The cave and castle were absolutely worthwhile to visit. This was a half day trip from Trieste that gave us a glimpse of Slovenia, and I definitely want to go back. Ernie was a great tour guide. He was very knowledgeable and entertaining. Misha, our driver also did an excellent job. If you are looking for a fun adventure then I highly recommend seeing Postojna Cave and Predjama Castle.
*A few things to keep in mind…
1) This tour includes a lot of stairs and a decent amount of walking.
2) The temperature in the cave is at a constant 10 degrees C. A jacket is not a bad idea even in summer (but we did fine without one, too).
3) Remember to bring your passport with you since you will be crossing an international border.
4) Eat a good breakfast or bring a snack. There is not much time between activities to stop and eat.

Amazing experience at both the castle and cave. Castle is even more impressive in person with lots on exhibit and overall grandeur. Cave has an amazing variety of formations with many great photo ops. Highly recommended!

The best exploration tour we had in 16 days of traveling the Mediterranean! Castles, caverns, and guide! We were 4 older adults traveling from Trieste. The castle is so much more than castle - it is also built into a cave and hillside. Stunning and historical. The cavern is beyond compare. Immense, gorgeous, the most incredible stalactites and stalagmites. Very well run with a train inside the cavern to go down and up and about a 1.5 mile walk inside. Beautiful in every way. Our guide was knowledgable about all of the area around us, pleasant, well spoken, intelligent, and excellent in every way. We could not have enjoyed it all more!

Absolutely great adventure. So many different structures to look at . This is a fairly aggressive walk so make sure you have comfortable shoes and a light jacket. It’s chilly in the cave (55 F).

The cave network is immense and we get to see only a fraction of it, but what we do see in an overwhelming display of massive structures.
There are other caves, but this is truly spectacular and truly worth a visit.

Amazing day. Interesting Castle and absolutely incredible cave. I have been in many caves but this was the best. I have never seen anything like these. Well organized with a train going back 2 miles. Then you walk through the caves for about 1 hour. Lots of uphill and down hill walking. Great tour. Great driver, Ernest did a good job of telling us about the country and many fun facts. Thank you

The caves are amazing. I have been to many, and these are the best experience. The castle cave is also a good historical landmark if you don’t like stairs. It’s very interesting tour as long as you like walking up stairs. The tour guide Jimmy was great, with good stories and kept the tour organized. Definitely worth the effort! But expect a bit of effort walking up paved paths and stairs, but the views motivate well.

This was amazing. It’s hard to believe how they built that castle so many years ago! The caves were mesmerizing!! Ohhs & ahhs around every corner! This is definitely a must see!!
Disclaimer: this is not a tour for anyone who has physical disabilities. It’s a lot of walking up & down stairs in the castle. Also a lot of walking in the cave on wet cement.

Definitely a great tour with interesting history in the castle. The caves are immense and the walkway, though a little wet, was easy to move along. Lighting provided a spectacular view of the formations.

Vast doesn't begin to describe the scope of Postjana Cave. Start with a 15 minute train ride beginning in the cave. Then a 1 mile walk through huge spaces alternating with low ceilings. The pathway is generally smooth with decent traction although it is always damp and in some spots wet. There are significant inclines and declines. A 15 minute train ride back to the starting point concludes the cave portion.
A 10 minute car ride takes you to Predjama Castle, uniquely situated at the entrance to a cavern. Very picturesque views. The interior is a warren of rooms, halls, and stairs with no rhyme nor reason. Many interesting artifacts are distributed throughout.
Ernie, our guide, was personable, informative, helpful and an absolute pleasure as well as being a good driver.
Neither site is suitable for anyone with limited mobility or balance concerns. The cave has slopes that are often dimly lit and the castle has uneven stairs and walkways along with narrow passages that are hard to navigate.

My wife and I really enjoyed this trip, which involved a drive from Trieste to the sites in Slovenia. Our driver was a very engaging college student on his summer job before his classes began. The tours themselves were very quick. We could have spent a lot more time at both sites before our tour drivers whisked us away.
Special thanks to the tour leader who lent us both sweaters when he decided we would be too cold in the caves. The caves are chilly, and the gesture was appreciated.

Great tour guide Earnie. Really nice, informative young man. Every tour should have a guide like him. The cave is a hike but you have the option to just ride the train. The caves are fantastic to see. I would highly recommend this to everyone. A highlight of our trip. The castle was OK but is very famous and built into a cave. I have been to castles all over Europe so it wasn’t a huge thing for me to see.

My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed the beauty of the caves. The train was perfect. It gave us more of an opportunity to explore. Even after we got off and walked the pathway was very safe and never seemed too steep even though we are in our 70s and early 80s, most memorable and beautiful experiences ever
