It was great ! The tour operator was one hour late but it didn’t matter , the experience was awesome ! I took Bonnibe ( anti motion sickness ) and it saved me . Others were puking right and left I happened to have anti nausea meds on hand so I could help ease the suffering but it was t a cure . The captain and Joshua were awesome . The maneuver tech boat right in front of the whale sharks mouth . It was awesome ! Then a great ceviche lunch !

This experience was so wonderful. We literally saw 100s of whale sharks and they were so incredibly close. It was simply an amazing day! Felipe was a guide. He talked our group through all the instructions, we felt very safe. Just book it, you won’t be disappointed!

Lolo and Felipe were excellent, very friendly and worked hard to ensure everyone got to experience swimming with the whale sharks

Excellent experience to swim with the whale sharks. The boat ride is a bit long to get there, but so worth it.

This was absolutely the best experience ever! The captain and our guide were amazing! Not only did we see the whale sharks, but several manta rays joined the party! We were also followed by dolphins on our way out to search for the whale sharks! Will definitely be back again!

Should be good swimmers, have to move fast to see the whale sharks. Communication could be better on the boat. They dropped us off near a beach and did not communicate that we had to swim in. Had to wait with no sun screen or sun protection while we waited for the guides to make lunch. Other than that a good trip.

We were lucky enough to be there on a day when there were many whale sharks present. Our guide and boat captain were great. Our guide swam with us and guided us the entire time that we were in the water. Many of us became sea sick. Take this seriously. I did notice some people taking Dramamine before getting on the boat. About half of us became sick. It’s an amazing experience but think about how you can best prevent sea sickness ahead of time. I’m glad we went. The whale sharks are incredible.

Felipe and Lolo were fantastic making sure we had the best experience. They shared their knowledge about the whale sharks and made sure we got the most out of our time in the water.
Would highly recommend this tour

We had an amazing time. There were many whale sharks in the area and the crew did their best to get us right up and close to the whale sharks but of course not touch them. I would highly recommend this to anyone interested. Our young family enjoyed the experience (our son is 10).
Thank you Juan and team.

Captain Francisco and Guide Ricky were top notch. Very friendly, personable, and fun. The ceviche and guac they made for snack while at Isla Mujeres was 5⭐️, excelente!
FYI:
- Our boat ride to see the whale sharks took about an hour and 15 minutes to reach them.
- There were tons of whale sharks and manta rays; they do a great job getting you right in the mix to get close.
- They only allow two people from the boat in the water at a time with the guide.
- Half of the people on our boat got motion sick while in the whale shark feeding grounds. Come prepared.
Awesome, once in a lifetime experience. Highly recommend.

Felipe and Lolo were amazing guides! We saw tons of whale sharks and manta rays, and the ceviche was delicious. Our whole party had a great time and would highly recommend.

Felipe the tour guide and the captain were true professionals. This was an experience of a lifetime and they allowed us to have a breathtaking experience. 10/10! 🐋❤️

Had a wonderful time going to see the whale sharks. Our pickup was very smooth and the tour updated us about the pickup time and delays promptly. Felipe was a fantastic guide and Lolo did a great job as well. Felt very safe and that I got the best possible experience. The fresh ceviche for lunch was delicious!

Javier and Joseph did an awesome job. Javier was very clear on the instructions of the equipment, how to get into the water and getting to see the whale sharks. We had a fantastic day, there were at least 20 whale sharks, the day before there were none. So glad Javier took gopro videos because it was definitely a struggle to take our own. Just be prepared for a long boat ride in and out. The lunch they prepared while we hung out in the shallow water on Isla Mujeres was very good, my husband really liked the authentic ceviche. Both Javier and Joseph worked very well together to allow all of us to see as many whale sharks while we were in the water as well while sitting in the boat. So glad we did this, a bucket list day.

thank you! Guests like you make every day on the water worth it.

Amazing experience with great tour guides. It is a long ride out to where the whale sharks are so definitely be prepared if you're easily seasick. 10/10 experience
michelle_j, Jun 2026
The guide was wonderfully with our 8 and 11 year old. We had fabulous experience. My only recommendation would be to have 2 guides to assist in water so we had more time in water per person.
Sarah_D, Jun 2026
Our guide Javier and captain/chef Joseph were AMAZING. Cannot say enough good things about them. 10/10 DO THIS EXCURSION! We saw countless whale sharks and manta rays. Everyone on the boat got to dive twice and no one was disappointed. Not for the faint of hearted if you get seasick though like 2 of the passengers did.

Go!!!!! Go go go!!! Swimming with whale sharks is incredible. I highly recommend doing it. Don’t be scared

Best experience!!!! They went above and beyond to find whale sharks! Highly recommended!! We had the best time!

Walter and Angel did such a great job, from the guidance, to the food, everything they did was great. They really made sure we saw as much as possible... Stayed longer or on the ocean so we could get time with the whale sharks
Maansi_S, May 2026
We did this experience on 17 May 2026 and didn’t see any whale sharks at all, as it is still early in the season, but the team was lovely and we had a nice time regardless. The boat is small and the waves are intense, so I wouldn’t recommend this experience to anyone who tends to experience seasickness. My brother normally never does, and he was on the verge of throwing up; someone else on the tour with us spent the whole ride throwing up. Combined with not seeing any whale sharks, this can feel like a bit of a letdown. Neither of these are in the organiser’s control though — they did their best given the circumstances.

The opportunity to see and swim with whale sharks was a once in a lifetime experience. They were pretty amazing to see when they came up near the surface and they were massive.I am nervous about swimming with big fish but our guide Filipe was so helpful in making me feel safe and comfortable by guiding me in the right direction. It is definitely worth doing but people should be aware of a couple things to ensure your expectations will be met. It is a long boat ride (1 hours and a half to 2 hours) to get to the location where the whale sharks are and about the same to return plus a snorkeling and cerveche stop. There is not a lot of time comparatively spent swimming with the whale sharks. Each person is allowed to swim a maximum of 2 times and only for a couple of minutes each time. You should be aware there is no toilet on the boat and no place to go for about 6 hours. Make sure you go before you board. It was a little confusing at the end of our tour as the driver and guide left somewhere when we stopped in Cancún to drop off other passengers. We ended up switching boats and accidentally left a hotel towel behind. The next day a representative of Isla Fun Tours dropped it off to me at the hotel I was staying at which I thought was above and beyond service.

It was more like an adventure instead of a controlled tour experience. There was a plan but when you want to encounter wildlife in their own environment you have to be patient and be ready in a moments notice. Our guide was awesome and helped us every step of the way!
alliyah_y, Aug 2025
nce in a lifetime experience and unforgettable memories we saw multiple massive males! Getting to be so close to these amazing creatures without having to deep dive was incredible. Staff was so friendly and got amazing footage of us! Lunch, snacks, beer and drinks were all awesome! I know its one of the more expensive tours but definitely worth!! Boat ride is long please drug yourself accordingly beforehand and bring extra with you😂

Great trip!
Not a ton of Whale Sharks but we weren’t in the optimal time of year and the captain and guide put us on those magnificent fish within 1.5 hours of leaving the dock! Lolo and I totally forget his name but it was 8/23 0800 trip!
Both fellows were amazing!

Great experience Love it got to swim with a whale shark Tour guide was great! Explain everything thoroughly! Met new people! I would 100% recommend this experience if you’re not afraid open Ocean
Nadine_M, Aug 2025
An absolutely amazing experience! Jose and Javier were brilliant guides! They were so knowledgeable about the whale sharks and other marine life. Bearing in mind the ocean is immense they managed to find us approximately 10 whale sharks swimming around and feeding. Couldnt believe it! We all managed to get two swims with them. Javier took amazing photos/ videos which we were able to purchase for a really reasonable price. On the way back we stopped at a beautiful beach, where Javier prepared a delicious lunch. It was the most memorable day and an experience of a lifetime! We are a family of four with two teen boys and all absolutely recommend it! Just a tip, take travel sickness tablets-you are out in the open ocean and it is very choppy.

If you get seasick easily, I highly wouldn't recommend this unless you take a lot of medication to prevent it. The guide takes you about 1.5 hours out into the ocean and its a bumpy and wavy ride. Seeing the whale sharks is heavily dependent on the day. When I went, we were only able to see one and go in the ocean for about 5 minutes and half our group didn't get that chance. The guides did everything possible to try to find them for us to see but it is not 100% guaranteed. The worst part about it was the boat ride, but seeing the whale shark was an amazing experience. The guides were truly the best as well!

We booked this tour last-minute, excited by the chance to swim with whale sharks. After reading more reviews the next day, we became a bit uneasy—several mentioned disorganization, overcrowding, or limited sightings. Thankfully, none of that was our experience. It was exactly what we had hoped for, and more.
We were lucky to have excellent weather and even luckier to come across a large group—roughly 20 to 30 whale sharks. While other boats were in the area, it never felt chaotic. The coordination between our captain, Lolo, and the other vessels was seamless. Everything felt safe, well-run, and thoughtfully managed.
Felipe, our guide, was fantastic—professional, patient, and clearly passionate about what he does. His instructions were clear, and he did everything possible to ensure each of us had a chance to swim alongside these gentle giants. Lolo was impressive with how well he positioned the boat to give us the perfect jump spots.
One moment I’ll never forget: on our second dive, I entered the water and immediately found myself directly in front of a whale shark moving toward me, mouth open. Just as I braced myself to move out of the way, it gently pivoted and diverted past me with ease. I swam alongside it, fully in awe of its sheer size and grace. It was one of the most breathtaking experiences of my life.
A few tips to make the most of it:
- Don’t hesitate when it’s time to dive. These are quick, targeted jumps. The captain positions the boat perfectly, and the guide cues you at the right moment. If you pause, even for a second, the whale shark will be far ahead—they are fast.
- Be realistic with your expectations. These are wild animals, and sightings vary. We were fortunate to arrive during a peak time (late July/early August), which gave us higher odds. If you’re outside the prime migration season or only a few sharks are present, the experience may be different—but still remarkable in its own way.
- Respect the regulations. Both the guides and guests must follow strict rules to protect the animals. Your ability to dive may be limited by those rules if there are fewer sharks or if conditions demand it—and that’s a good thing for the long-term health of these majestic creatures.
Bottom line: Don’t be discouraged by negative reviews. This tour was the highlight of our trip to Cancun. With a little luck and the right mindset, it can be an absolutely unforgettable experience. We’re grateful to Felipe and Lolo for giving us such a meaningful and well-executed adventure.

This was possibly the highlight of my whole vacation. The whale sharks are phenomenal: majestic, gentle, and gorgeous. Our captain and guide were so nice and helpful.
Only complaints: sunburn, seasickness, and some injury climbing back into the boat (make sure to use your knees).
