I was lucky to have Alfredo (Freddie) as my private tour guide. He was an expert and professional tour guide who regularly works for several highly regarded US and British group tour companies. Because it was a Sunday we couldn’t spend as much time as the itinerary allotted to the 3 churches that we visited because Mass was going on. However, to compensate Alfredo added 3 additional churches at my request (one of which he had never been inside before and another that my hotel recommended that I not visit by myself because it was not considered in a safe area). He also recommended a particular restaurant overlooking Quito’s Independence Square that I liked so much that I went to dinner there for 3 consecutive nights. This tour worked particularly well for me because I was traveling in Quito on my own and it gave me a good overview of the historic center that I was able to see in more detail in subsequent days.

Juanito was outstanding. He spoke very good English and called to alert us that he would be 10 minutes later due to traffic. Very knowledgeable about all aspects of Quito. We did the 3 hour tour of the old city and several churches. The churches were amazing and we were told that local artists were trained to do all the amazing sculptures inside and out.

My family took this city tour with Ivan as our guide. Ivan was right on time to pick us up from our hotel and started the tour with the The Virgin of the Panecillo lookout. He told us lots of interesting stories about the statue and the city while walking from one viewpoint to another. We then proceeded to explore the historic center with all its beautiful churches and governmental buildings. Ivan was very adaptive to our requests and shaped the tour to our interests. At the end of the tour he suggested an absolute gem of a lunch place. That meal was our best in Quito! Thank you, Ivan, for the great tour of Quito!

This tour turned out to be a quick stop in Quito because I was going to Las Lajas Sanctuary in Colombia. To say the least Ecuador really amazed me! I wish I would have had more time to stay. I was fortunate enough to be able to go to two main sites Middle of the World (had some delicious Fritada in the square) and Basilica of the Vow. I was told the tour only includes the historical center, since I wanted to tour Middle of the World then we would only make a quick stop in the center's basilica and skip the rest of stops from the original itinerary. I had to pay additional for the change in itinerary and for my pickup outside of the city center- near the airport (in cash). I truly enjoyed it but it was definitely pricier than I anticipated (in comparison to another tour I had the following day- full day). My tour guide was Fabian a quiet Quito native.

We had a wonderful experience with Donny. He was great at sharing the highlights of Ecuador and Quito seeing the views experiencing the old part of the city as well. Even dealing with all of the traffic to and from our airport hotel, he was amazing. We would like to, set up a visit for next Saturday, December 7 to visit the Mindo rainforest. Fabian was fantastic! Best city tour we’ve had so far. He was knowledgeable, fun, genuinely kind and took extra time with us. It’s a great way to start a stay in a new city with walking and car stops from our hotel. We were very interested in the history of Quito and Ecuador and Fabian could answer any question thrown at him. He gave us pointers on places to eat and explore later. It was the right tour with the best guide for the perfect amount of time.

What an amazing day we had discovering Quito with our guide Danny with Ecuador Wonders Tours on our private Quito City Tour!
Danny met the four of us at our hotel at the appointed time, and off we went to discover Quito. We mentioned that we really wanted to ride the Teleferico to the viewpoint at the top of Quito, and we were on our way. I am not sure that this was even part of the tour but he gladly accommodated our wishes.
On the way, Danny imparted his knowledge of Quito and was so professional and friendly. While riding up the Teleferico, we noticed that some grass underneath had been quite trampled. We asked what caused that and he said it was probably done by bears. Not a minute later, we were looking down and out the window, and we saw a baby black bear! What a start to our day!
Once at the top we took pictures of the panoramic view of Quito, and Danny described the volcanoes we could see from the top as well as showing us the Arbol papel tree. His knowledge of the plants and surroundings was amazing.
Next we took a small hike to the swings located further up the mountain. on the way we had our picture taken with an alpaca. The swing was amazing! It felt like flying over the world!
We then headed back down by the scenic teleferico and we were off to discover historic downtown Quito.
Our first stop was to explore the gorgeous Basillica del Voto Nacional which is the largest neo gothic cathedral in all of the Americas.
Next we went to explore Plaza Grande down the cobblestone streets of historic Quito. We tried Ponche, a sweet creamy beer, and enjoyed our walk admiring all the beautiful churches and amazing architecture while Danny shared his immense knowledge of all we saw.
Next, we visited the beautiful Inglesia de la Campania de Jesus., Quitos most ornate church, also known as the gold church, capped by green and gold domes, built in Baroque style, with perfect symmetry and amazing art.
We then visited the oldest religious site in all of Ecuador, Inglesia de San Francisco, established in 1536. It is an enormous complex spanning the length of the public square.
Next Danny took us to Jumbos for a artesinal chocolate tasting that is located very close by. We entered a small door, into a gorgeous courtyard and up the stairs to the shop. We had an in depth description of how chocolate is made an an amazing tasting . So yummy!
Then Danny escorted us to an amazing restaurant for a late lunch/early dinner located in the Palazio Arzobispal called "Hasta la vuelta, Senor..." We had an amazing meal while being entertained by a keyboard player. They have great Sangria, and great food!
Thank you Danny, for showing us Quito. You were an amazing, personable, and knowledgable guide and we recommend you to anyone wanting to see Quito through a locals' eyes.
