Not worth the time or travel to Fortuna

The driver was very pleasant and helpful on the other hand the company handling of tourist with details and guidance along with communication and response time is very poor. They leave you waiting answer is very brief and they wanted to over charge $70 to drop off at hotel when I ordered an uber for $17 dollars. Monitoring travel across Costa I’d give this company a C- in hospitality and customer service.

The shuttle arrived over 40 minutes late. While I understand that traffic happens, there was minimal communication about the delay or an updated ETA. The ride itself was fine, but better communication would have made a big difference.

I booked this one-way shuttle bus from San Jose Airport to La Fortuna and arrived there safely. The instructions were easy to follow and the communication was excellent. There was a ton of traffic, so the bus arrived a bit late, but it wasn’t anything too bad. There were a few other passengers who arrived almost an hour late, which delayed our trip. The traffic was also terrible, only adding to the delay. Of course, this wasn’t at the fault of the company or driver. We made a pitstop at a cute souvenir shop on the way to Fortuna. One thing that I’ll advise is to bring a sweater and to wear pants. The weather changes quickly and the clouds and wind came in as soon as the sun went down. Also, this ride is not for the weak of the weak stomached (especially during the night). A good portion of the road was windy and elevated on an incline with steep dropoffs and one lane sections. I’ll be honest; our lives were literally in the driver’s hands at many points. There was a point where you couldn’t even see in front (completely clouded out), but the driver was experienced and navigated those roads like a champ. The girl sitting next to me and I were both feeling a bit scared during these gnarly parts, be we all made it safe and sound. I would NOT recommend trying to rent a car to navigate this road yourself unless you’ve had experience. It was truly scary, especially at night! Now I know why they don’t do night shuttles. It can be dangerous. But, luckily the driver did a wonderful job. Hats off to him (I wish I would have gotten his name). Due to traffic, the drive was more like 5ish hours long. Still worth it for the peace of mind. I’d recommend them if you’re looking for transportation from San Jose Airport to La Fortuna.

Good enough and affordable transportation

The driver was very nice, drove safely, and clearly knew what he was doing, especially considering the foggy, winding roads and rain during the trip. The only downside was the pickup process, which was confusing. The instructions said to meet in front of the restaurant by the airport, but the shuttle was actually outside near the parking lot. I had to call to clarify, and honestly, if I hadn’t followed up and navigated a bit myself, I probably would have been left behind. It would really help if the meeting directions were clearer, since they don’t appear to come looking for you if you’re not in the exact spot. Overall, it was a safe and comfortable ride, but the pickup instructions definitely need improvement.

it depends on your driver how mich you’ll enjoy your ride. also they arrive late no communication at all. but you better be outside when they arrive . on the way to la fortuna from airport . we had randall and alexander as the driver and his partner. they were 30 minutes late and ride to lafortuna took 5 hours!! but due to traffic and 2 rest stops . i just think this need to be edited from 3 hrs . they made this ride feel like a tour/excursion in which that made the highlight and ride well worth it. we made 2 rest stops and had the opportunity to take photos and they took the photos at some amazing stops for each passengers. they .made sure that everyone stayed hydrated by giving us a bottle of water . gave advice and tips about things to do and not to do in la fortuna. told us to contact them if we had any questions even if not related to our ride like for recommendations ect. i took a nap woke up and they were still talking which is really good . they were pointing out a lot things along the ride explaining the sight seeing. helped with loading and unloading bags. they were excellent together!!!!! and this ride to lafortuna was amazing. the reason if give 5 stars. on the way back la fortuna to airport! we had a diff driver whine name was yeibin perez did not help with bags not one time ! just sat there and opened doors and watched people struggle taking their bags to the back and removing from the back on their own 😂. didn’t talk to us not one time besides pick up when asked for names and also when we arrived at the 1 stop break during trip . the whole bus was quiet and boring the entire trip😂 he was driving like a bat from hell so maybe everyone was quiet out of fear and praying in their heads ! he was 16 minutes late for pick up it’s ok. i would like to have known he would run late tho because we were standing in rain .. i was told he’s running late being careful for safety of passengers due to rain but this was not the case! he was driving so fast that we all were like lord please get us there safely! although he did make 1 stop and did get us there in 3 hrs. he would honestly be the reason i wouldn’t book with them again unless i know he wont be the driver. i give this driver 1 star so overall because they are with the same company the first 2 people made me say hell yeah. 4 stars i’ll give . 1 off due to perez

Departure was about 30 mins late, order of drop off seems unorganized. Driver barely spoke English. Wasn’t considered for being early on drop off eventhough I had a scheduled trip at 1. Arrived at my hotel at 2. Recommending if you are on a budget and has a lot of free time.

Great trip to la Fortuna

The trip from Juan Santa Maria airport to La Fortuna was good. We were picked up on time and drop off on time to our hotel in La Fortuna. Halfway of the trip the van stop for us to go to the bathroom and to get a snack at a souvenir store located at a paramo area with a nice sightseeing. The van had air conditioning and the driver was very professional. I will recommend this service.

Left waiting over an hour

I was left waiting over an hour, ended up having to take a taxi which was an additional 190.00 to my location. The company refuses to give me a refund. They don’t reach out to tell me the driver was running late but instead waited for me to reach out to then let me know. Stating un foreseen circumstances.

Excellent experience. I met the shuttle just past where the taxis are located. The bus was clean and air conditioned. The driver was very nice and extremely helpful. He took each person to their individual drop off point which I found very helpful. They also stopped midway for a bathroom break and a shopping opportunity. Great trip, great price, great service. I highly recommend.

We had to wait 45 minutes for a passenger to arrive, so I got to my place a lot later than expected. They should give a warning for everyone, if they aren’t there on time, they’ll just leave you, because it affects everyone. The trip was a little longer than 3 hours, so you should also keep than in mind. Other than that, the driver was very nice and the shuttle comfortable.

Tour operator was very responsive and was able to provide me all the info I needed. I was in a flight delay and busy immigration situation and the tour operator was in contact with me all the time and could confirm with me if the shuttle will still wait as there are other passengers and we want to be mindful of their time. In the end, I made it as they waited for me and that really made my day. The driver was kind and his driving was safe. Would use volcano travel again!

Nightmare ride

A little hectic being picked up at the airport. Our driver said she was a crazy driver and she was 100% correct. She merged in to traffic so quickly our van felt like it would tip. Several times the right tires went off the pavement on to the dirt shoulder on a narrow road. The real winner was when she hit a curb two hours in to our drive and blew a tire. My kids and I got in to an uber for the remaining hour drive. My husband stayed with the van. After the tire was changed the van wouldn’t start because the battery had died. Viator wouldn’t refund any of our money.

We had a pleasant experience with our driver. He was very friendly and shared a bit of the history of Costa Rica with us. The ride itself wasn’t too bad; although there were many winding roads, it was manageable. However, if you’re someone who gets carsick, I would recommend taking some medicine prior to the drive. I will be booking through this company on our next visit to Costa Rica.

OK transport, arrived safely

I assumed that the ride would take 3 hrs but it was over 5, so that was a bummer. Some of it was unavoidable with traffic and drop offs. I'm not sure what the other delay was, as the driver was late to pick up. The bus was run down compared to other transport we used. But the air conditioning worked and we arrived safely. The driver was also friendly. There is a bathroom and snack stop scheduled but they only had chips available for us to purchase since it was later in the day. Finally, if you do not have cell phone service, sign into airport wifi before reaching the meeting point. There is no wifi in or outside the restaurant where you are directed to wait. There is supposed to be wifi on the bus, but it was not posted.

Winding roads

It would be good for those with motion sickness to know before hand that the journey contains a lot of turns. Other than that the journey was okay. We were lucky that there was a tour guide going back to LA Fortuna who gave us a lot of information which the driver would not have been able because of language
