Misrepresentation

Anonymous, Sept 2024
Misrepresented Had difficulty finding our pickup person at the port. Finally found him and were the 5 and 6 person on the 8 person bus. No guide on board initially. Picked up another 2 passengers on the street, along with the guide which took about 1/2 hour. All other passengers were going to Pompei also. No mention in Description of this fact. The van was too small for 8 adults. Crammed in rear seat... No room for legs. Tour guide Lisette was rude and seemed annoyed that we were not continuing to Pompei. Things got worse when we told her we were to be returned to port, per specific agreement and email confirmation. She kept insisting that Viator screwed up. Thought we would be going into several cathedrals/chapels/ buildings but went into none. Basically drove around Naples Bay and had two photo ops, went back into center and coffee shop and WC, then had 1/2 hours free time without a guide. Guide finally arranged to get us a separate driver to the port. The driver brought 2 additional people to get on the trip to Pompeii. Appreciated that finally agreement specified in our booking email was carried out, but certainly not happily by the tour guide. Recommend you update the description to indicate yours is a combo tour with 2 different groups of passengers, and that tour guide is picked up after passengers. Need to provide a different van or limit group size to 6 people max. Very disappointing. Thank goodness the tour was not that expensive, or that would have added insult to injury.

Just an OK tour!

Debbie_R, Jun 2024
We were met at our cruise ship and easily found our guide. We did realize we would be transported to another spot and carry on in a different vehicle. Then we went to a different area of the port and picked up more people. From there we started into and eventually stopped and picked up a guide and more people. These people only spoke Spanish so our tour ended up being in two languages. I find this annoying. What we saw of the city was just ok. On the positive side we were suppose to be dropped off at a shopping area but our guide offered to drop us back at the port which we appreciated.

Very rushed

Nancy_H, Apr 2024
The city view from the highest point was the best part of the tour. We never saw the inside of the cathedral, only saw it from a distance. We had a very brief and rushed stop at a pastry/expresso shop, with no explanation of how to purchase anything. The whole tour was cut short since we spent a lot of time trying to find our group with a non-English speaking man, and then driving through town to meet our tour guide. Since we were the only 2 folks not going to Pompeii we were combined with the Pompeii group and never got any real personal attention or adequate time. Everything for our part of the tour was rush, rush, rush.

small group tour

veravdch47, Oct 2019
Short and unpleasant. driver was constantly on the phone speaking in his language and didn't explain for 30 plus minutes why we didn't have a tour guide. Finally she showed up, spoke for 5 minutes, sent us to the church, divided group for 2 different destinations. It's it.

Naples like a local

Fun walking tour of Naples. Only six of us. Guide awesome. Lots of time for exploration. Two hours of super experience.

Steve R, Nov 2017
This tour got off to a slow start as we waited quite some time for the last group of participants. This might not have been their fault, we have found that sometimes Viator gives different starting times for the same tour. Once started, we visited the Duomo, which was interesting. Then we drove through the city to an overlook, which has a nice view of the city and harbor. Finally to Plebiscite Square, where we could appreciate the buildings. Short tour, gave us an appreciation of Naples, and the guide was fine. However, I'd recommend you look at other available tours.

This tour provided a great insight on Naples city. We got to see a lot of the sights in a short amount of time that allowed for extra exploring opportunities.

The tour is self was fine. However, I believe the pick-up and drop-off were to be at the cruise terminal. The vendor left me about a half-mile from the terminal and gave me instructions for how to walk back alone.

Interesting tour which showed the front and back of Naples City.

Vincenzo B, Aug 2016
The guide made the most out of what turned out to be a very wet morning with severe thunder storms. We thought the drive along the coast line and city could have included more sights during the short time allocated, however we did enjoy our short stops which included a visit to the Cathedral which is an absolute stand-out and a must see when visiting Naples. The tour ends in a central location not far from the port which is ideal should you wish to walk around the historical area of Naples.

Deborah M, Jun 2016
This tour exceeded our expectations as we thought most of the 2 hours would be just driving around with a few photo stops. What a nice surprise to discover we had a guided tour of a beautiful Cathedral and a small walking tour at the end where our friendly, knowledgeable guide pointed out other places of interest and told us in detail how to return to our ship which was very close by. We also had a beautiful photo stop at a lookout you would have a hard time to find or even know existed. Definitely worth it as we had an afternoon tour in the afternoon through the cruiseline and got back to the ship in plenty of time to eat lunch and relax before the other tour.

Glenn R, Jun 2016
It was an ok tour. Not too exciting...mainly visited one church and had a few photo ops. Our guide was fluent in English and Spanish..we were more Spanish than English speakers. Some were booked for a longer tour some were left in a square not far from the ship. We had a pizza and walked back to the port. Not sure it was a great value for our money.

Thomas S, Oct 2015
Our guide was informative, friendly, and knowledgeable. I would have given 5 stars if the tour was completely in English, though. The guide spent a lot of time talking with the Spanish-speaking tourists they kept asking him questions and he was only responding, but I felt like I was missing out.

Leonard C, Oct 2014
The Viator person found us at the pier and then our little group of 12 or so exited the harbor area. Nice to have a smaller van and smaller group. Driver was very good. I didn't think our guide was. He was disappointing and un-professional in my judgment. He didn't comment on the city or on streets as we drove through. He only shared information when asked specific questions and that was only audible to those by him. He constantly interjected his own personal opinions, e.g. about immigrants coming to Italy. Also in the Cathedral he thoroughly trashed devotional practices, especially surrounding San Gennaro, and Catholicism in general. There was no balance, no context, little historical explanation about how the devotion to San Gennaro arose and grew. I found this not only totally subjective, but unprofessional for a so-called professional guide. He certainly can have his own beliefs and express this, but he should be explaining the site with more balance and sensitivity. Disappointing. But on the whole we still enjoyed the tour since it was the kind of short overview of Naples we wanted. I just wish we had a different guide, one more like those that others raved about online.

Carol O, Jun 2014
It was really disappointing, Why? because in the 2 short hours we saw just 3 things (1) The Cathedral, which was interesting,(2) A view just above the town, disappointing, and then back through the heavy traffic see a large square? Then finally dropped off at a shopping centre to look at the architecture ,which we did in 5 minutes, we did not want to stay and shop, but instead of being taken back to the cruise ship as we requested we were dumped in a VERY busy street across from the port and told we would be fine to cross this very busy road to get back. In between leaving us at the shopping centre the guide had picked up the next bunch of people so she seemed eager to get to her next venue.

William_J, Dec 2013
In two and one-half hours we saw quite a few highlights of Naples. The cost was approximately 60% less than the cruise ship cast for the similar tour. We highly recommend this tour. It was stress free.

The young guide was extremely knowledgeable and friendly and his English was excellent. He made the tour extremely interesting without labouring us with irrelevant information. He was able to answer all of our questions without hesitation.

Guide met us at the pier as expected and there were only 8 guests in the group. Guide made the tour interesting and both he and the driver had a great sense of humour and local knowledge.

Kaye_B, Jul 2013
Being picked up at the port was great. The driver was very good. Our guide was very informative and personable. He showed us some great places and views of Naples. When the tour was over, we chose to stay in town to eat a pizza made in Naples. Our guide pointed out one of his favorite places. We were served a small basket of bread (2.50 Euros) and a tomato and cheese plate (approximately 8 Euros) and we split a pizza we had ordered that cost less than 7 Euros. The house wine was good and cost 3.50 Euros a glass. I would recommend this place but be aware that you may get a couple of extra foods that you did not order but have to pay for. This is NOT Viator or the guides fault and we enjoyed the meal so much we did not have a problem paying for the extra food. If your are visiting Naples this tour is a great wayto spend a couple of hours. was

Renato, Jun 2013
First we follow our reservation information that our tour guise was going to be outside waiting but that was not the case, we had a group of 6 people waiting and asking everbody, and finnaly someone told us to go at the parking lot and the driver was waiting there, and soon he staring drive our tour guy come from not here and he took us to Naples catedral and drove around and stop for 1 picture, for me was really a poorly sightseeing.

Michael M, May 2013
This tour was also a value for the money. It was basically a short tour of the city in the morning. (We had an afternoon excursion with the cruise line for the afternoon.) The escort was waiting for us at the dock with our name clearly displayed on large placard... easy to find her. Our guide took us to the usual sites, and then to a really nice pastry shop where I had the local specialty. I heard other people negotiating for a taxi tour at the cruise port and it was something like 150 Euros! This tour was almost the same, and costs less.

The provided tour was very informative seeing a beautiful church/museum, panoramic view of the city along with a general city tour. I would recommend this tour to anyone that wants to have a general tour and time to explore on your own.

Edward S, Nov 2011
The first stop on the tour was great. The church was amazing. The guide knew a lot about the church. the rest of the time the guide was giving directions to the driver. If you ask a question about something you saw he didn't have much of an answer. I would not take this tour. Maybe with a better guide and driver who knew the route it would be better

Everything was as planned, the pick up driver was on time and very cortious, the van was very clean and comfortable, the tour guide (Maria) was very informative and answered all of our questions, she was very charming and able to adapt the tour to our time, we were never rushed. I would strongly recommend this tour opperator to my friends and will use them again on my next excursion.

Raymond Peter B, Jul 2011
Enjoyed our small tour of Naples. Guide was excellent, helpful, informative, caring (My wife has some walking difficulties) and amusing too! Pick-up from the ship was efficient but starting trip was held up because other people who booked did not show up and had not informed anyone! Delivery back to cruise ship was also very good. Would try Viator again for cruise destination excursions. Much cheaper than the ships' excursions.
