A great tour with an informative guide that customized the trip to our liking, I definitely recommend this tour for anyone visiting Bolivia.
Rachal_R, Dec 2024
We enjoyed that this tour offered a unique way to see Tiwanaku and Lake Titicaca in the same day with a ~12 hour tour. This tour definitely felt off the beaten tourist path, we didn’t see any other tourists other than a few at Tiwanaku. At Tiwanaku we spent 2.5 hours with a local guide, which was interesting though a little longer than we needed and we needed to tip the local guide separately. We also visited a deserted hacienda which was interesting, a few viewpoints of the countryside, and a few local spots along Lake Titicaca on the Taraco peninsula, one of which offered a short boat ride on the lake with a sweet local driver. Lunch was at a family run restaurant in Tiwanaku. We enjoyed the sights of the tour and the American guide was very informative with Bolivian history and current culture. We only docked some stars from the rating because the guide and driver consumed multiple bags of coca leaves and stopped for smoking breaks, they seemed somewhat under the influence. We didn’t necessarily feel unsafe riding in the car but it was a little unsettling at times.

I gave you my number. If you need any help while in Bolivia feel free to give a call. As an American I will do anything to ensure the safety of my fellow countrymen.
Try working a 13-14 hour day driving people out to lake Titicaca, at altitude yourself sometime. This is Bolivia, we chew coca, I am sick to death of Americans who believe every country should display the exact same behavior as the United States. If you have a problem with indigenous Bolivians, who all chew coca, don't come here. This is not the United States... (thank God)
Kind regards,
Caleb
Every bad review I have received in the last 12 years has come from an American. Is it that you feel entitled because I am another American? BS
Jennifer_D, Dec 2024
Awesome tour! Caleb and Carlos were amazing. We really enjoyed the tour and the conversation.
We learned a lot of history while seeing the sites.
Highly recommend.

Horrible. Everything all around horrible and stupid. Driver drove like a maniac. The guide drank the whole time (morning to sundown) and chewed cocoa leaves with baking powder. It doesn't make you a "local" it makes you a crackhead. Didn't feel very safe many times.

I tried to find a Roger M. in my bookings over the course of the last several months. I could not. I'll have a beer with my clients during lunch. But what you are saying is a lie, and you are a liar trying to negatively affect my business. I might remind you that slander with the intent to negatively affect someone's business is a crime in most countries. The only explanation I can think of is that you are an uptight American who didn't agree with something I said and decided it was your "duty" to "cancel" me.

As an avid traveler that's been to over sixty countries, I'm usually skeptical of tours that pre-package everything into one day, but I decided to take this tour as it worked with my short time schedule. I will say this tour exceeded my expectations and more. We visited some incredible sites and several off-the-beaten path places I wouldn't have been able to get to without our tour guide's knowledge. Caleb was very informative and knew his history. He was also able to explain it in a way that was digestible and relatable to a foreigner without much prior knowledge of the area and its past. As you are in Bolivia (not as developed of a country as let's say parts of Western Europe for comparison) expect the tour to be a bit more rustic in nature. That's part of the beauty of it! I highly recommend!

Enjoyed tiwanaku very much
Wish we had an English speaking guide for lake titocaca. It was beautiful.
The driver was fantastic
Response from Host, Jun 2024
We are glad you enjoyed your tour. Because the booking was received on very short notice we were not able to connect you with an English speaking guide for the lake. My apologies for this inconvenience.
Kind regards,
Caleb

I was unable to go on the tour as scheduled. The guide called me 30 minutes to an hour after our intended start time to say the tour had to start late or be rescheduled. He did try to work with me on times and other days but I already had other things scheduled so it didn't work out. He stated he had been having car issues and issues with Viator as well. This tour has great ratings and I understand issues arise but I missed out on a day of vacation because of this.
Response from Host, Jun 2024
I apologize for this, but the responsibility lays with Viator. Because their system was attacked through a phishing scam I did not have access to my account for days. Viator refused to allow me access to my account despite pleading with them, and finally gave me your phone number after being on the phone with them for two hours. I didn't even know about the booking until after the tour started.
My advice is to book directly with us in the future. We pay out 25% commission for a company that relies heavily of AI chatbots and has declined in quality of service over the years, since being purchased by TripAdvisor. info@ my businesses name, solacetrekkingandtours .com and you can find out about some great locations we offer tours to which are not listed here. I spoke to you directly, and you were very understanding, and informed me there was no option to remove this review. I am contacting Viator, as this affects my star rating, which is 4.5 stars instead of 5 now. This hurts my business for no fault of my own.
Kind regards,
Caleb
Again sir, I am very sorry this happened

Caleb was an extraordinary guide, very knowledgeable and passionate about Bolivia and its history. He was able to show sites and offer inclusions that only a local would know which was a great experience. The destinations were incredible as well as the restaurant we visited. Caleb was very flexible with timing and multiple location stops throughout the day. Highly recommend this tour!
Samuel_R, Oct 2023
Great tour, Caleb is very passionate and knowledgeable about Bolivia. He went out of his way to make sure we were comfortable and had a great trip. He asked us what we were interested in to make the tour was personable and he made some stops along the way to show us great viewpoints that we otherwise wouldn't have seen. Just a heads up, he is definitely a character, so be prepared for a unique experience.
Veronica_F, Aug 2023
Caleb was extremely personable and has lived an extraordinarily interesting life, his storytelling in tandem with the history of the La Paz region meant there was never a dull moment. Since he's lived in Bolivia for the past 12 years he knows the locals very well, he would pass people on the street he knew... in fact we met up with another local who was kind enough to give us a boat ride on Lake Titicaca. Lunch was a superb cookout on the lake and the star of the show Tiwanaku was incredibly cool to see. Definitely recommend this tour!
Wayne_B, May 2023
This personalised tour is excellent value. Not only do you get to experience a taste of the real Bolivia but you get to hear first-hand what it is like to live there. This full day takes you to many places that regular tourist tours would not go, and as such, is worth consideration. I returned to my hotel full of new and interesting memories and experiences, and hopeful to return one day to see more of this fascinating country. Highly recommended.
Andrew_K, Feb 2020
This tour was by far one of the most interesting tours, I've ever taken. What made this tour so unique was not just the sites (Lake Titicaca & Tiwanaku), it was the tour guide himself (Caleb). The guide was extremely knowledgeable in the history and culture of the sites, and he also included lots of information about the Bolivian people. Some of the best parts of the tour was the journey to the sites. I feel like I got to see parts of the Bolivian country side that most tourists do not get to see. I took this tour just before departing Bolivia, but had I'd known, I would have booked all my tours through this company.
Daniel_T, Dec 2018
This was an excellent tour off the beaten path. Our guide was extremely knowledgeable about all things Bolivia, not just the sights we were seeing. The local guide at Tiwanaku also was extremely knowledgeable and friendly. This was a great tour that not only allowed us to see the ruins of Tiwanku and a part of Lake Titicaca less frequented by tourists, but we also got to see a side of Bolivia that many tourists don't get to see with large groups.
Cleon P, Jun 2017
Great day trip. The tour at Tiwanaku with the English speaking tour guide was great! The driver did a great job including preparing lunch at the lake. Although he couldn't speak much English we had a great conversation in broken Spanish/English over lunch. Highly recommended!
Joanna S, Jan 2017
The guide was knowledgeable but had a very negative perspective on the tiwanaku ruins. Understandable because of the current state of the site but it made it difficult to enjoy the day.
Perhaps take one of his other tours.
becky_t, Sep 2016
Was a good day trip. English speaking guide, Oscar, usually doesn't go out where we were and he did and the trip was well worth it for a day. Going out of the city was our goal. You don't see much but land and topography that Bolivia has to offer. Enjoyed it.
MRJL_H, Jul 2016
Caleb is very knowledgeable and showed us things we would never have found on our own.
Adam T, Apr 2016
A good day trip from La Paz. Tour guide is extremely knowledgeable about the area and will take you to a great, secluded place at Lake Titicaca. You will also be taken off the usual tourist route and shown some more traditional ways of life around Bolivia. Tiwanaku ruins are interesting but there is much to be discovered yet.
Joseph B, Apr 2016
Solace Trekking and Tours when out of their way to assure this was a great tour. The total day was an adventure from the traffic of El Alto to the shores of Lake Titicaca. Highly recommended tour and company.
Clare H, Feb 2016
Excellent - a real personalised experience, off the track of the usual tourist trail. Lunch was a homemade chorizo roll eaten in a secluded spot by Lake Titicaca, and the whole trip was enlived by the knowledgeable narration of the tour guide. Highly recommended for anyone looking for a day trip that isn't a bus crammed to bursting on the same route as everyone else.
Daniela_C, Oct 2024

- Barton
- Hank

Fuimos felices! Recomendado al 100!
