The ATV tour was an awesome experience! The tour guides were helpful and knowledgeable. Definitely recommend the three hours. The trip to the Volcanic flows from the eruption of 1968 was a must see. We even saw an Eyelash Viper. We even stopped a long the way to try sour fruit and learn about indigenous tribes in Costa Rica. Overall a great experience!

You need to do it with this company, they are on time when they pix you up and the guided tour is 5 stars

If you like to be adventurous this tour is for you. We took the ATVs on dirt roads, regular roads, through water and we even added an optional upgrade to go to see the volcano rocks. Once you get to a certain spot on the volcano trail, you do have to walk up a steep hill, but it is not bad. Once you get to the top you can see a great view of the volcano and some of the lava rocks left behind from the eruption. I highly recommend this activity if you like off-roading. Just lift your feet up when going through the water and your shoes won't get wet.

Absolutely loved it. My kid was my buddy and she loved it. Would absolutely recommend it to families and adults.

Very friendly and experienced guides and front desk reception. Beautiful scenery and just what we expected. I would do it again if I'm ever in the area.

This was a very nice tour you went everywhere and you really was off road not just on the street I mean through water up hillside down hillside over here rocks and the guide was friendly ☺️ just an all around good time 10 out of 10 I do recommend 👏🏽👏🏽

This was my first time in Costa Rica. My family and I prepaid for multiple trips and ATV Arenal was one of them. The company emailed us saying that before the trip, we can upgrade our tour to see a volcano a little closer and have more fun with ATVs. The upgrade was $40 per ATV. The whole experience was amazing we had so much fun.
Manasi_V, Mar 2026
A great tour with a good mix of adventure and relaxed sightseeing. Be sure to bring a bathing suit as they allow some time to swim in a small river and cool off. Tour guides were very nice and patient, highly recommend!

The guys put on a great ride and were very cool to talk with. The mud pits and river crossings were the bomb!!

Soooo much fun. We had a blast - I like riding as the passenger as I could look around and take pictures. Opt for the extra hour it’s well worth it. Bring a rain poncho!
David_M, Feb 2026
Emphasis definitely on exploration as opposed to adrenaline - you don’t get going too fast and the ATVs. That said, beautiful views, steep climbs, and enjoyable stops involving learning more about indigenous people to Costa Rica and swimming. Overall a good experience!
Anton_B, Feb 2026
Amazing experience! The organization was smooth, the locations to ATV were well chosen and gave a range of difficulty from flat roads to steeper and muddier paths. The team looks out for riders’ safety when crossing or travelling on roads. The additional hour that was offered to us after the initial 2 hour booking was well worth it.
Valerie_B, Feb 2026
Amazing ride, beautiful scenery and views, fun times with friends and kids, they loved it, great guides!
Niels_J, Feb 2026
Very enjoyable afternoon for the whole family. Rough terrain but that was expected. ATVs and guides were up to the task. Definitely recommend.
Christina_K, Feb 2026
This was an incredible way to explore the area! The guides were great and it was clear that safety was of high importance to them. If you have the opportunity to add additional paths or hikes, I highly recommend doing so! The final paths (extra) were so much fun and worth it. The views at the end of the hike (extra) were unmatched.
Shelby_F, Feb 2026
So much fun! They offered an “upgrade” which was more adventurous and included a small hike which was well worth the extra $30
Alexandre_D, Feb 2026
Tour was boring, no wildlife exploration, can't go fast, no atv fun trail. We were driving the ATV on the road. Not able to see the Volcano due to weather. Complete waste of money 🙂

Good afternoon.
Alexander.
We appreciate the time you took to share your comments. However, we must let you know that safety and our commitment to the environment are our top priorities. For this reason, an adrenaline-focused tour with a driver who is not responsible for other participants and who is not concerned about nature is not the type of tour we are interested in offering.
If you are looking for an adrenaline tour where you can drive very fast and disregard the rules during the tour, then our guided experiences are definitely not for you. Our main commitment is safety and the protection of our environment. We are in the rain forest and we cannot control the weather, unfortunately the volcano been cloudy during your stay in Arenal. Wildlife is free, we cannot guarantee you can see animals everywhere, I feel sorry for your wrong expectations in our guided experiences.
Our experience is designed as a guided nature adventure, not as a high-speed adrenaline tour. While part of the route includes a paved public road, this section is necessary to safely connect different off-road trails and private farm areas within the forest. It is not intended simply to “go fast,” and our guides always regulate speed to maintain safety and respect for the surrounding community and environment.
My best regards.

The experience was fine until we fell off the ATV going uphill on an uneven slope
, got hurt, and were charged for “damages” to the vehicle. The charges would have been understandable had the ATV overturned but we were charged for a ‘crack’ to a plastic part of the vehicle which did not make contact with anything. I would be cautious booking this experience as an English-speaking traveller as the operator seemed to be very preditorial.

Good afternoon.
Aliyah.
Thank you for the time writing your personal experience. Let me explain you again our opinion about this complaint.
As with any adventure activity—especially an ATV tour—incidents or accidents may occur. In this case, damage was caused to the vehicle during the tour, and a charge equivalent to only 10% of the total repair cost ($141) was applied, in accordance with the rules and responsibilities that were clearly explained and accepted before the activity began.
We regret that this situation caused discomfort.
We do appreciate that in your own comment you acknowledge that the tour was fine. Our priority is always the safety of our guests, compliance with our rules, and the proper care of our equipment.
The vehicles are new and the repairs aren't cheap, so it's important to drive well.
The word predatory is not correct, because all we did was charge for the damage you caused to our vehicle.
Pura vida!!!

Really enjoyed this experience. The guides were super friendly and gave great instructions for properly operating the ATV riding. I felt safe during the tour and i’m glad they emphasized that this tour isn’t about speed and adrenaline but it’s more so about exploring.

You'll get wet. It always seems to rain here. It was very good, plenty of thrills, yet doable for complete novices.
Gregg_M, Jan 2026
Very well organized, safe and good guides. A lot of thrilling fun!
I would highly recommend this activity and is value for the money.

We had a fantastic time on this trip. I went with my partner and our 2 kids aged 11 and 13. We traveled through the forest, along the roads and to the bottom of Arenal Volcano. We loved it. I would highly recommend this experience.
Ive_C, Jan 2026
It’s not as adventurous as they make it sound, but we had so much fun. The path is pretty tame, and the ATV is easy to maneuver. The end game gave us some beautiful views and we throughly enjoyed our morning. Great for a lowkey day on which you just want something to occupy a few hours. Would do it again
Nicole_S, Jan 2026
this was so much fun!!! they picked us up right on time from our airbnb and even returned us home. Nelson was our guide and he was the absolute best. the fresh pineapple was amazing and the views were incredible!!!

The trip was wonderful. The guides were very friendly and knowledgeable. We took the 2-hour tour which was perfect for us. We were even lucky enough to see a sloth.

We booked a 2 hour experience, and the tour operator even confirmed that it was a 2 hour experience the day before, as well as when we checked in. The tour was supposed to start at 10am but we started to ride on the ATVs at 10:20 after waiting with no update on when we would start. They told us to come 15 minutes before the excursion started so I was waiting from 9:45 until 10:20 to even sit on the ATV. The tour had multiple stops and the ATV riding was slow. The tour ended around 11:40 to which I was very confused because if I booked a 2 hour tour, shouldn’t it have at least ended at 12pm? I even asked the person at the desk after we got back if there was anything else because it seems like we finished a bit early. He acted surprised and just joked and said “oh you guys must have been fast drivers” …what does that even mean? We were following behind the guide the whole time. And on top of that, they tried to trick me out of another $40 to add an extra hour on to my trip, making it a 3 hour excision. Imagine if I paid the extra money, maybe it would have been the full 2 hours that I originally paid for.
Anyways, the excursion was ultimately a fun time but not worth the money. There’s probably better ATV tour companies in La Fortuna.

Hello Sarah.
We truly appreciate your comments and the time you took to share your feedback with us.
High season anywhere in the world can cause delays, not necessarily due to us as operators, but because some clients arrive late, there is heavy traffic, among other factors. These situations are beyond our responsibility. What is our responsibility is to deliver the tour exactly as described, and that is what happened in your case. We departed a few minutes late, but we also returned later, and the tour was completed 100%. We have different tours, the most popular is Jungle and Malekus and The Discovery Adventure. We imagine that you were expecting a two-hour tour without stops, focused solely on driving, without the opportunity to enjoy the places we visit, such as the Arenal River, the Maleku Indigenous Village, and the volcano views from the mountain where we stop to take photos.
Our tour is clearly described, including all the locations where we stop and the sites we visit. The description does not indicate that it consists of two continuous hours of riding without stops. That type of tour does not exist at Outback, as our guided experiences are unique and designed for nature and adventure lovers. It is not just about riding an ATV.
When the tour extension was offered, it was to give you the opportunity to ride longer and visit the lava fields of the volcano, which we are the only company allowed by law to access the highest permitted area of the volcano. Unfortunately, you missed this opportunity.
We hope that on another occasion you will choose to book a private and personalized tour. With this option, you can decide whether to make stops or not and focus exclusively on riding without stopping to visit any locations.
We will be happy to welcome you on your next vacation so you can enjoy a private tour tailored to your interests. There is no better or safer tour than Outback Adventures in Costa Rica, which is why we are the largest and leading ATV tour company in the country. Pura Vida!!!

I found the advertisement for this tour was very misleading. This ATV tour was boring. We spent most of our time on public roads. The stop off at the local "village" was basically a store where they wanted you to purchase goods. Last I checked local villages don't have credit card machines. Lol. The add said come get wet and dirty with us, we only had a chance to get wet n muddy, the last minute of the tour. Literally the last minute where we drove through two small water spots. The tour was supposed to start at 1:00, we didn't end up leaving until around 1:45 due to how disorganized they were getting everyone together. They said that water was included, but what that meant was Luke warm water from a cooler at our starting point. Disappointing
Response from Host, Jan 2026
Hello Danielle.
We truly appreciate your comments and the time you took to share your feedback with us.
The tour takes place in Costa Rica’s rainforest; however, we had several sunny days, which caused the trails and roads to be dry. As a result, there was not much mud, but there were incredible views of the volcano, perfect weather to swim in the Arenal River, and the opportunity to enjoy the Maleku indigenous experience.
Hydration and fruits are included in the tour. We believe your expectations may have included meals; however, meals are not part of this tour. We understand that you may have expected a tour with fewer people, but we operate the largest ATV tour operation, and therefore we handle a high volume of guests at our office at all times.
If you prefer more privacy or a tour with fewer participants, we recommend booking a private tour, where you can choose the scheduled with no more people sharing a tour with you.
Jarette_H, Dec 2025
We really enjoyed this ride. One thing to note, there is a hike involved that is not mentioned upon booking. We enjoyed going up, but a heads up would have been great. Overall we would book with them again.
Melanie_H, Dec 2025
This was a fantastic ATV experience. Our guide David was so nice and kept us all safe but still providing an exciting trip. The co-guide Adrian was also great. We stopped at the river and were provided with fresh pineapple. They took lots of photos for us! I highly recommend this activity.
Seth_F, Dec 2025
David was our tour guide and he was great! We also enjoyed the short presentation from the local tribe from Costa Rica. The tour itself was relatively boring as we spent t half of our time on public roads. The check-in process was disorganized and busy- granted it was Christmas Day. The shuttle back also required us to wait for 30 minutes or so. Overall an average experience as compared to other ATV tours we have done in other countries.
Lin_Y, Dec 2025
This was hands down the best tour I’ve had in Costa Rica, and honestly the best ATV tours I’ve ever done anywhere.
We were originally scheduled for a 3PM group tour, but due to a mix-up, we arrived around 3:20 PM and unfortunately missed the group. At first, we felt a bit uncomfortable about the situation — however, the staff handled it exceptionally well. Instead of canceling or rushing us, they upgraded us to a private tour, which immediately turned the experience around. That level of customer care really stood out.
Our guide, Charlie Cali, was absolutely fantastic. He was patient, knowledgeable, and never rushed us. As he said himself, this tour isn’t just about adrenaline — it’s about enjoying the journey and the landscape, and that philosophy really showed.
Along the way, Charlie explained Costa Rica’s volcanic history, how lava shaped the land, pointed out wildlife, took us to beautiful scenic viewpoints, and even shared insights about the Maleku indigenous culture. Everything felt natural, relaxed, and genuinely meaningful.
I’ve done ATV tours before — one near Arches National Park in the U.S. that was overly intense, and another in Hawaii near the Jurassic Park filming location that felt quite boring. This tour struck the perfect balance: exciting enough to feel adventurous, but calm enough to truly appreciate the scenery and surroundings.
This experience was comfortable, well-paced, educational, and incredibly enjoyable. I would 100% recommend this tour to anyone visiting Costa Rica.
