We had a great experience on this tour with Ian. He is friendly, easy going, and very knowledgeable about all things Melbourne. We learned about the history of the city, saw many points of interest, and had a small enough group to really enjoy it. Ian even gave us some great dining recommendations! Highly recommend the tour and recommend you do it when you first arrive in Melbourne.

We had a really knowledgeable and fun guide that provided a well rounded look at history, cultural sites, good food places, and much more. I have a much greater appreciation for Melbourne and its' history, both native and colonial, art, food and much more.

This was a great way to spend three hours in Melbourne, a city to which my husband and I had never visited. Our tour guide Ian is, if I recall correctly, a lifelong Melbourne resident and has tons of knowledge about Melbourne that he imparted to us during our time spent with him. Besides being knowledgeable, Ian was affable and easy with whom to spend time. He made the tour both fun and factual. Great way to start off our brief visit to Melbourne!

Response from Host, Apr 2026

Thanks Suzanne! Ian is a great guide and I'm so happy to hear you had a lovely time with him. Thanks for coming on the tour and visiting this city we love so much.

Real Intimate intro to Melbourne

Jacques_S, Apr 2026
The experience was well worth the fee, seeing beautiful out of the normal tourist scenes. A d the tour guide (Deneile?) was very knowledgeable, friendly and entertaining. Ending with a drink (included) at Melville's was the perfect ending.

Response from Host, Apr 2026

Thans so much! Deneile is a legend and I'm so glad you enjoyed your time on her tour. :)

Uninspiring

ladybuggirls, Apr 2026
Although we saw CBD…It was a little boring. The guide was pleasant, but her anecdotes were unnecessary. She had good intentions. The delivery of information did not appeal to us. We went for coffee ,and drinks, but learned nothing interesting about why the place was chosen or any story behind it. Sometimes felt like we were walking aimlessly.

Response from Host, Apr 2026

Thanks for coming on the tour and taking the time to leave feedback. While we never like to see negative reviews, I do appreciate the opportunity to make our company better. I do want to be transparent with you: Emily is approaching her 100th tour with us and has not received a single negative review across that entire run. That's not something I say to dismiss your experience - everyone's experience is real and valid - but I would love to understand what went wrong on the day, because it's so at odds with the pattern I normally see. If you're open to it, please reach out directly at hello@depotadventures.com. I'd love to hear more and make it right if we can. Thanks, John O'Sullivan Depot Adventures

Incredibly informative and enjoyable tour of Melbourne CBD and laneways with fabulous guide, Beau. We learned SO much about the history about Melbourne and about the current city as well. His knowledge and passion really showed during our walk about and it helped change our approach to how we wanted to spend our time in Melbourne. We were SO VERY glad we started our time with this experience. It was absolutely incredible. And the cafe and pub stops were a plus!!!

Although it's 5 to 6 kilometres of walking it's , really a relaxing and easy pace . The three hours plus, goes quickly with the coffee break and free drink at Captain Melville's with meal options is great. We had Emily as our guide today. An absolutely lovely person, very knowledged and patient with the group as some of us would wander being photo happy. Totally two thumbs up for a great day.

Great Way to Start your Stay in Melbourne

Amy_M, Mar 2026
We did our walking tour with Emily - she was amazing and the tour was super informative and fun! She showed us so many different places. Wr went on the tour about 3 hours after landing in Melbourne so it was the PERFECT way to get a feel for the city. We learned so much and had a great time. Emily was absolutely lovely and gave us so many good recommendations and a map of our walk in case we wanted to go back to certain spots. Highly recommend you take this tour. You won't regret it!

Great over view tour

Great overview tour for your first time in Melbourne. You see alot and learn alot and know where to go next.

Great overview of Melbourne

Louise_C, Mar 2026
Our guide, Emily, was well prepared to discuss the history and culture of Melbourne. She took us to the back alleys that Melbourne is famous for. We got a good understanding of the graffiti displayed as well as the numerous restaurants and bars that dot these hidden laneways. We are travelling by cruise ship and only had 1 day to visit Melbourne. This tour was an excellent investment to introduce us to this beautiful and vibrant city. Would definitely recommend!!

Fantastic Guide for Melbourne

Mary_L, Mar 2026
We learned so much about Melbourne with our fantastic guide. She was enthusiastic, knowledgeable and did a great job navigating us through the streets and alleys/lanes of a busy, bustling city. We loved the nice touches of a Melbourne coffee at the start of our tour and a beer at a cool pub at the end of our tour! We would definitely recommend our guide!

Excellent tour despite the rain

Jillian_B, Mar 2026
Emily our guide was very passionate about Melbourne and that made a huge difference when she narrated the history of the city. It was a very informative tour with a great coffee stop and a beer at the end! We learned a lot about Melbourne that we had minimal knowledge of. We were also surprised to see that the company did keep it to a small group tour (which many companies say they will do but actually don’t) so we were in a group of nine which meant we were able to get to know our fellow group members. All in all a great tour that I would highly recommend.

Amazing tour

Stephanie_V, Feb 2026
Amazing walking tour of the highlights of Melbourne with Ian our tour guide! He gave us lots of detail of important places in the city and anecdotes that personalized the tour. We even took the tram to have the chance to see more including the national library.

Excellent way to start our time in Melbourne

Michael_G, Feb 2026
Fantastic overview of Melbourne city center that hit all the high points. Beau was an awesome guide!!

Melbourne tour at its best!

Michael_M, Feb 2026
Great review of Melbourne’s history and culture in an easy walking tour. Our guide, Bo, was very knowledgeable, easy going and humorous. Very attentive to all members of our group with plenty of time for questions. Lots of info and exploration of laneways. Unexpected surprise was a review of the types of coffees in Melbourne. Lovely trip to a pub with delicious lunch options. Wonderful group on our tour. Would highly recommend this walking tour!

Awesome experience

Chris_M, Feb 2026
We visited Melbourne on a cruise stop without knowing anything about the city. Emily did an amazing job showing us the highlights and giving us a ton of information and stories. A delightful tour!

Hidden Melbourne

Nick_W, Feb 2026
If you want to get off the beaten track and learn about hidden gems , then this is the tour for you. Great communication from tour operator regarding meeting point, with my partner and I jumping on tram as recommended by them. John our tour guide was overflowing with information on Melbourne giving a great insight into the city and culture. Won’t reveal too much you need to experience yourself.Highly recommended
