Be careful booking this tour! We planned our entire holiday to ensure we could dedicate one full day to Kairouan and El Jem and it never happened. We booked several days in advance. I reached out via Viator the night before to confirm the pickup location and time. No response. I reached out via WhatsApp and they confirmed the booking. The next day came and we waited over an hour for the guide to arrive. No one ever came. We called, messaged via WhatsApp, and had Viator try to contact them as well. We were unable to reach them. Over an hour later, they let us know that the driver had an accident on the way and that is why they were unable to reach us. They apologized for the no-show and offered to let us do the tour for free the following day. We understood the gravity of the accident and appreciated the generous offer. We had to re-organize our holiday plans and I had to re-schedule work and meetings in order to go to El Jem the following day, but we were willing to make these changes. We trusted that there had been a serious unforeseen circumstance. The next day came, and yet again they never arrived. They never answered again and we never got to go to El Jem. We would have been fine taking the refund, but instead they offered to change the day of the tour and then did not follow through. I even took a day off work. I cannot understand why they would make this offer only to waste our time again. I cannot recommend this tour at all. There is no way to know if they will come or not. Book it at your own risk.

Amazing day trip to Khairoun and El Jem!

I was a little nervous about booking a full-day trip with our kids in July with the heat (ages 11 and 5), but I needn’t have worried, it turned out to be an absolutely fantastic day! We were promptly picked up from our hotel by our driver, Shabab, and met our fantastic tour guide, Faycel, en route. The vehicle was spotless, comfortably air-conditioned, and spacious with 8 seats, perfect for a relaxing journey. Faycel was incredibly knowledgeable, friendly, and accommodating and was happy to go at our pace, stop for questions or photo opportunities. The visits to the Mausoleum and Great Mosque were fascinating and well worth seeing, but the true standout was El Jem. Just wow! The amphitheatre is absolutely spectacular and the best part no crowds, so we could really soak up the atmosphere and explore freely. The kids had a fantastic time, and so did we. I honestly can’t think of a single downside. Highly recommend this trip to anyone considering it, especially families. A memorable, hassle-free day out!

great tour of kairouan and el jem

this was a great tour! at first all the tour companies required a minimum of 2 people to go, but my sister didn't want to take the tour, so eventually I found a listing online for this tour and I was allowed to sign up with just one person. I expected other people on the tour with us, but I was the only one. we had a driver and a guide (Hoda) and me. First stop was Kairouan, where we saw a large mausoleum, and the mosque. probably about a 1.5-2 hr drive from Tunis (they picked me up at my hotel) then we headed east to El Jem, where there's a large roman amphitheatre that's in really good condition. They were preparing the amphitheatre for a July festival of live performances. then, because i was interested in the history, Hoda took me to a place they don't normally stop at. It was a museum of mosaics, many of them taken from the floors of the large former mansions of El Jem. simply stunning, and much better than the mosaic museum I saw in istanbul After that we went and had a very nice lunch in a nice hotel, all included. I ended up taking a nap on the drive back to tunis, so it went pretty quickly. I really recommend this tour, Hoda was a great guide, and very well-informed and personable.

A step into the past

Boutheina was my guide for the second day in a row and she greeted me like a friend! I always enjoy getting out of the city for a day to see the countryside and this was a very enjoyable day. The El Jem runis are so well preserved and I was excited to see such a historical monument which brings history to the present day
