Top Moldova Private Sightseeing Tours

Transnistria is one of Europe’s most unusual destinations, yet even many visitors never discover its remarkable collection of Soviet monumental art. Departing from Chisinau, this private tour brings together more than 30 mosaics and 10 monumental bas-reliefs hidden across Bender, Ghisca, Tiraspol, Blizhniy Khutor and Sucleia. Created mainly between the 1960s and 1980s, these artworks once decorated factories, schools, cultural centres, sports facilities, bus stops and public buildings. While many similar works disappeared elsewhere after 1991, dozens have survived here almost unchanged. No museums, queues or entrance tickets – just a journey through rarely visited cities, industrial districts and villages, exploring forgotten Soviet art with a local guide.

Unlike a typical tour, this is a private and fully customizable experience — no fixed script, no mandatory stops, and no formal lectures. Transnistria is not just history from a textbook. It’s part of the history we grew up with. We learned about the Soviet period in school, heard stories from our parents and grandparents, and still see its influence in everyday life today. Your local guide brings that personal connection to the tour through real stories, casual conversations, jokes, and honest perspectives — including what people who actually lived through that period remember and think. Less like a history tour, more like spending a day with a local who grew up with the history you're discovering.

Just 12 miles (20 kilometers) south of Moldova’s capital Chișinău lies Milestii Mici, a vast wine cellar said to accommodate about 2 million bottles. It is populated by the Gagauz, a Turkish-speaking population largely Russified and historically close to the Turks of Anatolia. They thus speak a Turkish dialect (but also Russian) and they are Orthodox Christians (and not Muslims). Historically, the Turkish-speaking Christians of Bulgaria, the "Gök-oğuz" or Gagauz, were established here in 1812, among the Moldovans, when the Russian Empire annexed Bessarabia.

The remarkable Mileștii Mici Winery holds the Guinness World Record for the largest wine collection.
