Itinerary

Your day begins with pickup from your Nice hotel by air-conditioned vehicle. Accompanied by your guide and a small group of up to 16 people, travel through the picturesque countryside of France’s Provence region, about a 2-hour drive from the city.

The first stop of the day is Castellane, overlooked by its famous “Roc” cliff, after which you’ll continue past the Verdon Gorge, enjoying spectacular views over the almost 3,000-foot (700-meter) deep canyon. Next, visit the Provencal town of Moustiers Sainte-Marie, where you’ll have free time for lunch (own expense) and to browse the shops.

In the afternoon, stop at the Valensole Plateau, home to some of Provence’s most beautiful lavender fields, which bloom seasonally from mid-May through mid-July. You’ll make one final stop to admire the natural wonder of Sainte-Croix Lake before returning to Nice, where your tour ends with drop-off at your hotel.

Stunning views of works of nature ! Gorges du Verdon was breathtaking! Moustier Saint Marie was a charming, quaint medieval village. Guide Alessandro was a perfect guide and safe driver rolled into one - courteous, accommodating, knowledgeable about the sites & its history.

The tour was good and George was friendly and resourceful. Traveling in March is not the best however as most restaurants, shops, etc. are not open or close very early. The colors of the scenery are very drab and don’t provide the best picture opportunities. I would recommend late April to end of May for more colors in the scenery but still with less crowds.

Overall it was a great day. Our guide, Alessandro, provided great information about the region and its history. Pick up was on time, communication was great and the transportation was comfortable. The scenery is incredible. The Gorge de Verdon is a must see. Had we gone in the summer the lavender field would have been stunning. If seeing lavender is a highlight for you, then you need to do this tour in the summer when the lavender is in bloom.

The itinerary was outstanding! The views and experiences in the French Alps were breathtaking. The only issue was the Guide. He never introduced himself, ran other drivers off the road and scolded any passenger who asked a question. Other than requesting a guide good, this us a wonderful excursion!

Despite not being able to see the Lavander Fields (the flowers were harvested already), we really enjoyed the Gorges of Verdon experience. The villages were just so lovely. Alessandro, our guide, so informative. He was always looking out after our safety .

Worst excursion ever.

The trip touted at 9 hours took us just over 11 hours. Over 8 of those hours were in a car driven by what I can only describe as a young man possessed by speed. Just because you can drive faster than everyone else does not make you a good driver. We all held on for dear life as we thrashed in to the doors and each other. We stopped three times for 5 minutes to take a few quick pics. We stopped in a small town for lunch for an hour and ten minutes to eat with no time to explore. We stopped in the gorge for an hour and ten minutes long enough to take a short boat ride then back in the car. The lavender fields were bare so nothing to see there. This was by far the worst excursion I have ever endured and the description of the tour is complety misleading.

Unfortunately the driver was sick and did not appear to be comfortable speaking English, which was the entire group. At the start he notified us that he would not be answering any questions during the trip due to the drive being into the mountains. But even on level surface driving into the different stops he spoke no more than 5 sentences of information except what time we needed to return to the van. I would have given this tour ZERO stars except he found one of the few remaining patches of lavender. This was the consensus of other passengers as well. It’s one thing when the driver and group don’t communicate, but then have a guide or alt a minimum written or electronic access to the highlights of the 6+ hr trip. Viator, I would expect better from you.

Cancel the trip if you have got Igor as the tour guide

This is the worst one-day tour experience ever. The tour guide, Igor, was a driver rather than a tour guide. He never introduced any attraction and just told us the time limit of each site. The time spending on each site was limited. Most of the time was on the car. Besides, most parts of the road were windy and he was an impatient driver, his driving speed was fast such that some of us experienced motion sickness for the whole trip. He even horned us when we were about to get onto the car (but we were actually on time) as he was really impatient. We would rather cancel this trip even without refund if we knew our tour guide was that bad.

The itinerary was adjusted without advance warning. It felt very rushed and the entire tour was two hours shorter than advertised. The driver was an aggressive driver on difficult roads which resulted in significant car sickness for several passengers. He functioned as only a driver; he did not provide any information on the locations on the itinerary. There was no tour of the lavender fields. Instead we stopped on the side of the road for less than 10 minutes to take pictures. I have booked several tours through Viator in different countries and this was the worst tour. I do not recommend this tour. It was 2 1/2 hours outside of the car and 6 hours driving.

bad experience. As mentioned in the itinerary, we have one hour to visit Lac De Sainte Croix. However, we just passed by, only had a look at the lake. The tour guide took us to a waterfall which is not mentioned in the itinerary. We have to pay EUR1 for the admission fee. The waterfall is not worth visiting. Our time was wasted. The tour guide is quiet throughout the whole day. He did not tell us anything. Valensole is not as beautiful as the picture. One of the tour members asked the tour guide if the place we went is Valensole. It doesn't match the picture at all.

Don’t get misled by “pick up from your hotel”.. It will ruin your entire day!

The worst Viator experience that ruined my trip. We were looking forward to seeing lavender fields. The tour specifically stated that we would be picked up at our hotel address, and this was confirmed on the Viator app, with a map showing our hotel. I again received notification the day before that pick up would be at our “address”. I read over it at least 10 times! It was not until this morning that I then read a new message saying they wanted us to meet at the Nice train station, instead of our hotel. I called to ask what we should do, as we would not make it in time to the train station. The tour operator said the tour would continue without us. We could not get a replacement tour and they refused to give us a refund for their own mistake. That was more than $250.

Jaba, our tour guide AND driver, was absolutely remarkable and made the entire trip! He was an absolutely excellent, careful driver on some extremely windy country roads, and he was very knowledgeable about everywhere we went as well as other places in Europe. This trip stopped at several beautiful, small villages, and our driver knew all of the great lookout points on the passage from which to take the very best pictures. We stopped at the lavender fields last and, because it was so hot, I was so grateful that they knew of a private lavender farm. The pictures were absolutely unbelievable that we were able to take there and there was only the five of us in the whole field. We were able to shop afterward at the family gift shop. The boat ride at the Gorge de Verdon is absolutely worth every penny. This is definitely one of my all-time favorite day trips.

Our tour of the Provence region and the lavender fields was nothing short of magical, and a huge part of that was thanks to our wonderful guide, Jassem. From start to finish, he made the experience seamless, safe, and unforgettable. Jassem was a fantastic driver — navigating the winding roads with confidence and care, which made everyone feel at ease. His excellent English made communication effortless, and he shared so many interesting insights about the region, the lavender farms, and the history behind them. His commentary was not only informative but also full of warmth and personality — engaging, kind, and genuinely passionate about what he does. Jassem was attentive to everyone’s needs, whether it was helping with photos, answering questions, or simply making us laugh. We loved our day in Provence! Highly recommend!

Such a rushed tour, bad driving AND the driver got mad when I was only 5 mins late and only because I almost got stung by a wasp. He didn’t even care to ask me why but I could tell he was mad. So unprofessional, not tourist friendly like he should expect people are trying to take everything in, in such a short time. Didn’t give any information about the sights or where we’re passing through and expected people to hear/understand him. When we stopped at the lavender fields, he said we had 10-15 minutes, I saw the time we got out of the van was 2:18pm and at 2:25 he’s already telling us to come back like? On top of that, online it says 30 mins in the lavender fields. Like that is NOT okay. Rushed the entire day, mostly spent driving which was the worst thing ever since I get nauseous. Why are we in the car more than outside? Even though none of us wanted to swim I thought we’d still get to go on a boat. That didn’t happen either. He didn’t care for us to enjoy, didn’t care to tell us where to go or what to see. ‘This is the meeting point.” Just a big no for this entire tour because one of the reasons I came to france was to see the lavender fields, such a shame to have this experience. I’d rather rent a car on my own next time instead of doing something like this with this type of person. He shouldn’t be a tour guide. I just wanted to get it over with at a certain point and his demeanor didn’t help. Never had a tour like this, WORST experience ever.

Racecar reckless driving & too little time at the stops

The driving is horrible. It is over six hours of race car dangerous driving through windy roads that did not put you at ease to enjoy the beauty of the area. The itinerary was not fully kept to and everything felt rushed rushed, rushed. 45 minutes in Cassellane, 55 minutes in next town with lunch so no shopping in the market vendors rolled up their goods before we could finish our lunch to walk around if we had any time. For photo up places with no time really spent there no watching the processing of the lavender or time to swim or even take a boat ride at the lake. It seems for pretty much the same price. You could take a couple items out and offer a similar tour one with the lake experience and one without and cut out a few of the short stops such as the waterfall and slow down the driving a little and it would be much more enjoyable and relaxing. Also, the driver was not a tour operator and they were a driver would let us out and just say “meet me back here” no information about the area no information or recommendations in the towns. He was very polite and respectful however, of all the Viator tours I’ve gone on this has been the worst one.

We had a great day out with this tour! Our driver/guide, Alessandro, took us to all of the points and gave great information about each stop and even other towns/villages along the way. He also answered a number of our random questions. He was very helpful throughout and even took photos of us during the tour.

Disappointing day

This was not a good day from the start. Our driver was good at communicating that he would be late, due to waiting for a no-show customer, which put us almost an hour behind schedule. After which, the driver seemed to be trying to make up time driving very fast through curvy roads, which resulted in 3 of the 6 passengers feeling motion sickness. Also, it is poorly named: the Gorge is a quick 10 minute stop, and the lavender doesn’t typically bloom till mid to late June. We did see sites quickly, but the driver was a driver only: not a guide. We had about 2 1/2 hours on the ground, otherwise 7 hours of a roller coaster ride. We lost a chunk of money, and a day of our vacation. We will check the ratings a bit better and not chose those rated under 4!

This company doesn't care about your time or your money. Made a reservation for the 0800 tour. So my friend and I woke up at 0600 to ensure we arrived at the pick up location on time as the reservation stated. However, the time for pick up continued to get moved back. First, by 10 mins. Which was fine. Then, 30 minutes. Which is annoying but still doable. Then it was 40 minutes. Then an hour. Then I get an image that shows pick up as 0913. Their advertisement of the type was false and they had zero respect for other people's time. Then when they finally did show up we were stores to just be overjoyed, because at least they showed up. That is unprofessional and extremely disrespectful of those people whose time they just disregarded. I asked for my money back because why is it in for them to be over an hour late, but I probably would have been left had I been late at all. Viator confirmed my concern and requested all of this "evidence" to prove my claim... which I provided so my friend and I could receive our refund. Only to be told 2 days later that they couldn't do anything. 😑 I can almost guarantee that this happens often. I will never book this company or through Viator for any further travel events. It can't be difficult to run a honest and processional business.

Such a wonderful tour that help to explore the most beautiful countryside side of France . It is a long day over 10 hours but absolutely worth it . Castellane village and Moustlers Sainte Marle are surrounded by mountains and rocky cliffs and absolutely spectacular! Gorges du Verdon is an amazing deep canyon with the astonishing view ! Our tour guide and driver from Albania was very professional and help us to adjust to the motion sickness on the winding roads . Our guide went above and beyond to give us the best experience and he was able to maneuver through the winding roads while the strongest storm started in the if the day .

I loved this tour! It was a short group with only 5 of us - I enjoyed visiting the small villages along with the multi stops we did for the viewpoints - it was stunning! It is winding roads but this didn't impact me at all (I've never had issues with winding roads though) but it was a bit unconfertable at times haha but I enjoyed this day out! Our driver was Jack - he picked me up and was friendly throughout the whole day!

The most memorable part of my experience was the small town on our way to Provanve. Our guide also went above and beyond to give us great experience. Traffics was a big congested but the guide was able to maneuver through the congestion and still prove us with valuable information about the area driving by. It was an unforgettable experience

long day , driver a little crazy, drove too fast on those windy roads. most people got a little carsick, me a whole lot. driver insisted on playing his french music loud and singing along, charming for a little while , then annoying. driver tried to give information about the area but accent was very strong and hard to understand. he also left his window open often which reduced effectiveness of the air conditioning. like I said , the driver tried but I don't think this is the right line of work for him. Definitely need to warn people about highly likely possibility of motion sickness on this tour. the verdon gorge was beautiful and I enjoyed swimming there.
