This was one of the best vacations we have ever been. We got to do so many interesting activities; it is hard to single out one as our favorite. We covered many points of interest from coast to coast. Staying in the same hotel was convenient even if it meant travel time can be long to some of the places. I truly think it is a great value. The tour guides were attentive and friendly. We enjoyed our stay at Radisson, San Jose. The setting was beautiful, with a lot of amenities and the rooms were very comfortable and clean. Breakfast was sumptuous with a lot of choices and delicious.

Great guides but too much road time

This was booked as a last minute tour with the aim to see as much of CR as possible and especially the wildlife. Good: the guides Estevan and Leny were excellent and clearly professional and friendly, with a very caring approach to all guests. They are both a real credit to the company. The pick ups from the hotel were punctual. On day 1 we travelled to Quepos in the south West for a catamaran wildlife and snorkeling tour. We were looking for dolphins and instead saw humpback whales which was amazing. There were 2 days of tours to volcanoes. One would have been sufficient. The coffee tour at Doka was interesting, but the prices were double or triple the retail prices in supermarkets, so did not motivate us to spend. The waterfalls and rescued animal zoo was interesting to see animals of CR up close, and Leny was excellent at spotting even the smallest animals. We even saw an anteater. The less good parts: The hotel was the Radisson in downtown San Jose. We wer stationed here for the entire trip. It's a tired and old building with leaks from the bath. Staff also warned us not to venture out by foot outside the grounds after sunset due to safety issues (drugs/pimps/prostitution/robberies) in the area. You can get a taxi into central San Jose for usd 3-4. The main downside of this tour though was the amount of time spent travelling to and from San Jose each day to get to the actual excursion. Some days as much as 11 hours were spent on the road which is very tiring. The reason is CR roads are massively over capacity, too many cars and not enough roads. For that reason this format of tour is not one I would recommend. Instead, my advice is to pick a tour that moves location each day or every other day, and one that is not solely based around returning to San Jose every day. Or as we did in the end, check out early, hire a car and go and explore CR for yourself. You will see and experience far more, and get to see the real CR.

Regarding Doka Coffee Tour and La Paz Waterfall Gardens Thank you for your comments. In the case of Doka, it is a premium coffee plantation designed for tourism, so prices are not comparable to local supermarkets. As for La Paz Waterfall Gardens, we are glad to hear you enjoyed the experience and wildlife observation, where a knowledgeable guide truly makes a difference. Regarding the hotel and its location The Radisson San José is an urban hotel used primarily as a logistical base. As with many capital cities in the region, San José has mixed areas, and not all zones are recommended for walking at night. For this reason, we always advise using taxis or private transportation, as you did. Regarding travel times This is an important point, and we appreciate you mentioning it. During December, especially around the end of the year and holiday period, Costa Rica experiences its peak tourist season. This happens only a couple of weeks per year and often results in heavy traffic on routes leading to popular destinations, something that is beyond the control of any tour operator. Additionally, when looking at the map, the destinations included in the itinerary are located in opposite directions. A point-to-point tour in Costa Rica involves extremely complex logistics, higher operational costs, and less flexibility, and in practice would limit the itinerary to only two or three destinations in a week. For this reason, we do not usually recommend that format, as it reduces the variety of experiences. That said, we fully respect your opinion and understand that each traveler has different expectations. Costa Rica is a country with a very complex geography, characterized by mountains and natural barriers, and this reality is directly reflected in its road infrastructure. Pros: It was a great experience overall, with excellent communication from the tour operator. Cons: On the day of our zip‑line trip, we were placed in a very small van, and two of the seats were child‑sized. The lunch provided was not very good, except for the meal in La Fortuna. The hotel (Delta Marriott) did not feel like a four‑star property—according to the official site it was 3.5 stars—and it was older and undergoing renovations.

Regarding meals, the vast majority of our guests find the included lunches very enjoyable, and this is the first time we have received this comment for this package. That said, food preferences are highly personal. Our menus are intentionally oriented toward traditional Costa Rican cuisine, and while we do offer alternatives when available, local flavors may not appeal to everyone in the same way. Concerning transportation, vehicle size is assigned based on group composition and availability on specific days. All vehicles used meet safety and operational standards, even if seating configurations may vary. As for the hotel, Delta by Marriott San José is officially certified under international five-star standards, which can be verified on the certification plaque displayed in the hotel lobby. Online ratings such as Google scores reflect guest review averages, not official hotel classification, and should not be confused with star certification. We appreciate your feedback, as it helps future travelers better understand what to expect, and we’re glad you enjoyed Costa Rica overall.

Beyond incredible, fantastic doesn’t even begin to describe it

This was honestly one of the best tours I’ve ever done in my life. From start to finish, everything was smooth and so well organized. We felt supported and taken care of throughout the entire experience. Our guide most days was Lenny, and she was absolutely incredible. She had an amazing depth of knowledge and shared so much with us. On top of that, she went above and beyond by taking us to a few extra spots along the way and even making it possible for me to fly my drone. Her expertise, kindness, and great personality really made this tour unforgettable. The logistics were also flawless—pick-up and drop-off were seamless, always punctual, and perfectly managed. The days could be long, with some early mornings and late evenings, but as long as you’re well rested (and you can even catch some sleep on the drives), you’ll be able to enjoy every moment. Overall, I cannot recommend this tour enough. Every detail was thoughtfully planned and executed, and Lenny truly made it a once-in-a-lifetime experience. If you have the chance, don’t hesitate—this is a tour you won’t regret!

The days are very long due to heavy traffic. Longer than we expected based on the itinerary descriptions. The buses hold 15 or less passengers which is very nice. We had exceptional drivers/guides. Viator was good about keeping in contact and adjusting when necessary. We were not pleased to see our hotel was not in an area good for walking, but it did have an excellent inexpensive restaurant for lunch and dinner. We enjoyed every activity we participated in.

All activities are good. The only uncomfortable experience was the tipping thing for rafting. The guide of rafting is good and professional. However, the way that he was after tips made me very uncomfortable. When we were done, he said that I would be there to have my tips. He made a joke saying don’t give my tips to him (he pointed to other guide). So I reminded myself to tip him the first thing. After I saw him at the meeting point, the first thing I did was to tip him. Based on my check on google before we went to Costa Rica, the tip to rafting guide is $3-$5 so I gave him a CRC 2000 which equals $4 and he said: “I don’t want your money, you take it home” in front of everyone. I felt like a fool and a beggar. I realized that he was unhappy for the too little money. Then I asked someone else who was on the same raft how much should the tip is and he mentioned maybe 10% but I didn’t know how much the event cost and he said maybe cost $80 or $100. So my husband took CRC 5000 which equals to $10 to find him and gave to him and he took it. Later when we were in the van, the guide came over to look for someone and he told a man: “If you want to tip your guy, he is still there.” The man then got out of the van and went to tip another guide. I have been tipping every one and tipped CRC 5000 at zip line place. I did not mind to tip him more than CRC 2000 if I got different info. He wanted more than CRC 2000, he could say it in different ways instead of rejecting it in front of over 20 people to make me feel so uncomfortable.

Best Guide = No Worries

This package include all the amazing adventures that Costa Rica has to offer. Our guide, Lenny, was the absolute best at navigating and personalizing the each step of our journey and went out of her way each day to do something special. We especially appreciated her ability to transport us safely and efficiently throughout Costa Rica at all hours of the day and night, all while making it seem carefree and effortless. Her English was great, and she was able to translate several conversations to ensure we received the best of everything. As for the tours, we loved not having to worry about driving or paying tour admission fees. Everything was always taken care of ahead of time. We also appreciated breakfast and lunch arrangements each day. The tour office was also great about responding to personal messages before end during our trip. My husband and I chose to end our vacation at Manuel Antonio and the company graciously allowed us to be dropped off at our resort. We found it relaxing to have three days to unwind on the Costa Rican coast. All in all, we cannot say enough nice things about this package, company and guide. We would do it exactly the same all over again. Some words of advice would include having cash (US currency was accepted everywhere we went) to tip drivers and tour guides and knowing in advance, what the appropriate amount would be. We would also recommend always having an extra change of clothes in your backpack in case you need them. Traveling in the month of July we found that rain jackets and umbrella were a must. We struggled to keep things dry so the use of the hair dryer in the bathroom allowed us to dry out our shoes, rain jackets, and umbrellas for the next day’s adventures. We found that having multiple pairs of nylon pants, long sleeve shirts, and sweatshirts were appropriate when traveling in the mountains. In Manuel Antonio, we found typical summer clothing to be appropriate. The apps we used most were Google translate, a currency calculator, and Waze. Pura Vida…according to Google-It's a way to greet, say goodbye, express well-being, and show appreciation for the simple things. With that…pura vida!

Hotel is nice and is a short walk to central area of San Jose with a lot of shops and restaurants. Tour guides are nice and professional. This is a package for people who wants a worry free experience. The only problem is that all tours are 2-4 hours of bus rides from San Jose and we had to get up around 5am everyday.

I'm writing to express my disappointment with this trip, two of the 8 days tours that we had paid for were only listed for a half day tour ( Irazu Volcano and Canopy San Luis ). Additionally , another one day tour we had planned for "Rafting" was cancelled and received a notification at 3:30pm the day before which means we cannot plan to do anything on such short notice, we received $160 refund for the cancellation and this does not make up for the fact that we had planned and looked forward to this tour for weeks which we paid $3000. We had high hopes for this trip, and we were disappointed that we did not receive the service that we had paid for. We feel that we were misled and that the company did not live up to its promises. We would appreciate a response to this complaint as soon as possible, including a resolution to my concerns, and compensation for the unfulfilled portions of our trip.

Due to heavy rainfall and unsafe river conditions, we had no choice but to cancel the activity. We had a fantastic action-packed vacation. So glad we did this tour as there is no way we could’ve done it all on our own. Hayro, our guide was simply awesome. He kept our group entertained and informed, and made sure we all had a fun safe time. There is travel time involved in order to get to the numerous activities, so it’s a good idea to have ebooks or podcasts loaded on your device for those drives.

We chose this trip fairy last minute, given our busy work schedules. The team at Summer Travel was very prompt with booking confirmations, communication and keeping us on schedule for each day’s adventure. Our private tour guide, Alejandro (Alex) was fantastic - sharing insider knowledge about the places we were visiting, and also being open to feedback and prompt with the couple trip adjustments we requested. My partner and I both loved the trip and were pleased with the choice of locations and daily schedules, ranging from low-key beach time in Manuel Antonio to the crazy adrenaline of white water rafting on the Pacuare river. Highly recommend this tour for anyone seeking to maximize their first time in Costa Rica!

This tour was wonderful and marked our first trip to Costa Rica! We loved every minute. I'd highly recommend to anyone looking for a way to explore and learn about Costa Rica without having to take time planning or having to find your our transportation. Everyday we traveled to a different destination and had a new adventure thanks to our guide. Highlights included jumping into the Pacific Ocean, relaxing in a picturesque thermal river, gliding like Superman on a zip-line over a lush forest, whitewater rafting in a secluded river gorge, and trying local cuisine. In the evenings I enjoyed relaxing in the hot tub and pool at the hotel and going for walks on the days we were back before dark. Accommodations were spacious and the staff was very friendly. Since the tour is based out of San Jose, your guide will drive you to the tour destinations each day so make sure you have some of your favorite music and audio-books downloaded on your device. And don't close your eyes, the views along the way are incredible! If you have extra time, I'd recommend staying in Costa Rica a few days after the tour to explore one of the coasts or another city in Costa Rica you'd like to visit.

This was a fantastic tour package with many activities included! We saw many parts of the country during the variety of activities planned. The hotel accommodations were great, the itinerary was well planned and our tour guide, Jean, was professional, friendly and helpful. Honestly, i wouldn't normally travel this way (a tour package) but it worked out really well for a busy family not having to worry about making all the arrangements for each of the different activities (and there are a lot!), renting a car, navigating throughout the country, etc. This made everything so easy!

Most of the guides' dismal attitude, from the first Tour they were unempathetic, the guide named Jairo very irritable. The 7 Day Tours ended at 3 pm, practically only covered 6 hours a day, nothing discussed in the description, we did not enter the hot springs, in Manuel Antonio Park we only stayed 30 minutes, the catamaran broke down and did not make up for lost time. On the first transfer from the airport to the hotel he handled the driver with very little caution and the second transfer from the hotel to the airport, the driver arrived late, I had to look for him because he did not get out to the lobby, nor did he get down to support us with luggage. Not recommended.
