Best Tour during NYC trip!
Very informative, Tour guide Jorge was funny. Loved hopping off and on. Was able to get some amazing pictures. Wished we were able to make a stop in Harlem, but were unable to, due to renovations of the Apollo theater. Also extended time at Coney Island was needed, an hour wasn’t enough with the walking distance and wait time of restaurants. An hour and 45 minutes would be great. However, it was the best tour during my time in NYC.

Excellent tour and guide...very informative.
Be prepared for a lot of walking on this one, but you will learn what it was LIKE in Harlem during the Renaissance, and even before and after. Our tour guide was AMAZING...she was an older lady, but could out walk us all! It does go over the 3 hours listed (at least ours did), but it was so interesting. You'll come away wanting to learn more on your own as well.

Great day in Harlem
This is an AMAZING tour! Larry taught us the history as well as the present of Harlem’s culture. He was interesting and engaging; making sure to capture what we each were hoping to learn from this adventure. It was a perfect afternoon and the most captivating tour I’ve ever taken. Head to Harlem and take the tour. You won’t be disappointed! Tell him Special K sent you! ;)

Beautiful And Diverse Harlem
The history of Harlem is diverse, having housed many cultures. It has more to offer than some may realize, and our guide, Carolyn, a native Harlemite, knows some hidden histories about this area. She was friendly and easy to talk with. I am a New Yorker who has lived here for many years, and I thought my sister from Ohio would enjoy the tour. We both had a great time!

Sugar Hill...IYKYK
Mr. George was a complete delight. His recollection of the history of Harlem was what I was hoping for. I hope they include more info about the Harlem Renaissance in future tours.

For those who think they know Manhatten
Lary is the perfect guide to show Harlem. He was born Harlem and knows the place and its people. Visited the places that were not chosen and all in very pleasant, kind and knowledgeable manner. Wonderful emotional hours with a great story teller

Just do it 👍
A very very good tour with Neal Schumaker. He grew up and lives in Harlem and knows so many people whom he greeted as we walked along. His mom even waved down to us from her apartment in a project building. 🙂 Neal is very knowledgeable and interesting. His love of Harlem, social justice, and even architecture and music are evident in all that he says about this historical area. Highly recommended. Just do it. 👍

When to visit

Harlem is a must-visit for fans of African-American culture.
The area is a neighborhood that’s open to the public, so you don’t need Harlem tickets to visit.
Wear comfortable shoes and expect to do quite a lot of walking, as Harlem covers a relatively large section of Upper Manhattan.
Curb ramps are commonplace, making much of the area accessible to wheelchair users.
