I’d rate the Punta Cana Wild Buggy Eco Adventure as somewhat good, but it definitely had its ups and downs.
On the positive side, Macao Beach was beautiful and probably the highlight of the excursion. It was a nice place to relax for a bit and enjoy the scenery after the ride.
That said, there were several issues that made the experience less enjoyable. The buggy itself didn’t feel safe or well-maintained — the gas pedal was sticking, the brake didn’t seem to work properly, and the steering wheel felt misaligned and unbalanced. It’s hard to fully enjoy the ride when you’re worried about the condition of the vehicle.
The guide was okay but not particularly attentive. While he was somewhat professional, he seemed more interested in socializing with vendors and with friends along the route, which felt a bit awkward and detracted from the overall experience.
The trail itself was very bumpy and not especially scenic, so don’t expect stunning views during the ride. The stop at the spring water cave was underwhelming as well — it wasn’t anything particularly memorable or unique.
There were also two stops at vendor locations where there was a clear push to buy products. That’s fairly common on tours, but it did feel a bit excessive and disrupted the flow of the excursion.
Overall, while there were a couple of enjoyable moments, especially at Macao Beach, the safety concerns with the buggy and the overall organization could use improvement.

Prettiest beach in Punta Cana, but also very expensive drinks. The cenote was gorgeous. Super dirty mud drive, which was a ton of fun. Car didn’t work well and they quickly swapped out with new vehicle. Bring cash.

So much fun! Loved it! Kinston was an amazing tour guide!! The ride was fun and adventurous, but stayed safe the entire time!!

The hotel pick up was great, tour guide was nice. The buggy we drove was in very poor condition and did not feel safe compared to all others. They did not have anywhere safe to leave belongings so our bags were ruined with mud. The guide was very pushy at the end and wanted us to give reviews and leave tips it seems as though everyone’s kindness expired once the excursion was over

It was a lot of fun on this bumpy ride! The staff was very helpful especially Junior! The vendors at the stops were aggressive but we were warned. Be sure to bring a bandana. We weren’t informed of it until the day of.

The tour guide and staff were great. We felt safe and we had a lot of fun. Would definitely do it again.

We had a great time on the bugglies, in the cave and at the beach. There were 6 of us in 3 buggies. It rained just before our excursion so it was extra muddy. We were the only ones at the cave and had lots of time to swim. Another group arrived just as we were leaving. The only part of the excursion we disliked was during the tour they really harass you to buy things from them. They even chase you down to your buggie. They were relentless. They also told us not to buy from the little stores when we first arrived. I wish I purchased from them because they were kind and did not harass us.

It was a wonderful experience for me and my family overall. Some things to keep in mind. We are not coming from a cruise of hotel and the communication on how to find the property was extremely poor. Also it seems like the price for food and drink at the beach were extremely high. Also it was extremely muddy so please dress appropriately. These were the only low lights.

I was very explanatory and safer . They clarified very quickly . Also if you need refund for the ticket you will have it
Brooke_W, Jul 2025
It was mediocre. Riding through the mud was fun but since there were so many other buggie companies we were at a standstill a lot of times and so many people and buggies. I guess July is the worse time for beaches, it’s full of seaweed and dark water. The water cave was cool but dark not like photos. The coffee tasting and cigar tasting was okay but also right where we started so we drove to water cave place then back to original spot then headed on to beach. Lots of pushy locals selling junk that don’t take no for an answer. It was so crowded and chaotic. It’s okay but I wouldn’t suggest it but if you want to feel how locals live, may be worth it.

Dear customer,
It's true that sometimes there are many people on these paths. We see that you liked the activity in the end. The compulsive selling isn't our fault. In fact, we sent you an email explaining all of this. We're sorry that you didn't like some of the things. Thank you very much for your comment.

The family buggy didn’t feel safe and the gear kept changing on its own a every bump in the road… the driver’s seat couldn’t be adjusted so you’d need long arms or to lean forward to drive, the staff was ok but you could feel the pressure for them to rush everyone in and out of each point of interest. We spent only 5mins at the Cenote, and we didn’t get a picture of the jump on the water, only close-ups that didn’t show the cave.
Everything is overpriced but that’s part of the destination, you can try to negotiate, it can work.

Dear guest,
I've already spoken with the guides responsible for the groups, and we've brought up the short time in the cave—it's only 20 to 25 minutes here. Regarding the compulsive selling, it's not our fault; we explained it to you just before the tour started. We apologize for anything you didn't like. Thank you for your comment.

The dune buggy ride was fun and the beach was beautiful, but overall the experience felt like a money trap. There was constant soliciting at every stop, one “no” was never enough. At the cave, you get 5 minutes max to decide if you’re jumping in before being rushed out. If you’re torn between ATV and dune buggy, know that dune buggies leave you completely covered in mud, while ATVs are way cleaner. Photos cost $60 to $130, plus a surprise tax they don’t mention upfront, you only find out when your card notification shows an extra $16 charge, and when you ask, the guy casually says, “taxes.” Nearly everyone you encounter expects a tip, even kids at the stops. Hidden fees were everywhere. At the end, they heavily pressure you to leave a 5-star review, which is why so many look overly positive. Would I do it again? Absolutely not. Do I regret it? Not really, just be prepared.
Response from Host, Jul 2025
Dear customer, we sent you a message by email stating that there are compulsive sellers and that the company is not responsible for these sales. As for the fact that the buggies get dirty, well, perhaps you didn't like it, and most people are just looking to get covered in mud. As for the price of the photos, it's not our fault either. We have a company that provides the service, and if you want to buy them, it's your choice. As for the 18% they charge on credit, we also inform you by email and before the tour departs; it's also not our fault. As for the review, we simply ask for it and we never, ever ask for 5 stars. Besides, the customer is the one who assigns the stars. We regret that your activity didn't meet your expectations. We take the good and the bad from here.

The tour guide was helpful and patient. We had a great time. The buggy’s were a awesome adventure and highly recommended

You need a bandana and sunglasses or goggles. You will get muddy. There are stops for snacks, food. Very fun!
Jamie_T, Feb 2025
This operator allowed us to book a toddler... this was NOT safe enough for them to do. We thought it was going to be an enclosed ATV and it was just metal bars, even on the floor. The brakes on our cart went out while we were on the road and we were left behind - again, with a toddler. Our ATV stopped working completely and they had to SEPERATE me, my husband and child by putting me on the back of a quad alone with a man we hadn't met yet, and my husband and child in a different UTV/ATV so we could speed up to meet our group. We never got a replacement and we had to SIT ON THE LAP of out family friends vehicle. When I asked about a refund I was ignored. Not happy at all. I am a travel agent and this was by far the worst most uncomfortable tour I have done. I would not recommend.

Amazing experience me and my daughters had a lot of fun, and a lot of 😊 mud. The Tour guys were very kind and always willing to help. The driver was nice and puntual to picked and dropped us up at the hotel,

Overall very happy with the experience. Strongly recommend to plan accordingly to get muddy and change of clothes if you plan to swim in Cenote. Would be nice if the provider sends instructions a little earlier than just the night before.
Esther_C, Dec 2024
The tour with the buggy was great. My 3 year old loved the bumps and ride through muddy waters. We got to see a local aquatic cave and swim in it, see how locals make coffee and cocoa which seems to be a popular stop for a lot of these local tours. We got to go to a local beach as well. The only con is that there were a few stops where the locals were a bit aggressive in demanding we patronize their businesses. The few times we wanted to buy local you could tell they were understandably price gouging I.e. $30 for a sandwich without drinks. Other than that would do it again.
Tiffany_J, Nov 2024
The service was amazing and there were punctual with pick up service. I would definitely book again.
K_P, Oct 2024
Our driver was 45 mins late to pick us up. We were told the evening prior to meet at the security gate of our resort for 7:45am. The driver didn't show up until 8:30am. When we got to the excursion site, we were rushed by the tour guide to sign the waivers (was not even able to read it properly). Our tour guide looked like he did not want to be there. The entire excursion felt rushed. We were taken to 3 stops, all of which were were given maybe 5-10 mins to be at. The coffee/chocolate plantation area felt like a selling ploy, the demonstration was probably 5 mins tops and the rest of it was just the gentleman telling us about his products. The drive itself was good, with a mix of paved roads and off road routes. The Macao Beach was by far the best part as it is a beautiful beach. The excursion ended in 3 hours (even though it says 4 hours on the Viator page). When the excursion ended, the tour guide's whole demeanor changed (it was more positive and upbeat in comparison to earlier) when he asked the group to leave a review for him and passed around a QR code. On a positive note, the tour guide did give us a warning about the the sellers at the cave and beach and how to handle them. He also gave us 35mins at the beach. I recommend booking an excursion like this through your resort, as there are other options available.

We really enjoyed and appreciate our time with the company. Felix aka Le Gato was an excellent tour guide. We really enjoyed getting muddy and cooling off in the swimming cave. Looking forward to my next trip and using the company again.
Marilyn_B, Sep 2024
We really enjoyed the tout. The before not getting the info until the night before and the after being asked 80$ usd for the pics and being unfairly negotiated we less appreciated.
Farhan_S, Sep 2024
Kitson was awesome and tells you everything you need to know about the ride before hand. They are always with you throughout the ride. Overall whole exp was very nice and smooth.
Remember bring BANDANAS and SUNGLASSES as its mandatory or you can buy it there for $10 usd to more.
They have a shower for you after the ride so you can clean up but bring a to dry up.
If you planning on carrying you valueble items with you like passport, buy waterproof fanny pack off amazon. They come clutch
Sinem_O, Sep 2024
Do not expect much but it is fun activity to do with your family. To go to cave is waste of time, coffee/puro plantation is quite commercial. this is hat I did not like, we did a very similar one in Cuba and it was a real experience, this one was a bit more spending time :)
Nelrisa_D, Aug 2024
Felix & Kinston were really good tour guides. They were very concerned about everyone’s safety. Unfortunately, I can’t swim so I couldn’t enjoy the cave as much as others, but I did capture some great pics. Macao beach was BEAUTIFUL I wish we could have stayed longer at this stop. Please remember when doing this excursion to come with your goggles, face and hair covering, a swim suit under your clothes, shoes & clothes that you don’t mind getting soiled in mud. Keep in mind the level of mud is based on the rain fall before your excursion. Beware of all of the vendors/peddlers at the cave and the beach they have VERY aggressive sales tactics, it becomes annoying.
Kathy_C, Aug 2024
Family buggy ride was great. We enjoyed it. Got dirty but was able to was off at the beach and at buggy drop off location. Francesco was a great tour guide.

A good Price
MARIA_J, Aug 2024
Buggy was fun to drive but the buggys were very old and sketchy looking. Some were not safe at all. The tour guide was friendly but it took almost 4 hrs from pick up, transfer and wait time at the place to get our buggys. The cenote is not worth the stop it is mostly a lot of people trying to sell you a lot of overpriced food and drink items. The people helping the tour guide are definitively not eco friendly they would get the trash from our group that we were holding until we would find a trash can and they would just throw it in the marsh because they would not care about us holding extra items or finding a place. The beach stop itself it is a beautiful destination but sadly the way there is full of trash on either side of the road. The tour itself took our entire day we left at 9 and got back to our hotel at 6:30. The tour guide was nice, but they could organize it way better.
Kevin_L, Aug 2024
Great personalized experience. The tour guides are honest, genuine, and very helpful. And the owner is just as honest and helpful. Best company I’ve dealt with for buggy tour.
Anil_S, Jul 2024
The owner Thomas called me to advise that our shuttle pick-up was running late so he personally picked us up at our resort. Our buggy tour guide Kidson wad excellent as was the entire tour. Our family had a great time! Wear old clothe as you will get very muddy, but enjoy the experience. We highly recommend Thom's Tours.
