Amazing experience with a wonderful and knowledgeable guide. After a short trek into the jungle, we came upon a clearing with a small bamboo platform where we used machetes to fashion some cover from the rain. We then made our own cooking, eating, and drinking utensils from bamboo. The meal we prepped and cooked over open fire was exceptional. Highly recommend this experience if you're interested in traditional Lao cooking and bush skills.

Farm based outing in the countryside

    Sharmas_F, Dec 2025
Interesting activity, specially for city dwellers. Do note however that the listing incorrectly mentions gathering herbs and cooking in the forest, it's a farm based activity. Our guide Peng was excellent and being a farmer, had a good knowledge of the vegetables he was growing. Rice cooking in bamboo was a new experience for us. Overall enjoyable and peaceful setting in the countryside

    Great adventure!

I had to pay for two participants in order to book this, because there was no option for a solo traveler. I hope the extra I paid went to Peng as a tip. He did an excellent job and I had a great experience. I learned things that will come in handy later. It was a lot of fun!

    Magical cooking adventure jungle

    Luke_H, Jul 2025
What an incredible experience worth every cent! Our guide Pheng was very knowledgeable about all the local farms and villages were we got our food from. We harvested our fresh banana leaves, started fires from scratch, and cooked delicious sticky rice inside bamboo, a traditional way to cook rice which was very cool. We cooked deicious fresh fish from the Mekong and local chicken, had “bamboo chips”, some wild fruits we picked ourselves, and were shown how to make our own chopsticks and filter dirty water. This was overall an amazing trip and would recommend it to anyone wanting an adventure. The trip to the local village at the end was very nice as well, beautiful mountain and rice field views.

    Amazing jungle cooking

    Charles_W, Feb 2024
This was a fantastic and authentic experience and an absolute highlight of our 4 week trip in South East Asia. We were picked up in a Zebra striped Jeep and proceeded to the jungle via stop off routes along the way to collect ingredients for our cooking classes - this gave the journey there some real interest, and an understanding of the life of the produce farmers in Laos. Pang (our tour guide) also kept us entertained on the journey by pointing out various trees and vegetation - detailing how people use them for cooking, utensils and building materials (we had a quiz on the way back to check we remembered!). When we arrived in the jungle, we were escorted a short walk to the makeshift campsite, where we began preparation! This was just an unreal experience - from chopping up wood for the fire, to starting the fire, preparing our delicious food and making cups for drinking - we were very hands on, and this is expected which is great. As people say, the proof is in the eating…and the food was amazing. We even got to see wild buffalo going past whilst dining out! Pang explained everything along the way and was extremely attentive to us - he demonstrated the processes really well and we got the hang of things quickly with his supervision. Finally, we took a quick tour to the local village, which was a really nice end to the day. This is a MUST if you are in Luang Prabang for several days and want a proper experience!

A cooking adventure off the beaten track

This was an awesome experience to learn authentic cooking and survival skills from a Khmu tribesman. We spent a lovely time with Peng who taught us how to prepare traditional food, make bamboo utensils and even a trap using materials from the forest. Highly recommended for those who want a cooking adventure off the beaten track - the food was delicious!
