Michi was an excellent tour guide! He was very knowledgeable about the history of all the sites we visited, was able to answer all of core questions, and knew where to find cold water when we were all thirsty! We really enjoyed our whole 4 hour tour.

If you are looking for an incredible, stress-free introduction to Kyoto, I cannot recommend Kaeko Tanigawa highly enough!
From the very beginning, Kaeko’s organization was flawless. She met me right on the Shinkansen platform at Kyoto Station exactly as planned, completely taking the guesswork out of navigating a busy transit hub.
In just four hours, we managed to see three of Kyoto's absolute icons—Nijo Castle, the breathtaking Kinkakuji Temple (Golden Pavilion), and Fushimi Inari Shrine. Despite covering so much ground, the pace never felt rushed. Kaeko expertly navigated Kyoto’s city subways and buses, making the transit between sites feel smooth and effortless. Her knowledge and insights brought the history of each location to life.
She perfectly timed the tour to end at Fushimi Inari Shrine, giving me clear, easy directions on how to take the 5-minute JR line back to Kyoto Station. This allowed me to explore the magical thousands of red Torii gates at my own leisure as the evening set in.
Kaeko is professional, incredibly kind, organized, and a wonderful guide.

Our half-day tour with Maya was absolutely perfect, even despite the heavy rains from a typhoon. Maya is incredibly kind, warm, knowledgeable, and we all adored her. She was just as wonderful with my 75-year old mother as she was with my 9-year old and 14-year old daughters. She was flexible and really went out of her way to ensure we had not just a wonderful day and saw the highlights but that we had a wonderful stay in Kyoto. I can't recommend Maya highly enough - one of the best guides we've ever had!

Our family enjoyed a wonderful day touring Kyoto with Maya. She contacted me in advance to discuss our itinerary, interests, ages of our kids, and meeting point. We were able to customize our schedule. Maya gave us history and tradition talks throughout the day. She included stops for snacks and breaks for the kids. At the end of the tour she suggested spots for shopping and dining, then she sent us directions to the locations. We would highly recommend Maya as your guide in Kyoto!

We arrived in Kyoto the evening before and took an evening tour of Gion, close to where we were staying. Unfortunately, that tour left much to be desired so we were a little cautious going into our morning tour with Shu. Fortunately, we couldn't have been more incorrect. Shu was a fantastic tour guide! He met us at our hotel on time, introduced himself (obvious, I know, but something our previous tour guide neglected), showed us a map of the area and a plan for the day and took our interests into consideration when planning the itinerary. We traveled a lot of ground! He introduced us to the public transportation system, demystified some curiosities such as why sometimes people walk on the left and then switch to the right with no apparent reason, and showed us some of Kyoto's highlights. After hearing about our previous tour experience, he even took the time to take us back to Gion to tell us about the history and culture of Geishas and Maikos that we failed to get the previous day, even though it was not part of the original itinerary. When my son was hungry, Shu was patient while we stopped to sit down and get some Tokayaki. To top it off, he showed me some places to purchase Japanese knives because I had indicated I was interested in purchasing some as a souvenir of our trip. I wish our introduction to Kyoto came with Shu. I highly recommend Shu as an A+ tour guide!!!

Our guide was very kind and polite, and she also helped take photos for us, which we appreciated. However, the tour itself was unfortunately quite underwhelming, especially for the price. Most explanations were extremely brief and basic, and we did not learn much about Kyoto’s history, culture, temples, or traditions. At times it felt more like walking around the city with someone accompanying us rather than having a true guided experience. Communication in English was also somewhat difficult, and we ended the tour early because there was not much additional information being shared. While the guide herself was sweet, overall we did not feel the tour provided good value for a private guided experience.

We could not have got around Kyoto in the short time we had (day trip) without Joy. She was amazingly knowledgeable, and spoke very good English. Yuri took us to Uji and Gion. She taught us about the geiko and mako culture. Yuri educated us about the differences hryeeen the Buddhist and Shinto religions. She went into detail about green tea - how it’s made, when it’s made and the different types of tea. Yuri is pleasant, explains clearly and was a joy to be with. We are so happy to have had her guide us around Gion and Uji! Thank you Yuri!

My tour guide Umi was excellent! She contacted me several times prior to the tour to arrange sites to visit. I was interested in quieter spots in Tokyo that hoards of tourists don’t typically go to. I gave a few suggestions and she gave excellent suggestions too. The tour was well paced and I didn’t feel rushed at all. Umi was very knowledgable and kind!

Had a nice tour, enjoyed our time with Mrs. Asaka. I thought she did a really nice job explaining the history and Kyoto. She walked us through the local university campus and we saw the cafeteria on the way back to the train, and it was unexpectedly a highlight of the tour. I loved this private 4 hour tour. The guide contacted me in advance to cater the tour base on my choice of activities. He was a well educated and knowledgeable ex engineer who taught me about history, landscaping and culture while brining me or the bamboo forest, a near by temple, then the samurai castle. He was also very polite and friendly. Overall an excellent day of sight seeing with a wonderful guide.

YUKA was wonderful as a tour guide - full of historical facts and she fully adapted the tour to our interests. She even found us the first blossoms of cherry trees in a Kyoto suburb - just excellent!

As for the transport, we have reviewed your trip and find very little room for decreasing the transport time as you wished to visit Fushimi Inari and then Arashiyama. Maya is a fantastic guide! Such a friendly and knowledgeable person, it was invaluable to have all her insights along the tour, really brought Kyoto to life for us! She also found the best photo spots for us and places to visit. During our visit she answered all of our other questions about Kyoto, too and made excellent recommendations for further exploration of the city and places to eat and shop, too. Simply wonderful!! The guide was so dedicated to this tour commitment and also lovely, but his knowledge of history did not impress us. It may have had to do with the language barrier.

This was the best walking tour we have had in Japan -- not only is Kyoto a magical city but our tour guide 'Yuri' was simply the best. She ensured we visited all the sites of our interest and sped through the transit system like we were VIP. Highly recommend to take a tour with Yuri.

In 2 hours Tomy guided us through 2 shrines, street food, the geisha theatre section, and the subway system. He included a lot of historical and cultural anecdotes. A worthwhile tour.

Fushimi Inari Taisha was a little crowded, but Nanzenji Temple and Konchiin Temple were quiet and relaxing, and we enjoyed ourselves.

Haru is one of the best tour guides I’ve ever met. Very polite and had a great time understanding Japanese traditions and culture as well as the religions. If you could choose your own tour guide, he is the man to go with!

Our guide Mizu was waiting for us at our hotel. She had materials to help us understand Japanese history and religion. She got us around the city on the subway to the different sites. (We would still be there trying to figure it out.) A great afternoon and would hire again.
