost impossible to access. When I contacted Viatour they didn't help as they said it was up to the Grey Line to help us but didn't provide us with any contact dettails. The bus stops were also difficult to find.
Geralyn_H, Apr 2026
The English version of the tour was excellent. Often the announcing doesn’t keep up with the views but we found it was great. The guides that met us at stop #6 were really friendly and helpful.
Richard_R, Apr 2026
The communication was not great. Some of the stops were changed due to traffic patterns, but this was not communicated prior to arriving at the scheduled stop. Also, we received 3 different explanations from representatives about where the temporary stop was located.
Also, on several occasions, the bus stopped for 10-15 minutes at a stop before proceeding. This limited our ability to get off and spend time at some of the stops.
As a way to see the city and get your bearings for future activities, this bus was okay, but not great due to the issues described.
Danielle_A, Apr 2026
DO NOT use this company!! This was a waste of time. First off, information regarding the tour was very vague, even in the App. The only directions were to find a stop- did not provide information as to where the stops were other than near stated landmarks. The advertisement also states buses come frequently, however, that was not the case. After finally locating a stop, we waited 35 minutes for a bus to come. When it finally did, we were told that it was full and needed to wait for the next one. We then waited an additional 15 minutes for the next bus. We were only able to use it for one stop essentially. We found the staff to be extremely rude and particular about those they would let on ahead of others. Use another company if possible- all the others had buses coming and going more frequently. Absolute waste of a day!
elvira_H, Apr 2026
Excellent tour of Rome very informative.
Well organized- Affordable price
I highly recommend this company
Ginger_C, Apr 2026
This experience was very unorganized. The buses were difficult to find. They were overbooked. Wait lines for the buses were long and crowded. No guarantee to get on a bus that you are waiting on for long periods of time. I do not recommend this activity.
