I probably had too many expectations...

Tina K, Oct 2016
I probably had too many expectations about this excursion. But I truly believe much more info needs to be given on the description of this trip. Day one was great, Mustapha was great in getting us to our van and seated in the front and made sure we had water for the trip. He even bought us espressos! Our driver was also outstanding, very safe, courteous, and kind. The issues I had with the excursion was the amount of time in the car, the hotel in which we stayed, the places we were shuffled in for lunches and the tent camp itself. Again, more information needs to be given with a detailed itinerary. You will be in the car a very LONG time 10 hour drive back on day 3. Day one is great as you get to see many cool sights. The hotel the first night is only ok and was more like a hostel and this needs to be mentioned, def no frills. The tent camp was very mediocre. The tents smelled awful and I mean awful musty, moldy, and oppressive - we slept with the door open. You are also expected to share tents which was NEVER mentioned but should be in the description of this trip. We had friends who did a similar excursion and saw their pictures, we were instantly jealous - gorgeous tent with candles and lanterns lighting your path, big bed, no tent sharing. The camel ride was great and so happy I didn't miss that but the camp needs a lot of help, especially catering to tourists. It should also be mentioned that you will see plastic bottles and garbage strewn about which makes me very sad since the dunes are stunning and should be respected. While the stops for lunch are efficient it's the same menu, over and over again. You're shuffled in like cattle with four to five other buses of tourists. I'd rather stop and be given a time to return rather than feeling forced to sit with others and eat repetitive foods. This excursion could be fantastic just attention to details and more info would have benefitted us greatly. It was a bit of a bummer.
