What are people saying about Playa del Carmen

I had a good experience...
I had a good experience with this tour.
It took about an hour boat ride to get to Contoy Island from the meeting point (which is about 20 minutes away from downtown Cancun but the pick up was included and on time) and it's a beautiful unspoiled island with white sand and shallow clean water.
We spent about 3 hours there: one hour to relax, one hour for a barbecue lunch and another hour for an optional tour of the island (I was the only one in the group to go for it though) which was nice.
Then there was some snorkeling which I skipped because I thought the sea wasn't calm enough and I didn't want to struggle as I had never done snorkeling before.
We then headed to Mujeres Island, which was very very crowded and I can't say I enjoyed it, but we were there for only an hour which was long enough to still get a taste of the island.
The tour leads were very friendly and entertained us with music and dances on the boat. Many drinks were available.
The only thing I didn't like very much is that once we got back to the meeting point in Cancun (at about 4pm), we had to wait almost 45 minutes before we could get on the vehicle to be dropped off at the hotel, as the tour guides were asking everyone to write reviews on the company's app using their phone. I was really tired at that point, and to be honest I just wanted to go back to the hotel instead of waiting for 45 minutes for everyone to write their reviews. I asked to write the reviews later on (I always prefer taking a few days before writing a review, just to let the experience sink in without the emotion of the moment) and I was told I had to it there, I felt a bit forced and I thought it was unnecessary.
Still a good experience though, which I recommend.

Fabio was an amazing...
Fabio was an amazing guide and we loved how knowledgeable he is. We had the cenotes to ourselves which was absolutely magical! We were able to take our time in each and have opportunities to take photos throughout. The meal afterwards was delicious and it was a highlight of our trip. Just book with Fabio and have an amazing time!

Excellent tour of Tulum and area
Great experience and well coordinated with excellent staff. Very interesting tour of Mayan city of Tulum. With very informative guide. Beautiful and easy swim through Cenote cave system. Great lunch then enjoyable snorkel with lots of sea turtles. Fantastic guides and driver.

Ancient ruins and refreshing cenoté swim
Although a long day of approximately 16 hours, the experience and tour guide were well worth it! Comfortable bus with water, soft drinks and beer included at each stop. Knowledgeable tour guide Alejandro that took the time to give historical answers to all our questions. Tulum and Coba were Mayan ruins in two very different locations on windy coast and inner forest. The ability to walk up the steps of Coba was a-mazing! Local linch and Mayan blessing was a lovely addition for the day. The cenoté was very relaxing and refreshing in the beauty of being totally underground and only our tour at the location. The stop in Playa del Carmen was a bit too peopley for me but was a short stop and the sorbet was yummy. Highly recommend the tour and to bring supper snacks in your day bag.

Great experience
This was a very full day, but it was worth the early start to get a look at Chichen Itza and take photos without a hundred tourists walking in front. The lunch was great, and the small group format was also good, as we got to know each other a bit while eating. The cenote was very cold but for the most part we were the only ones there so it was like we had it to ourselves. Ek Balam was very much a highlight as you can actually climb the steps of the major structures and get a better sense of how people lived. Our guide was very informative, and our driver was very efficient. The tour operator arranged a time for pick up the day before the tour, and they were actually a few minutes early to pick me up. Total trip was about 11 hours. I'm very glad I booked this tour.

Really glad we did this...
Really glad we did this tour! It felt like it was off the tourist-heavy path, and I'm not sure we would have found the places our guide, Diego, took us to without the tour. Diego was fantastic a guide - he brought a white corn tamale with him for the group to try, and it was one of the best things we ate on the whole trip. We had excellent quesadillas, tacos, aguas frescas, and fresh fruit from a market. Highly recommend!

My husband and I had...
My husband and I had traveled to Tulum and Coba 15 years ago without a tour guide and kids but this time, since we wanted our kids to have the experience we went with the Viator tour. It was one of the only tours that combined the two locations plus a cenote and was affordable. Our tour guide was Herlan. He was an amazing teacher and storyteller and made the experience even better than our first trip there because we learned so much! Tulum was beautiful, Coba was really interesting and the kids liked being able to bike to the sites. The cenote was an added bonus. My daughter loved jumping in from the 10-15 foot above. Thank your Herlan for making this a very special and memorable trip!

A worthwhile adventure
I'll start this off by saying this was 100% worth the cost and time. Our driver Jose and guide Garri were punctual, knowledgable, funny and accommodating.
I CAN NOT stress enough how great it was to be at these sites before the crowds. As we were leaving Chichen Itza it was considerably busier so I'm thankful we were able to enjoy the place early with far less people.
Finding a tour that skips Valladolid and instead visited Ek Balam was a 10/10 decision for us. Chichen Itza was amazing but something truly spectacular about being able to climb the ruins at Ek Balam and see so much of the carvings still in such good condition.
The Cenote Chichikan was also wonderful and not very busy. Buffet was what you'd expect so we had no complaints.
The day is LONG so be sure to bring water and snacks. Also be sure to have cash for things like souvenirs, tips, food.
There were additional costs to the tour which weren't part of the upfront cost but it was made VERY clear we'd need to pay for those either the day before or on-site.
Additional costs were...
- Life Jacket & Lockers at the Cenote ($100MXN)
- Goverment Tax at Chichen Itza ($571MAN)
- Entry to Ek Balam ($481MXN)
This ended up to be about $90CAD additional per person.
Only thing we would say is to just avoid the tequila tasting. They offer this at the end of the day and give a presentation about how its only available there and how exclusive it is. The tequila is 100% mass produced and relabeled as just for them...walk through any tourist area in Playa or Cancun and you'll see the same bottles with different labels. Its a common tourist trap/scam so just dont both purchasing any.
Our guides also told us to not buy anything while at Chichen Itza and to wait until the "official" shopping spot but everything there was the same as you'd seen in other tourist areas. They obviously get a commission so avoid overpaying for those items and instead just tip them well after your trip.

The research paid off and...
The research paid off and this was by far the best price for the experience we received. Lots of things to see and do. It felt a bit rushed at each place. The buffet was all you can eat so long as you can eat your fill in about a 20 minute period…including standing in the line. It almost felt too much included in the trip. But our guide Lalo was fantastic and he gave us the history and background of the places we were visiting to help bring our experience into a better context. We thoroughly enjoyed our trip.

Excellent job, especially Daniel Gallegos!!!
Everything was really great, the guides were very knowledgeable, drivers were very professional and the sites were impressive and the food amazing!!
Please make sure that Gaby, Lisandro (guides), both Ivan (drivers) they get our thanks for a very well done job!!
Special thanks for Daniel Gallegos, one of the drivers from Majestic tours that did an amazing job, very professional in a difficult situation. On our way back to our resort there was a huge accident that stopped the transit on the highway. Daniel did everything in his power to take us to our resort as soon as possible, talking to colleagues and finding out which was the fastest and safest way back to our resort. We would definitely recommend this tour with these guides, they went above and beyond!

Los Colorados
My 18 year old and I went on this trip and we were both had so much fun! Bus ride is long but the seats are cushioned, reclining and comfy for sleeping. Honestly everything went so smoothly. Pink lake was so pretty and boat ride was the best part. Good lunch but the sandwich they gave us for the bus was seriously nasty. Make sure you packs some snacks, water and have you hotel pack you a sandwhich.
Our bus driver and guide were so nice. Don't forget tip for the boat driver, bus driver and tour guide. They deserve it!
GREAT EXCURSION!

Well Run and Enjoyable Trip!
We had a great time on this trip. We appreciated the balance of time to explore Tulum yourself, and the time spent with guide for background and history. The trip was well organized and well run.
It would have been nice to know about the lockers and changing facilities at the Cenote in advance of the trip, as well as the lunch option on site for purchase. We would likely not have gotten the plus package with the small, over-priced boxed sandwich had we known there would be a local cuisine option on site
