This was a walking tour (12,000 steps for sure) but we'll worth it. Ayame gave great directions on the meeting spot and got us all on the train to Nara with ease. Ayame was personable, knowledgeable and answered all our questions as we walked. Saw 3 temples/shrines and of course the deer. She made it clear on how to approach the deer. At the start, I would avoid feeding the deer since they are very food motivated but if you show them your empty hands, they wander off. Save the snacks until you are further up the hill (less deers and calmer) to see how beautiful they are. Ayame got us through all left and was able to leave time to shop and get goshen stamps. One thing to note is have some cash (about $1000 yen for offerings and temple admission at the great Buddha temple (not included). Also our transportation from Kyoto was paid just one way. This was a great way to add a tour if you were going on to other stops like Tokyo or Osaka. Ayame went above and beyond after the tour to guide us back to the train station after the tour ended complete with a rest stop and navigating the station. There is not a meal stop so bring snacks and drink but be sure it is secure (also anything else in your pockets - the deer try to grab stuff) Be calm and appreciate their space! My husband and I did the full day tour with Den and loved seeing all the sites in Nara Park and Uji. Den was lovely, kind and knowledgeable. She answered all of our questions and was very patient with us. The temples, the shrine, feeding the deer, the delicious traditional Japanese lunch and the matcha tea ceremony were highlights of our time in Japan. I do have some recommendations to make the tour smoother: the coordinates on the app lead us to the back of the building. Just Google the Tully coffee house location for a less confusing map. Den was very good about giving an overview of our day, however, the map she used was not to scale and Nara Park is quite large and the crowds made it hard to navigate at times. We missed our meeting point and were lost for about an hour. The phone number provided for support did not work, but we were able to quickly communicate with the company via text messages on the app. It would have helped if we had specific pre-arranged ranged meeting times and locations so when we did get separated, we knew where next to be. Also, when we were walking next to Den, we got great information, but it was otherwise hard to hear her in the crowded streets. On the bus, she gave great explanations. Overall, we would recommend this full day tour!
