Tour was fine, AVOID suggested shopping experience

Tomasz_M, Apr 2026
We spent a day with Khaled, our guide on a private tour of Luxor’s East Bank. Khaled was our most competent, interesting, speaking very good English guide from all the guides we had experience with either in Cairo or Luxor. . However we still fell into a trap (his proposal) of purchasing and overpaying for our engraved names in silver(25 EUR/piece). A nice souvenir so I did not mind. However I recommend to AVOID any other shopping experiene hidden under some info session, e.g. 1. A marble production experience by o local ‘tribe’ is a total commercial scam of 45 sec intro and the shop visiting where you are pushed to buy sth. that is clearly highly overpriced. In addition we had a very unpleasant payment experience with double charging using 3 different payment terminals. It was a very suspicious situation. My suggestion is simply to avoid that place unless you have spare time. 2. ‘Spices shop’ another interesting place where they tried to sell us a 300g pack of dates for 30 (!!!) USD. We found exactly the same product in a local supermarket for 120 pounds ($2.5)!!! The spiecies were overpriced multiple times after ‘negotitiations’ and packaged in simple loose plastic bags so cannot even work as gifts back home. Overall guiding experience 4/5 (Khaled could have been more involved in guiding, comparing to other guides observed on site) and we spent 40% of the tour’s allocated time on a not-added value overpriced shopping experience with an attempt to double charge us.

Short tour with an interactive guide

Peter_D, Mar 2026
I give four out of five stars since although it was a good experience, I would probably opt for a taxi to get around and visit the sights myself if I could do it again. Other tour guides during our time in Egypt got in touch via WhatsApp a day before, but for this activity I had to reach out an hour before the pick up time as it still wasn’t confirmed. At the end, it went smoothly, albeit with a 15 mins delay. We visited three sights out of the six, as we were quite tired and our guide said the last three might not be as exciting as the first three. He gave basic but interesting pieces of history and culture, but honestly, I would have probably learned more if I simply asked ChatGPT once I was inside. I recommend if your preference is with an interactive guide, otherwise you can do the same for less with a taxi and your phone.

Good tour

Phillip_M, Feb 2026
Good tour guide, very relaxed in a crowded place but it was all very informative and interesting with as much time as you needed to look at everything. Half a day is enough to do this itinerary. Visited an alabaster shop.

Excellent tour as described

Jeremy_S, Feb 2026
We had an excellent guide who was very knowledgeable and went into detail about the sights we visited. A stop was made at an alabaster factory, which seems like a tourist trap, but it was low pressure; overall the tour was hassle free, as described, and very enjoyable.

Tour of valley of kings and much more

Great tour, packed lots in. Lots of information. Good communications beforehand. Picked up from ship.

Not a full day tour.

Sneha_H, Jan 2026
We had booked this tour expecting a full day of sight-seeing. The viator description of this tour stated that the tour would be 8 hours in length. Our tour lasted only 3 hours. It was very overpriced for what we experienced.

Good but not best service 😕

Yogesh_P, Jan 2026
Major letdown about Luxor tour. Guide was average, and we had to pay extra for major tombs like Tutankhamun's, Rameses and one other. For the price, we'd expect atelast the major tombs to be covered.

The trip was very nice and we got to see all the locations listed in the descriptions. Mansor was a great guide and very friendly.

Amazing

Daria_V, Jan 2026
We had an amazing full-day private tour with Hosney as our guide. Everything was perfectly organized from start to finish. He contacted us in advance via WhatsApp, explained all the details, confirmed the pickup time and location, and everything went exactly as promised. The tour itself was fantastic. Hosney has very good English and an incredible depth of knowledge. He explained not only what we were seeing, but also how the temples were built, how they were meant to function and why specific scenes are depicted in certain places. He even brought visual materials and pictures to help us better understand things we would never notice or understand on our own. What I really appreciated is that he actively engaged us during the tour, asked questions, and required our full attention, which made the experience much more interesting and immersive. It truly felt like a personalized experience — he clearly said that this was “our day” and that we could adjust anything we wanted along the way. Water was provided as described in the tour, and although lunch was not included, he took us to a great place with delicious local Egyptian food. We were very satisfied. Overall, this was one of the best tour experiences I’ve ever had. Highly recommended if you want a deep, well-structured, and truly private tour with a professional guide.

B_K, Jan 2026
The tour itself was average. They dint even take us to valley of queens, apparently because they take only limited entries. For sure valley of queens is mentioned in the tour and I paid for the ticket. If valley of queens is not possible, they should have mentioned it. A lot of history that the tour guide mentioned were lies.

We had an incredible and very packed day exploring Luxor’s West Bank. The itinerary included the Valley of the Kings, Valley of the Queens and several other fascinating stops. Both the driver and the guide were great. Our guide was extremely knowledgeable, sharing rich historical context and answering all our questions with patience and enthusiasm. The pace was full but well-organised, allowing us to see so much in just one day without feeling too rushed.

Anna_S, Jan 2026
We were guided by very kind and helpful Khaled who effectively moved around with us and shared main information about the monuments. He also kindly and honestly helped to arrange tickets for additional tombs for which additional tickets are needed. We give 4 and not 5 because we had the feeling that we were a bit rushed through all the places and the trip was much shorter than we expected (6 hours instead of 8 that are indicated in the description). We would have appreciated more time per place with more details about their history. Overall however we would recommend the trip because it allows to see the most beautiful places around Luxor.

Excelent tour. Recommendable. Moss the Boss is very knowledgeable and iteresting. Great way to spend arround 8 hours

Fine. Not the Best Not the Worst

Kelly_K, Jan 2026
Our Sudanese Egyptian guide H was good. He started out with spirit and vigor and care. He was always polite and patient. Our driver was always happy and gentlemanly. Overall I think the guide did a pretty decent job using a picture book to help us imagine the Kingdoms and describe the hieroglyphs' meaning. He even took a few pictures for us. But we dont care to see things like the pharaoh's toilet. He probably had more knowledge than he shared that day. Where we would have appreciated better service is the customization part. If we are paying for a premium private experience then the tour operator is responsible for reaching out regarding any itinerary changes and managing the logistics and time. For example, I asked if we should start earlier to squeeze in lunch and no one responded. The guide was lackadaisical about time. Yes "the day is ours" but please help us plan and keep us on track so we dont have to skip 2 sites. We were also not informed of the exorbitant cost and time it would take to visit Sety's tomb. We understand that you need to upsell but that ate up the schedule. We were also not made aware until afternoon that everything closes at 4:30pm. All of this could have been sorted out in advance had there been better planning and communication.

Be prepared for lots of time on your own!

Nancy_C, Dec 2025
Generally, ok tour. He customized it to my needs, which meant leaving out a destinations due to mobility. I wish they mentioned that Deir El Medina was not easy to get in as the guide said to me. I also wished the guide came into Hapshethup with me to explain what was what beyond the quick info he gave at the entrance before sending me off on my own. Other tour guides I overheard throughout talked about a baby on the wall, names along the door frame, and other things I might have wanted to learn about with my guide. He said he didn't like this place because it's renovated and not original. While true, I still wanted to know who were on the images, what story it told, why the number of columns/statues/etc, renovated or not. I don't know anything about Egyptian gods and pharaohs so even that would have been interesting! He said that I can ask anything. Well, if I don't know anything, how can I even begin to ask? He said to take photos and then he'll explain it to me later. I did of the baby and he has never heard about it. I Googled it and read it to him. Apparently, he had explained the soul and spirit to me beforehand but without the baby imagery. Hmm. He left me to explore on my own Medina Habu after a brief info walk around and sent me with the driver to Colossi Memnon without him. Hmm. Ok tour. Ok info. Not worth the money sadly.

Issues during West Bank tour

Kin_C, Dec 2025
The tour did not start very smoothly. The driver was 15 minutes late, though the tour guide was on time. Then the tour guide gave us the wrong itinerary. Luckily I anticipated this issue and had a print out of the itinerary. I was firm with the itinerary and the duration of the tour in order to get what I paid for. The tour guide said he mixed up our itinerary with the other groups he had. Our tour guide knows a lot about the historic sites in Luxor. However he was not very proactive in pointing out and explaining things to us. He did not even enter the Temple of Hatshepsut with us. Only after I mentioned several times to him that we paid for the tour in order to hear more about the history of the sites, then he started to provide more info. We also didn’t realise that we need to pay extra to visit the two famous tombs (costing extra 2700 EGP per person) in the Valley of the King. Even though doc from Viator stated that Admission Ticket Included, it only covered the lesser tombs (max of three). Note that this is not the fault of the tour guide. The guide became more attentive at the end and showed us more things. He also said that tipping was very important in his industry. Future visitors beware.

Worst agency in the world.

MARCOS_U, Dec 2025
Terrible experience; DO NOT HIRE THIS AGENCY. We had booked for one day and decided to change the date, so we talked to the provider using the Viator app, and they agreed and confirmed. Still, the day before the new date, I sent them a message to remind of the change; no answer. In the morning, the day that was agreed, nobody showed up. I texted them multiple times through the app, but nobody answered. We ended up doing the tour with a new guide, hired through the hotel. Eventually, the guide that was supposed to have come reached me through whatsapp and we agreed to do a new, shorter tour to see some specific sites that we had not visited (with the same exact price, of course). His work was fine, but the conduct of the agency was unacceptable. They haven't contacted me or even answered my messages to this day.

Exceptional.

Sourav_D, Dec 2025
Khaled was an experienced and brilliant guide with a lot of knowledge about Egypt, the temples, the kings, history and what not. He is also, what other tour guides lack, a great conversationalist. I loved spending the day learning from him. He took his time and he did not rush. I liked how he went out of his way to pay cash at various places when I had none so I could repay him later from an ATM. He also ensured that he dropped me off at Karnak temple which was not in the itinerary and gave me a brief on where to start, what to see, etc. I highly recommend him and this tour.

Perfect day

Barry was a wonderful guide. Great knowledgeable and conversation. Would have him again as my guide. Highly recommended.

A private guided tour to the major West Bank sites in Luxor led by an experienced, friendly and accommodating guide. Transportation in private car was comfortable and clean.

No knowledge, poor tour

Tour guide had no knowledge of sites, low English skills. Push for alabaster factories (don’t go). Constant rush. Driver was great and professional.

Akeemo_M, Nov 2025
This was a fantastic experience. Everything was clearly explained and very organised. The driver arrived exactly at the expected time and drove very safely(which is not guaranteed in Egypt). Barry was my tour guide and he patiently explained everything at each sure and answered my questions thoughtfully. I thoroughly enjoyed spending the day with him. He added so much personality to the experience and made me feel truly welcome in Egypt. By the end, it felt like I was just spending the day with my family. I also appreciate the layout of the tour and I was able to access every site that was advertised. Unfortunately, the tomb of nefertari is currently closed so that is beyond the the tour company's control. Book this tour and you won't regret it. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Great Tour with an Amazing Guide - Some Tombs Are Can't Miss So You Should Pay the Extra Fee

Michael_A, Nov 2025
Mohammed was an amazing tour guide. In fact, he was the best tour guide that my son and I had on our 6 tours in Egypt. He was extremely knowledgeable about everything we saw and he clearly loved the history of Egypt because you could hear his enthusiasm within his stories, and the level of detail was unmatched throughout our trip. Mohammed made the entire trip unforgettable by truly diving deep in the West Bank of Luxor for the entire day. He really went above and beyond at the last temple we went to (Ramses III temple) where he walked us through the entire story being told on the walls in pictures and hieroglyphs to give us a complete and in depth view of the reign of Ramses III. In the Valley of the Kings you're allowed to view 3 tombs on the ticket. I would highly recommend Ramses IV, Ramses III and Ramses IX on this included ticket. I would even more highly recommend you pay the additional fee to see Seti I, Tutankhamun and Ramses V/VI which are simply amazing. Seeing those 6 tombs will take about 1.5-2 hours and you'll get a good feeling for the art and beauty of all the tombs. Muhammad of course was understanding that we wanted to see extra tombs and even told us that he was with us "for our day", which reassured me that he had our satisfaction as his highest priority. I'd highly recommend this tour and this tour guide.

Disappointed

Theresa_W, Nov 2025
I booked this tour to see Deir el-Medina but the tour guide Hassan said it was $50 extra charge. When they dropped us off early I saw that my tour included tickets to Deir el-Medina. Also he insisted on buying the extra tickets for the Valley of the Kings and overcharged on those tickets too. We were only 2 ppl on the tour and I asked if we could change the order so that we could avoid the crowds but he insisted we had to start at Valley of the Kings in the morning when it was most crowded. We also had to stop at the alabaster factory on the way back.

Frustrating Experience: Missed Sites and Wrong Information

Evita_T, Nov 2025
I was disappointed with our tour experience. The guide did not bring us to the Valley of the Artisans, which was included in the itinerary. We only learned that we could go back when we were already downtown, and this information should have been communicated while we were still at the site so we could make an informed decision. Additionally, unlike other guides who stay with their groups throughout the tour, our guide often left us to explore the temples and tombs on our own while he waited in a café or shaded area. Lastly, some of the historical information provided was inaccurate. For example, when asked how long Ramses II ruled, he said 18–19 years, but according to information at Luxor Temple, Ramses II ruled for 66 years. Based on this, I do not feel Mr. Elsmaky demonstrated the expertise expected of a professional Egyptologist.

Not worth the price

Melvin_P, Nov 2025
It's not worth the price really....You would expect more information from a Egyptologist Guide as stated. I found a guide outside Karnak Temple providing more information with much cheaper price

Valley of the Kings

Yvonne_Y, Nov 2025
Both driver and guide were really friendly and accommodating. The tour was smooth and pick up efficient. Our guide was really knowledgeable about the valley and answered all our questions We had time to wander by ourselves as well. They were happy to drop us anywhere we chose in Luxor at the end of the day

A fun day trip in Lixor

Joel_B, Oct 2025
Khaled Elsmaky was a great guide. He was very knowledgeable and friendly. We had a great time and he helped us steer clear of scams on the street and in the gift shops.

The best possible experience I could have had in Luxor !

ANTOINEDIDIER_G, Oct 2025
Thank you to Reflections Travel and especially to my guide Mekhaiel for this high-quality tour! I really loved every part of the itinerary, especially the Valley of the Kings and the Temple of Medinet Abu. He was always attentive to my many questions 😆…and always smiling throughout the day. What's more, I had private air-conditioned transport, which was a big plus in the heat. I highly recommend them if you want to enjoy the western part of Luxor in peace.
