Great views, minimal tour

The tour is really just a transfer service that takes you a little closer to the summit than you can otherwise get. The audio guide provided isn’t that engaging. The views are incredible and the volcano itself is definitely worth the trip. Don't expect much 'added value' from the tour operator, besides a good taxi ride. We also had our departure time changed at very late notice which kind of threw off our other plans for the day.

Total Waste of Money: Glorified Bus Ride with Zero Tour

Do not waste your money on this "tour." We paid over $150 expecting an informative, guided experience of Mount Vesuvius, but what we got was literally just an expensive, silent and HOT bus transfer. The chaos started less than 18 hours before departure when they suddenly changed our pick-up time from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM. They tried to blame it on a local strike, but when they sent us the link to the strike notice, it showed the strike had been scheduled and known about for over a month. Once on the bus, the "tour guide" offered zero value. He spent the entire journey sitting at the front chatting with the driver and constantly readjusting his wig —not a single word of commentary, no historical context, no brochures, no water, and no snacks were provided. We were simply dropped off at the mountain, told to be back in two hours, and then driven back to Naples. We could have taken a private taxi there and back for what we paid this company. Completely unimpressed by the terrible organization, non-existent communication, and total lack of customer support. Avoid this company at all costs.

Easy transfer from Naples directly to the entrance, with the entry ticket included. Communication from inStazione was excellent, and the audioguide details and ticket were provided at the pickup point. We were then walked to the bus, and the driver was great, driving carefully and safely to Vesuvius and back to Naples. The two hours provided at Vesuvius was ample time to reach the furthest point, while still allowing time for refreshments and souvenirs. There is no guide provided at Vesuvius, but this really isn’t necessary giving you the freedom to do the hike at your own pace making the experience more enjoyable. A very well-organised, hassle-free experience from start to finish. Highly recommended!

This was the highlight of our cruise. While it was steep to get up to the top (I’m 66 having cancer treatments) we took many breaks as did others but it was worth it. Also there are 2 places at the top for drinks and souvenirs which we didn’t expect. Going down much easier. Highly recommend and very affordable.

The trip to Vesuvius was quite nice. However, we only had 1,5 hours to climb the crater and come back, which was quite short - we expected at least 2 hours. At the point I made a reservation for this trip, its duration was listed as 4-5 hours, but in the end we were back in Napoli at 12:30 (started past 9 AM). Also, the audioguide wasn't included in the price, we had to pay when downloading it, and it didn't work anyway because of the bad reception on Vesuvius.

Beautiful view. The driver was very safe. It was a winding road and many buses had to pass each other. I am glad I did not try to drive. I do wish I had a half hour more as we had to rush down and I would have liked a bit more time up at the top. I thought it said we had two hours at the top but it was only an hour and a half.

Good communication from the provider. It was relatively easy to get to and find the offices and we were escorted to our bus (which was late due to traffic). Vesuvius is 100% worth visiting and the bus took us to the highest drop off point for the climb. I took it very steadily and took lots of photos and there was plenty of time (we were given 2 hours). As everyone will tell you, no toilet facilities on the route to the top - but there are 3 gift shops! It does get booked up in advance so you need to check the weather forecast and then get online quickly when a sunny day is forecast.

Great way to travel up Mount Vesuvius. Great views of the crater and city of Naples and coastline. The audio requires you to have an online cell phone instead of some other type of audio device. It would have cost me $12 to go online so I opted out. Not sure it would have added any real value. Two important things to be aware of. You must be relatively mobile as it’s a continuous uphill walk for about 1.3 miles that leaves most folks winded. Going down is also a bit of a challenge as it involves loose gravel and rock that could cause the inattentive a fall. Now for the most important warning. THE ARE NO PUBLIC BATHROOMS OF ANY SORT unless you include going behind the dumpster. They have several small tourist huts at the bottom, midway, and top that sell beer, wine, and coffee, but do so at your own peril given my highlighted warning!

Vesuvius crater experience is terrific and I am glad we went. The hike was much easier than I expected. The bus gets you very close to the top with only ~200 mm elevation climb left. The path is sandy and mostly even. Good shoes help. The day was cloudy so the view was not great but the crater itself is imposing. The tour was bare bones. Transport by a bus from Naples was provided plus a very brief and not super informative audioguide on your own phone. No tour guide talk at all. They give you time to climb and descend and that is all.
