Outstanding Francois (Our Guide)
Our guide Francois (Paquito) was exceptional. It felt we were walking with a longtime friend. It was a great experience. Francois is very knowledgeable of the area. Showed us many details that could be ignored otherwise. Very friendly and extremely passionate describing the area. He made us feel we want to return to Paris and Mont Matre specifically.

Lovely experience touring Montmartre!
Montmartre is absolutely beautiful. Highly recommend to anyone. Because the tour is on foot and the area is quite hilly, good footwear is a must. Our guide, Sasha, was quite knowledgeable about the history of the place, famous artists who called it home, and fun facts about the Moulin Rouge. Gorgeous views of the city from the top of the hill in front of the Basilica!

Matt was a great tour guide. He really knew his history but did not bog us down with minutia. To the point yet still informative and entertaining.

very informative and...
very informative and interesting stories about the area. Maria was a great guide. She is very knowledgable and very considerate. And the small group setting gave us a lot of time to ask questions, which Maria always had great answers!

People Also Ask
What is Sacré-Coeur Basilica, and where is it located in Paris?
Sacré-Coeur Basilica is one of Paris’ most recognizable (and most-visited) religious landmarks. Located in the 18th arrondissement in the north of the city, in Paris’ bohemian (and hilly) Montmartre neighborhood, it can be seen from far and wide. And in turn, it offers some of the best panoramic views of Paris.
What is the history behind the construction of Sacré-Coeur Basilica?
Although Sacré-Coeur feels like it’s been part of Paris forever, it’s a relatively new addition to the city. Built in 1875 following the devastation of the Franco-Prussian War, the basilica was completed in 1914 and finally consecrated in 1919, after the end of World War I.
How do I get to Sacré-Coeur Basilica using public transportation?
To get to Sacré-Coeur Basilica via public transportation, take Métro line 2 to Anvers station, located at the base of Montmartre hill. While you can climb up to the basilica, the more straightforward route is to take the funicular to the top with a basic Métro ticket.
Are there any admission fees for entering Sacré-Coeur Basilica?
No, Sacré-Coeur is free for all to visit, and you do not need to book tickets to head inside (though you may need to wait in line, depending on how crowded it is). However, you do need to pay to access its dome, which offers pristine 360° views of Paris.
Is there a dress code or any guidelines for visitors at Sacré-Coeur Basilica?
Yes, there is a dress code at Sacré-Coeur. As it’s an active church with at least four services daily, visitors are asked to dress respectfully, with their knees and shoulders covered. Additionally, visitors should remain silent, avoid talking on the phone, and refrain from taking photos in the nave to respect worshipers.
Is there a best time of day to visit Sacré-Coeur Basilica to avoid crowds?
Yes. Sacré-Coeur is open daily from early morning until late evening. To avoid the worst crowds, it’s recommended to visit early in the day. Weekends, holidays, and the summer months are also likely to be very crowded, and sunset can be an especially busy time to visit.
