Our time in Quito started out a little rough with one of us suffering altitude sickness. Daniel was quick to answer our message needing a later start for the tour and suggested a remedy for the sickness of dark chocolate and water (it worked pretty well). By 10:30 a.m. we were on our way, Daniel adjusted the day to make it easier and at a slower pace to deal with the altitude sickness. We visited El Panecillo, the giant statue of the Virgin Mary overlooking the city, here he explained about the battles for the city and the history preceding European settlers. (Much of prehistory is lost to lava flow over the millennia). From here we went to the main square of Quito and visited several churches, the most impressive was the Golden church of the Jesuits. It is adorned with 7 tons of gold leaf. Everything was beautiful. Daniel had a vast knowledge of the religious symbolism in the churches, and was able to show us how Christianity was introduced to the people of the region who had no concept of heaven or hell. He will tell you so many interesting things including how the church incorporates the indigenous peoples symbols for the sun and many other links between these early people. After a stop for lunch, where we enjoyed guaguas de pan and colada morada (food and drink consumed to observe the day of the dead), we were off to the Intiñan Museum at the equator. This museum, located on the actual equatorial line, had a wonderful guided tour that first discussed the history of the indigenous people of the region. Displays included real shrunken heads, animal displays and a structure made in the traditional way that keeps it insulated from the equatorial heat. There is then the demonstrations of the equatorial phenomena like the Coriolis effect and the magnetic center of the earth. You can make pix standing on the line and all the other things. Even balanced an egg on a nail. It was a lot of fun. Daniel then returned us to our hotel about 6 p.m. after our day of exploring the city. In spite of our own rough start, Daniel came through for us and we thank him.
If you’re looking for an intellectual tour of the city, a lively discussion of history, religion, indigenous people, nature, and culture, Daniel is your man!

The Complete Private City Tour was a wonderful way to see the highlights of Quito in one day. We visited beautiful landmarks, learned interesting facts about the city’s history, and had the flexibility to explore at our own pace.
Our guide was knowledgeable and took us to great spots for photos and local culture. It was nice to have a private experience, which made the day feel relaxed and personalized.

My wife and I had one day to explore Quito and we hit the jackpot with Daniel and his city tour. Daniel picked us up at our hotel on time at 9 and we mapped out a day that matched our interests with his expertise and recommendations. Daniel took us to (the true) equator line where we had a great time learning all about “the middle of the world”. Daniel then took us to the Virgin of Quito - overlooking the city where Daniel explained more about Quito’s history, culture, neighborhoods, etc. We spent most of the afternoon in the historic part or town - a good lunch together with local dishes, a few churches (Daniel is a Quito church expert!), and then an amazing time at a local chocolate-making shop where we learned so much about chocolate, helped make some, and tasted a lot of really interesting varieties. We loved Daniel’s knowledge and passion about his home city and country. He presented thoughtful and balanced perspectives, and has a gift for communicating. Daniel gave us a fun, interesting, memorable experience. We feel like we optimized our time in Quito and if you want to do the same, book Daniel!

This week we took this fabulous “Let me show you Quito” private tour with Daniel. He was most knowledgeable in the history of the places he took us. We are seniors, and he paced the tour to our abilities. He is young and enthusiastic about making this the best tour possible for us. We can highly recommend Daniel.

Tour operator and owner Daniel is terrific. He loves his country, the people, and it’s histories. It shows in his knowledge and explanations during his tours. He is punctual, the car is safe and clean, and he really customizes the experience for you based on your input. I had the pleasure of booking two tours and my airport transfers with him. I travel a lot, and Daniel was one of the best driver/guides ever. Highly recommend you start your Quito experience with him.
