Come with me to the Kasbah

Our tour guide was a lovely young lady that wanted to stick to her script. She spoke english well, but was easily frazzled with our private tour of 13. It was a Jewish tour and we spent a long time sitting on the bus trying to listen to what she was saying about Morocco. There was no microphone, so people in the back could not hear. Although she lost the crowd and we wanted to spend more time in the Medina, she continued on. We went to see the light house which was a waste of time as bathroom waits were long. Instead of changing something else to make up the time, we all were shuffled into the bus so that whole stop was a waste of precious time. We stated many times we wanted to spend time shopping in the Kasbah, but she rushed us through, got flustered if anyone didn't keep up and went to the cemetary and synagogue which was way down hilly streets. Being an older crowd, we were not able to climb back up to the Kasba, so we missed our opportunity to shop there. That was devastating. We should have spent time (we requested one hour), at the Kasbah and then proceed to the synagogue and cemetery. Other people that did not plan a tour ahead as we did, just organized a taxi tour. It as cheaper and they accomplished what I wish we had. There was poor leadership and in the end, as people were frustrated and trying to organize where they wanted to go, we all just got on the bus and went back to the ship. I couldn't sleep last night as I was responsible for that tour and many were very disappointed. I have done many viator tours, and the guide has some control of the crowd. With no microphone, people were talking, and arguing in the end of who stays and how to arrange pick ups and drop offs. A good seasoned guide, would have resolved that situation and taken more control. She became overwhelmed . I will never forget missing out on my one chance to spend time at the Kasbah although seeing the ONE synagogue and cemetery was memorable. There are many more and we all would have liked our 5 hours to be off the bus and more visits to where we really wanted to go. Joodi Pollock

Our guide Mohamed El Ouardi was great. He was very knowledgeable and took us to two synagogues and helped us to understand the relationship between the Jewish community and Islamic community in Morocco.
