What To Expect

Make your way to Haleiwa on Oahu's North Shore.

Meet your licensed instructor to start your lesson at Haleiwa Beach Park, beginning with the basics on dry land. Learn how to paddle and how to stand up and catch a wave. A variety of small group lesson options ensure you get personalized attention.

Options available for a morning, midday, or afternoon surf session:
• Small-group lesson limited to three students per instructor; ages 8 and older
• Semi-private lesson limited to two students per instructor; no age restriction
• Private family lesson limited to three students per instructor; no age restriction.

After you're comfortable with the basics, slip on your reef shoes and wet suit and hit the water, which is a comfortable average temperature of 74 degrees F (23 degrees C). In a protected cove, safe from larger ocean breaks, catch gentle waves with your instructor by your side. The entire experience is tailored to your skill and comfort level. Most likely you’ll succeed in standing up during your first surf lesson, and possibly even catch waves by yourself.

I’ve always wanted to try surfing but never braved it until this trip. My Instructor was patient and upbeat even though I was scared to even try? He kept right next to me the whole time and the pictures they took turned out great. I loved it and am amazed I stood up several times my first time on a board.

Semi-Surf Lesson

Chris_B, Dec 2019
All in all, I thought the experience was pleasant. That said, I'm pretty easy. + Very nice, safe, and I was able to catch a couple of waves. - Completely disorganized. These are surfers, not so much business people. My instructor was a bit tired from working all day without really having much of a break. I understand that as I was getting tired after paddling just a couple of hours so I don't blame her. I showed up at 11:30am when my lesson wasn't until 3pm. The title of the lesson I chose on Viator said the following: "3pm Semi-Private Lesson 12:00" Already a little misleading in the title but the actual button I clicked with a time on it said 12:00pm The start date after reserving said :"Tuesday, December 24, 2019, 12:00 PM". and ALL of the information I received in details said starts at 12:pm. Other than 3pm in the original title, everything else said noon. I got there at 11:30am in case there was some extra check-in and was told it was pushed to 12:30pm. I waited, then was told to sit and listen with the 12:30pm group because I was private. After sitting through some explanation with the group, someone looked at the sheet and I was told I wasn't signed up until 3pm and asked if I could come back. I wondered why someone didn't look at the chart the moment I arrived? It was now about 1:15pm and now had to come back at 3pm. The two hour class had turned into an all day event. Luckily I did not really have other plans. My recommendation would be to send a validation of the time with the text message confirmation (I was asked if I received the text. I did, but it did not include a time, only an address and a google maps link that didn't work.) Ask for everyone's name as they approach and validate it with the scheduled chart immediately. Once validated, tell them what they have to fill out, what clothing options you have, how long until their session starts, briefing on what will be taught on dry ground, surfing etiquette, based on how many people are in class, how many runs each are likely to get and when they should expect to head back into the beach when done. As an instructor myself in a different capacity, A nice overview of what to expect during the entire class without getting to deep sets the stage and causes less confusion.

It was a great experience! We had never been surfing before and I did not believe I would even get to my knees. The first time she told me to go I was able to get up to my feet even if it was not for long. I tried 11 waves and was able to get to my feet on 7 of them! I highly recommend! We went in the afternoon, but book in the morning though as I was told afternoon the waves and currents are a lot more difficult!

We enjoyed this experience and are glad we gave it a try. Our guide was very knowledgeable about surfing and did an excellent job helping us get comfortable on the board. She gave us many opportunities to try and stand up on the board and helped us get back into formation to catch the waves. Part of the fun was watching the other surfers on the water who were amazing. We recommend this tour to anyone who wants to learn how to surf and experience it at the North Shore!

The instructors were very patient and helpful. An excellent activity for a first time surfer. The place was a little hard to find if you utilize the address directions on your navigation app. An excellent adventure

Would give this 10 Stars!!!! It was the best day ever!!! Our teacher Alexis was excellent! We were both able to stand and surf the waves immediately! Great remote location on the North Shore where they hold the lesson and easy to find. They were very friendly and gave us pointers to get better. It was for sure the highlight of our trip!

Gerne wieder :-
