Wonderful guide, but stressful and poorly organized port pickup

Our experience with our driver/guide, Yanni, was excellent, but unfortunately the communication and organization before meeting him fell well short of what we expected from a tour advertised as a “cable car line-free” and stress-free option for cruise passengers. Communication from the tour operator before the day of the tour was minimal to nonexistent. I eventually had to contact Viator customer service myself and ask for assistance getting in touch with the local operator. For a cruise excursion involving a somewhat complicated port transfer, much clearer instructions should have been provided in advance. The pickup at the Old Port was particularly chaotic. We had to share a water taxi with passengers from several different tour groups, but there was no dedicated representative clearly directing us where to go or explaining the process. It was confusing and stressful—the exact situation we had booked this tour hoping to avoid. We did not finally meet our driver until around 10:30 AM. Fortunately, everything changed once we met Yanni. Yanni is a wonderful person and an exceptional guide. His car was spotlessly clean and comfortable, and he even kept cold bottled water in a cooler for us throughout the tour—a small detail that we really appreciated on a warm day. He was extremely knowledgeable about Santorini’s history, culture, and landscape, paid close attention to our safety, and was very accommodating when we wanted to adjust the itinerary. He also knew how to navigate an extremely busy Santorini and helped us avoid some of the largest crowds, which made a significant difference to our experience. Yanni went beyond simply driving us from place to place. He took many wonderful photos of our group, suggested a great gelato shop, and recommended a lovely restaurant that we really enjoyed. His local recommendations and personal attention made the day feel customized to us rather than like a standard sightseeing tour. We would highly recommend Yanni personally—he deserves five stars and was the highlight of our experience. The reason for our overall four-star rating is the lack of communication before the tour and the poorly coordinated port pickup. With clear pre-arrival instructions and a dedicated representative organizing passengers at the Old Port, this could easily have been an outstanding experience from beginning to end.

We had an amazing time in Santorini, and our tour guide, Alex, was absolutely incredible! He took us to all the best photo spots and made sure we got beautiful pictures along the way. He also brought us to an amazing restaurant with delicious food. What really made the experience extra special was how thoughtful and accommodating Alex was. He even went out of his way to fulfill my son’s request to visit McDonald’s! 😊 Alex made us feel so comfortable and took such great care of us throughout the day. He truly made our Santorini trip so much more memorable. We couldn’t have asked for a better guide. Highly recommend Alex to anyone visiting Santorini!

Amazing day in Santorini

Alex was fantastic! Being a local, he knew Santorini inside and out and showed us many of the island’s most memorable spots. He was friendly, knowledgeable, and incredibly patient, especially with our children. He went out of his way to make sure everyone was comfortable and enjoying the experience. He also took some wonderful family photos for us throughout the day. We were able to leave our cruise ship early and take the cable car without any wait, which saved us a great deal of time and made the beginning of our tour smooth and stress-free. One of the highlights for our family was visiting the black beach. Alex recommended a restaurant right by the water, and it turned out to be an excellent choice. We would also like to thank Samantha. Because we chose the cable car instead of the water taxi, she promptly refunded €100 for the unused service. We truly appreciated her honesty, professionalism, and outstanding customer care. This tour exceeded our expectations, and we highly recommend it. If you have the opportunity to tour with Alex, don’t hesitate—he helped make our visit to Santorini a truly memorable experience.
