The ATV tour was an awesome experience! The tour guides were helpful and knowledgeable. Definitely recommend the three hours. The trip to the Volcanic flows from the eruption of 1968 was a must see. We even saw an Eyelash Viper. We even stopped a long the way to try sour fruit and learn about indigenous tribes in Costa Rica. Overall a great experience!

What a fun way to see the jungle! My teenagers absolutely LOVED this! Highly recommend. Bring a raincoat jacket/poncho. The ride thru the water will be a core memory. Guides were kind and helpful.

What an amazing experience! Highly recommend! Thrilling (yet safe). The waterfall stop was perfect! Bring a raincoat jacket and/or poncho. Super fun!

Great experience! Absolutely pay for the extra time to go to the volcano. We had a blast and would recommend to anyone traveling to the La Fortuna area.

Had a great time! The tour guides were kind and patient. It also included stops for pictures and to meet members of the indigenous community. The ride was definitely beginner friendly as well.

We expected to get muddy but we didn’t so if you’re looking to get muddy this will not be your place. I did however loved the whole experience, they gave us pineapple, we rode through a small river and enjoyed getting wet.

Everyone raved but it’s was a horrible experience. I think because we also booked the 3pm tour which is the last one they offer. The guides only spoke to us for a total of 5 minutes to teach us how to drive the ATV and then nothing after. We went to where we could get into the water and was told we had 10 minutes and only 5 minutes in the guide was telling us it was time to go. Everyone mentioned getting pineapple in the comments which wasn’t a make or break deal for us but we didn’t get any. We went to Rio Celeste the day after and realized it was the same exact route to this waterfall that they take us on. Not worth it for us, not very friendly or at least the guides we had just did not seem to be happy. Very sad we were totally looking forward to this part of our trip.

Good evening Nadia.
Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We are truly sorry to hear that your experience did not meet your expectations.
Our ATV tour is designed for guests who are looking for an authentic off-road adventure. The main focus is on riding through the rainforest, crossing rocky and muddy trails, with short scenic stops for photos and to enjoy the surroundings, while maximizing the time spent driving the ATV. It is not intended to be a sightseeing tour with long stops, but rather an exciting 4x4 adventure.
That said, we sincerely appreciate your comments, and we will carefully review what happened during your tour. It is very unusual for us to receive feedback like yours, especially regarding the interaction with our guides. We strive to provide every guest with a friendly, professional, and memorable experience, so we are concerned to hear that you felt otherwise.
Regarding the waterfall stop, our standard itinerary allows enough time for guests to enjoy the location, and we will investigate why you felt rushed. We will also review the situation regarding the pineapple, as this is something we normally include when conditions allow.
We are genuinely disappointed that we did not deliver the experience you were expecting. Our goal is to offer one of the best ATV adventures in Costa Rica, and feedback like yours helps us improve and ensure we continue providing the high-quality service our guests deserve.
Thank you again for your comments, and we wish you all the best.
My best regards.
Outback Team.

I really enjoyed this experience, I would say if you are an experienced rider seeking thrills this may slightly let you down. It’s more geared towards all experience levels but the journey and views are incredible. You definitely get your money’s worth in the length of the journey and amount of sites.

This ATV experience was awesome! Luis was a great tour guide and very knowledgeable! It was down pouring for a majority of the tour and it made it even better!!

Worth the upgrade for the extra hour tour. Amazing experience our guide was great. Got to see a lot of nature local places
Kveon_H, Jun 2026
I don’t really think they care about you having fun. I believe they care more about profit than the customers experience. Also u can’t even use your phone to record anything so no pictures for memories they are way too strict it’s like you’re back in school. They say no no to every little thing u do wrong.
Marcus_F, Jun 2026
Luis & Frank gave us a 10/10 experience. Honestly was more than I was expecting and asked for. Very fun and lots of sightseeing and opportunity to take pictures. Fresh pineapple was also served. Thankful for everything! I highly recommend to anyone considering. You will not regret it.

We had the best day with Junior and Carlos!! Definitely take the 3 hour tour- the view of the volcano was incredible!!

We booked the experience for a double atv, my husband and myself. We were given a single atv to share. It was very difficult to maneuver the atv with both of us. We could not complete the tour due to the increased difficulty. A van had to pick us after 20 minutes. One of the guides was very condescending; going as far as to ask me am I sure I've ridden an atv before.
When I booked the tour, there was no option to book 2 single atvs or an utv. We (along with another couple) asked if we could switch to 2 single atvs or an utv ( we were willing to pay a price difference) but was told they were not available.

Good afternoon.
Dear customer.
Thank you for your time writing the review, We do not like, and we do not work this hard to receive this type of reviews, but it usually happens when our clients are not able to complete the tour.
We would like to inform you that our entire fleet is the same; there is no difference between a single or a double unit. We operate the largest and most powerful machines on the market, Yamaha Kodiak 450cc 4x4, with capacity for two people and a load capacity of 330 lbs.
The reason you were unable to maneuver the vehicle was not due to the equipment, but because you were not able to control the machine, which is something beyond our control. For your safety and the safety of other clients, our safety protocols were activated and your reservation was canceled.
We respect your comment; however, we would like to inform you that at all times you were provided with the same level of service as the rest of the participants. Nevertheless, your safety will always be our top priority in our company.
We appreciate your understanding.
My best regards.
Alonso Gazo.
Manager.

Amazing experience with the option to add a second atv trail through the local national park which was well worth it for the trails alone!
Wanda_E, May 2026
Brace yourself for an adventure you’ll never forget! Prepare to get wet & dirty! We added the volcano hike to our tour which was well worth the extra $40. The view is amazing! A must do activity to really embrace the culture.

We had an awesome experience with Outback ATV! Riding through the Arenal rainforest alongside the volcano was absolutely incredible and something we’ll never forget. Blake was fantastic to work with — very responsive with communication and made everything easy from start to finish. It was also my daughter’s 21st birthday, and the team went the extra mile to make it feel special, which meant a lot to us. Great people, amazing scenery, and an unforgettable adventure. We definitely recommend this place!

Carlos_A, Apr 2026
Good experiences with good staff and nice ride, only problem I saw is the quads have no stop lights and needs to be updated
olya_s, Apr 2026
Amazing! If you have KIDS read it fully:)
I loved this experience and the guides are always checking on you, and always ready to help. They are full of positive energy and always ready to share with you whatever they know. The route is great, on same areas of the road the driving speed is a bit high ( around 35-38), but not all the time; and we added extra time for an additional route, so worth it!! And cool to see volcano closer. Amazing! I feel like I will do the same trip next time I am in Costa Rica!! My whole family loved it.
If you have KIDS, and they are on the younger side, I think its better if they sit in front of you. My son (7 years old) almost fell down, when my husband was going uphill, but he grabbed him. Daughter (9) did totally fine and she could hold herself on the side rails. Both of my kids loved it, just make sure they are strong enough to hold on the rails, when they sit behind you, as some parts of the road (especially one- it is pretty uphill).
Thank you! Great experience. And really recommend it!

We are an adventurous family and this was not adventurous as expected.
Guides were fantastic and the stop along the river was fun with fresh fruit. However the majority of the trip is riding an ATV on a regular road with traffic. Guides made you feel very safe but not the actual experience we were looking for. Better for people wanting a casual ride on an ATV
Response from Host, Apr 2026
Good afternoon.
Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback with us.
We’re really glad to hear that you enjoyed our guides and the river stop with fresh fruit—that means a lot to our team. At the same time, we truly understand your disappointment regarding the level of adventure you were expecting.
For safety reasons, our routes and trails are carefully selected to minimize risks and avoid accidents. This is why certain sections of the tour may include safe roads. Our top priority is always the well-being of our guests, especially when families are involved, and we aim to provide a safe experience for all skill levels. However, it is important to take into consideration that the times we used public roads were simply to connect the different locations visited during the tour, which you enjoyed—for example, the volcano viewpoints, the river, and other highlights.
For this reason, a valid driver’s license is required for our tour, as accessing the main attractions of the rainforest involves traveling along these connecting public roads. These are secondary roads, not highways, and they also offer scenic views and beautiful countryside farms along the way.
We do offer different styles of tours, and some are more focused on scenic and relaxed riding rather than extreme adventure. Your feedback is very valuable, as it helps us better communicate the nature of each experience and continue improving.
Thank you again for your comments, and we hope to have the opportunity to welcome you back in the future on a tour that better matches the level of adventure you’re looking for.
Kind regards,
Outback ATV Tour Team

Traveled with 2 kids ages 7 and 9. All staff were great!! Even let my son sit behind the leader so he could be towards the front. However, the tour itself was misleading. We were expecting it to be much more adventurous. The pictures depicted mostly ATV inside the trees/dirt road or through water. About 1/2 of the tour is on a regular paved road with cars passing you or behind you only for you to get a look at the volcano. Then about a 10 min stop with indigenous people. The female was basically wearing a costume over her clothes, with a bored look on her face and gave very little effort with showcasing the different aspects of the culture. Extremely touristy part of the trip.
The amount of people on the trip was about 15 in our group.
Again, we felt like it was not actually as adventurous as it was made to believe. If you are looking for a casual atv with 10-20 mins of trails/adventure then this is good.
Response from Host, Apr 2026
Good afternoon.
Thank you very much for your detailed feedback and for choosing to tour with us and your family.
We’re truly happy to hear that you had a positive experience with our staff and guides, and that they made your children feel comfortable and included—this is something we really value.
At the same time, we sincerely regret that the tour did not meet your expectations in terms of adventure. We understand how the experience may have felt different from what you anticipated based on the photos.
We would like to clarify that the sections on public roads are necessary to connect the different locations included in the tour, such as the volcano viewpoints, the river, and other scenic spots within the rainforest. These roads are secondary routes (not highways) and are chosen carefully to ensure both safety and access to the main attractions. For this reason, a valid driver’s license is required. Our priority is always to provide a safe experience, especially for families with children, while still offering a mix of adventure and sightseeing.
Regarding the cultural stop, we truly appreciate your honest comments. We are sorry it did not feel as authentic or engaging as expected. Your feedback is very important, and we will share it with our team as we continuously work to improve the experience we offer.
As for the group size, we do our best to manage groups in a way that maintains safety and organization while still allowing guests to enjoy the tour comfortably.
We understand that our tour may feel more suitable for those looking for a moderate or scenic ATV experience rather than an extreme adventure, and we will continue working on better communicating this to avoid any misunderstandings.
Thank you again for your feedback. We truly appreciate it and hope to have the opportunity to welcome you again in the future on an experience that better matches what you are looking for.

So much fun! I had never driven an ATV before so I was a bit nervous but got the hang of it really quickly. Everything is well organized and instructions are very clear. There's nothing crazy about the ATV ride other than the terrain at some points, but you go at slow speeds so it's perfectly safe for families (my husband and I drove our own with our kids on the back). I wish we could have gone faster, but this is not a thrill ride, more of a sightseeing type of ATV ride that is very tame. The tour includes a short hike up to Arenal volcano which is HARD if you are not physically active and not wearing the right shoes. My husband and I did ok but it certainly got our heart rate up. My teenage son breezed through it while my teenage daughter really struggled. I saw some folks in the wrong shoes who were struggling as well. Recommend wearing hiking shoes for this activity and being ready to make a steep climb at the end to the top of the volcano. The hiking part is only 10-15 minutes long. Most is paved except the very end where you need to climb up rocks to make it to the top. The view is incredible and worth the effort.

You need to do it with this company, they are on time when they pix you up and the guided tour is 5 stars
vlyballgal, Mar 2026
If you like to be adventurous this tour is for you. We took the ATVs on dirt roads, regular roads, through water and we even added an optional upgrade to go to see the volcano rocks. Once you get to a certain spot on the volcano trail, you do have to walk up a steep hill, but it is not bad. Once you get to the top you can see a great view of the volcano and some of the lava rocks left behind from the eruption. I highly recommend this activity if you like off-roading. Just lift your feet up when going through the water and your shoes won't get wet.
