What are people saying about Abydos

Well worth a visit
Hieroglyphs and war scenes spectacular at Seti 1 temple at Abydos. Similarly at Dendaras. Far less tourists so not crowded. Good lunch at clean restaurant in Abydos, despite being in small village lane.

FULL day trip from Luxor
Long day, glad I wasn't driving. Only a few people, so plenty of space to wonder and take photographs. Abydos only had about 12 people there total. No wonder, the road through the town is horrific.

Fabulous day with Mena
Had a really amazing day with Mena who took us to Dendara for the day. Dendara is about a 90 minute drive from Luxor and totally worth it. No crowds , serene, pristine with a fabulous temple and loads to see. Mena was a great guide, fun to be with , extremely knowledgeable and we would highly recommend him!

Abydos
  • Abydos is a great choice for anyone who’d like to experience ancient Egypt without the crowds that can besiege Luxor’s big-ticket sights.
  • Excavations are still ongoing at Abydos, so some areas may be closed to visitors.
  • Archaeology buffs can spend many happy hours exploring Abydos: If this is you, consider doing Abydos and Dendera as separate trips.
  • The site offers modern restrooms and a café.
  • Travelers who rely on wheelchairs will need a helper to see much of Abydos, and the Osireion will remain off-limits.
