We start our visit at Monte Brasil, enjoying a panoramic view over the city of Angra do Heroísmo at the Pico das Cruzinhas viewpoint. We continue along the east coast towards Fajã do Ficher, with a panoramic view over the Cabras Islets. A little further we will go to Salga Bay and Mós Bay, which were places with a big importance in the history of Terceira. The next stop is the village of São Sebastião, which has one of the oldest churches on the island. After this stop we go towards the city of Praia da Vitória, where we will stop at the Serra do Facho viewpoint, that offers a privileged view over the city. Finally, we go up to the Serra do Cume viewpoint, where we can see the famous ‘Manta de Retalhos’, the largest caldera in the Azores.

The route starts at Alto das Covas and goes down through Rua da Sé towards the Cathedral of the Azores, the Sé Cathedral (entrance included). We continue towards the Angrense Theatre, and our next visit is to the Palácio dos Capitães-Generais, exploring this building full of history (entrance included). We will make a stop at the pastry shop “O Forno”, where you can taste a traditional local sweet alongside a cup of coffee or tea. Dare to try out the best we have for an afternoon. First, we go to heaven, driving by car to Serra da Ribeirinha. An amazing view of the city, the Monte Brasil volcano, and Vila de São Mateus. On most days, you may even be surprised to see the island of São Jorge and the island of Pico with its imposing mountain. A few steps and you have a view of Ilhéu das Cabras islet , Fradinhos islet, and the entire south coast, lots of cows, and green fields with typical dry-stone walls. Descended and began the path to the depths of the earth on this visit to Algar do Carvão. An ancient dormant volcano, in this Algar visitors can descend to a depth of around 330 feet (100 meters). A few more minutes on the road and we visit the fumaroles. After this climb, time to admire the view from the Pico das Caldeirinhas and Pico Vermelho volcanic caldera. The last part of the trail passes along a dry stone wall in an area dominated by Azorean heather, an endemic floral specie. After lunch, time to get amazed with Algar do Carvão, a volcanic chimney that is, without doubt, the best known volcanic cave in the Azores. Driving to Angra do Heroísmo, we still have time for a short stop to visit Quinta dos Açores..
