This was a genuinely enjoyable experience from start to finish. The food was excellent, well prepared, and thoughtfully chosen, and it never felt rushed. Our guide, Jim, was friendly, knowledgeable, and struck a good balance between information and conversation. He clearly knew the area and added context that made the experience feel considered rather than generic. Well organised and very good value overall.

Jim is incredible! This tour is excellent - informative and delicious. Covered a lot of ground on foot gaining great insight into the food history and culture of Shanghai. Hustling with locals for dumplings was fun with everyone involved getting a good giggle. Tea ceremony was an absolute highlight. Thanks Jim and TJ.

A great experience. Learned a lot. Great food and delightful knowledgeable guides, Jamie and Ash, who were super ambassadors for the youth of modern China.

Breakfast of Champions

Ryan_A, Feb 2026
Jim was a great guide! Food was amazing. Good mix of popular and local spots. Not sure if it was part of the usual stops but he took me to the wet market as well and it made for good photos. It helped that I was the only one who signed up that day and we took our time. We also took a detour to check out an EV showroom! Top notch food tour with important bits of cultural and historical info.

Memorable tour with Jim

Paul_K, Jan 2026
I was travelling alone and had one day layover in Shanghai. Despite being hesitant about being the only person on the tour I booked and glad that I did. Jim was amazing. His history knowledge added so much value to the experience and he took me to places I would not have been confident to do travelling by myself or with others.

Excellent food and a great guide

Fantastic start to the day! Our guide, Jim, was extremely knowledgeable, professional, and personable. I went with my two retired parents and it was a great leisure walk (filled with LOTS of food) and a great way to really get to see the city outside of all of the tourist spots. Jim was more than happy to adjust the schedule and offerings to what we were looking for.

Hidden Gems and Great Company

Daniel_R, Nov 2025
I did the Shanghai food tour with Jim and it was awesome. He’s super friendly and knows a ton about the city’s history. The quick museum stop in the French Concession was a cool surprise, and every restaurant he took us to was a hidden gem with amazing food. Highly recommend this tour if you want to see the real Shanghai.

A really interesting experience, getting to see a different side to Shanghai that as a tourist it might not be as easy to encounter. The variety of dishes we tried was huge and so many of them were really delicious. Jade was a great guide, full of useful information and tips and she selected the best food for us to try. It really is a lot of food, make sure you are hungry!

Informative and Delicious

Corinne_J, Aug 2025
The tour is an intimate look into a few traditional Shanghai neighborhoods, a visit to a small history museum, and a taste of some delicious, long-established staples of the area. My tour guide Yu was sweet, helpful, and knowledgeable. I definitely recommend adding this experience to your journey!

Nice time with Jade

Sarah_M, Apr 2025
Jade took me around this morning telling me various bits of information about all things food, French Concession, Shanghai, China and more! It was nice to try some Shsnghainese foods as they are different to what I’d already eaten. Jade’s English was fantastic and it was a lovely morning spent wandering the streets of Shanghai! Thank you Jade and I’m sorry I completely forgot to give you your tip! You deserved it!

Definitely recommend it

Daniella_C, Feb 2025
This was one of the most delicious, filling and interesting food tours I’ve ever taken (and I’ve taken them in 20+ cities). Jim was an excellent guide, very knowledgeable not only about all the food we tasted but also about Shanghai’s history as well. I definitely recommend this tour!

Great Food, Great Guide!

Janetta_F, Feb 2025
The tour is a great way to see a more local side of Shanghai. The places chosen are family owned or local. The food is delicious, I especially enjoyed the tea tasting. The guide is very friendly with great English and very happy to answer questions.

Wonderful food tour in Shanghai

Hang_N, Jan 2025
I booked the Shanghai Breakfast Walking Tour of the Former French Concession, and it was a wonderful experience! My tour guide, Jim, was incredibly friendly, knowledgeable, and caring. He took the time to show me around the city and share fascinating insights about Shanghai’s history and culture. One of the highlights of the tour was trying all the delicious traditional Chinese food. Jim introduced me to so many amazing dishes that I wouldn’t have discovered on my own. We also visited a local fruit market, enjoyed the Chinese tea session, and got a glimpse into daily life in China. I thoroughly enjoyed every moment of this trip and would highly recommend it to anyone visiting China. The Shanghai food tour is a must-try experience—you won’t want to miss the mouthwatering food and the chance to explore this vibrant city!

Don’t hesitate. Book now!

We were a family of 4 including 2 boys (teenager and a tween). The breakfast tour with Jim was informative, educational, enlightening and DELICIOUS! He was extremely patient, food was divine, coffee was excellent and the experience was like walking through Shanghai with an old friend. One downside was that it was raining hence we were unable to walk off the awesome food we had. Was sad that the tour ended - we would have gladly had a full day eating tour if we could! Excellent tour and highly recommend!

You need to book that tour!

Theresa_R, Nov 2024
The tour was excellent! I was the only one who attended the tour on that day, so I had a private walk with Jim. He was funny yet informative about local food and the city of Shanghai in general. We had some very funny conversations and he never lacked of an answer to my questions. So it's not only a walking and eating tour, but more a tour through a quarter of Shanghai through the eyes of a local. Recommend absolutely!

Great tour

Christopher_B, Nov 2024
Great Tour, visiting many spots ypu wouldn't find alone. Jim has been a great Tour guide with a lot of background knowledge of China, Shanghai and the food. Clean recommendation!

Great food and sightseeing tour

Virginia_O, Oct 2024
I really loved the tour. Is is combined with a bit of sightseeing. We walked through different neighbourhoods/streets and a lovely park that I would not have found on my own. That was really great. The food was also delicious. I really recommend this tour.

Great tour and food

Desiree_B, Oct 2024
We had a great tour with Jim. He was so kind to let us join his tour even though we showed up on the wrong day. All the food was really good and it was interesting to learn about culture and the city from a native Shanghainese.

Must do experience if you’re looking for local food

Andrew_P, Oct 2024
An amazing experience. We got to eat so much food during the tour. Every spot we stopped at was unique and there’s no way we would’ve found them without the Jim and Helen. The highlight for us was having tea in the back of a small tea shop.

Great tour! Excellent

Christopher_F, Aug 2024
Fascinating walking tour of small food-specific restaurants along with interesting facts and commentary about Shanghai.

Brilliant, authentic, Tasty

Ak_S, Jul 2024
This breakfast walking tour was the highlight of our trip. Walking through Shanghai and seeing the sites, parks, people, all while eating authentic food was a very unique experience. Jim is so knowledgeable about Shanghai and the food places he took us to were very authentic and mostly locals. I would highly recommend this tour for anyone!

Much more than a food tour, highly recommend!

Balazs_A, Jun 2024
Jim was a perfect guide, sharing many information and stories about Shanghai and China history. The tour was much much more than a food tour, we received a complete experience having an insight into Shanghaiers life and chinese cousine. We tried more than 8 dishes, all delicious. We had a nice break from the heat while having a tea ceremony. Thank you Jim for the experience! :)
