From the moment we were picked up in the morning to our final drop-off in the evening, this Hunter Valley wine tour was nothing short of perfect. Every detail felt considered, from the comfortable, air-conditioned vehicle to the relaxed pace that let us actually enjoy the day rather than rush through it. Our guide was warm, funny, and clearly passionate about the region, sharing local history and interesting facts about winemaking that made the whole experience feel personal rather than like a typicalgroup tour.
The wineries selected were genuinely great choices. Rather than sticking to the big, touristy names, the itinerary struck a lovely balance between well-known cellar doors and smaller boutique wineries we never would have found on our own. Each stop had its own character, and the variety in the wines poured meant we came away having tried far more styles than we expected — crisp semillons, rich shirazes, and a few delightful surprises along the way. The staff at every winery were friendly and knowledgeable, happy to chat about their vineyards and answer every question we had, no matter how basic.
Lunch was a real highlight, with generous portions and a beautiful setting overlooking the vines. The addition of a cheese and chocolate tasting between wineries was a thoughtful touch that broke up the day nicely and kept our palates fresh for the next pour. We even spotted kangaroos grazing near one of the vineyards, which was an unexpected bonus that had everyone reaching for their phones.
What really made the day stand out was how well-organized everything was. There was no scrambling between stops, no awkward waiting around, and no feeling of being herded through a checklist. The pacing gave us just enough time at each winery to taste properly, browse the cellar door, and soak in the scenery without ever feeling rushed or, on the other end, bored.
By the end of the day, we wererelaxed, full, and thoroughly impressed. It's rare for a tour to live up to the hype, but this one did in every respect — the company nailed the logistics, the guide made the day memorable, and the wineries themselves were simply excellent choices that showcased the very best of what the Hunter Valley has to offer. I'd recommend this tour without hesitation to anyone visiting the region, whether it's your first time in the Hunter Valley or your fifth. It was, without exaggeration, the perfect day out.

The locations were interesting with fantastic views. The guide was amazingly knowledgeable and really helpful. I would highly recommend this tour.

Great day with tasty regional wines and liquors. A really fun day for anyone who enjoys fine wine and flavored vodkas and gins.

Thank you for joining us and for the wonderful review.

Cris was an excellent guide/driver. He pulled over to let us get pictures of some kangaroos. The van was not suitable for tall people as the seat rows were too close together. If the van is full it will be quite uncomfortable for tall folks.
Response from Host, Jun 2026
Thank you for joining us! We're glad Cris made it a good time.

Avoid this if you have any experience with wine or touring other vineyards. While the first vineyard was nice, the next two stops were in back rooms of restaurants with no views at all and defeated the point of traveling to see the wine country. To travel two hours, I wanted to see views and actual vineyards, not the lackluster back dining room of a restaurant, crammed with our whole tour group. On top of that, the planning of the day just made no sense. Why would you have us eat a huge lunch and then immediately after in the same room, have us do a cheese tasting? We were also an hour and a half late getting back to Sydney, and the whole day does doesn’t seem worth it.
Response from Host, Mar 2026
Thank you for the review. The back rooms you refer to are dedicated, tasting rooms, the lunch venue overlooks vineyards and you are driving past vineyard after vineyard between venues. We apologies for the late return but there was a major accident on the highway.

Not really wine tour. Only when to one winery and two wine bars. Didn’t need to drive 2 hours each way to goto a wine tasting bar. Could have done that in Sydney. It was so loud it was impossible to here the wine Stewart.
Response from Host, Mar 2026
Thank you for the review. All three wine tastings are at dedicated cellar doors
Caroline_D, Jan 2026
Great experience worth the long journey from Sydney to sample some great wines at three vineyards and then liquors and gin and vodka sampling too, lovely pairings with chocolate and cheese and a beautiful lunch, recommend.
Response from Host, Mar 2026
Thank you for the kind words!

Enchanted by the places, by the wine tastings and the wine related stories! It was such a lovely day!🙏

We were on the January 15th wine tour. I can't remember our driver, but I want to say it started with a D. I do remember he was Brazlian asnd he gave us a wonderful French Asain fusion resturant for dinner. Anyways, he explained how the day was going to go. He was wonderful. The 2+ hour drive both ways was very nice. He told us at every winery what to expect and how long we'd be there. He also was every ones personal photographer. He joked with us. There was a young group of girls who wanted to play thier music. He asked everyone if that was ok. Once we approved, the music was spot on. We all sang to together and made the time even more enjoyable. Thanks a lot. The wine tour was well worth it.

We are glad you enjoyed the tour! Thank you for the positive review.

This was a wonderful trip. Saw several wineries/vineyards. I went to a distillery as well. The driver was very knowledgeable and personable. Highly recommend.
Richard_M, Dec 2025
Cramped transport, def. not premium tour, no a/c on return journey and no offer of even an ice cream or an apology from the tour operator. (In fairness to the driver he couldn’t do anything and was a decent bloke)
Response from Host, Dec 2025
Thanks for the review, Richard. Apologies that the bus developed issues with the air-conditioning on the return journey.
Pamela_L, Nov 2025
Excellent and fun tour. We learned a lot and so many tasting opportunities during our day trip. Our Eddie was also exceptional.
Adrienne_F, Nov 2025
The driver didn’t speak to us until around 30 minutes after we got on the bus. The stops were rushed. It would have been better to have had less stops for a little longer. I definitely would have preferred just wine tasting.and didn’t feel the vodka and gin tasting was enjoyable with its psychedelic colour and glitter. The bus was also not comfortable for a full day trip. Our meals did not arrive with the other ones which then ment we had to leave most of it so the group could do the next tasting. Not one of the best trips I have been on. The area we visited was lovely most for the wine we tasted was good. The staff in the wineries we visited were knowledgeable and some were entertaining too.
Response from Host, Dec 2025
Apologies for the delay at lunch and lack of communication. The driver you had no longer works for our company
Stephanie_S, Nov 2025
Long day but worth it! I would recommend this tour for any wine or chocolate lovers!
Not a fan of the gin!
Katherine_M, Nov 2025
Great day trip about 2.5 hours outside Sydney. Our driver, Tony, was so great and professional and the locations they took us were fun and tasty! Highly recommend!
Ron_H, Nov 2025
Great scenery, drive, company, and wineries. Learned a lot about wine making. Got to sample some really good small batch wines.
Bill_F, Nov 2025
Sober and 4 pines were very good. Eddie (the driver) was good and helpful. Other stops werev okay. Seriously? Shimmering vodka and gin.
Mark_C, Nov 2025
This was a fantastic trip which we would highly recommend. Wine, gin and vodka tasting was excellent. Hannah was so entertaining at our last wine visit. Driver/guide excellent. Lunch was huge with a good choice. Don’t miss this trip well worthwhile.
Cynthia_Y, Oct 2025
Great wineries and beautiful Hunter Valley the pickup was easy. Driver communicated with us before tour.
Patty_W, Sep 2025
Three wineries, lunch and a distillery…such a fun day. Hunter Valley area was beautiful and the wines were delicious. The shimmering gin and vodka were all very good and difficult to choose a favorite. Our guide was wonderful and we even got to see kangaroos!

It is a lot of driving from Sydney and I was disappointed with different aspects of each venue. First one was interesting with best wine of the day but site under disrepair. The spirits I could have done without… they all had edible glitter and colorings in them which in my mind detracted from taste. The third venue is where we had lunch and the wine and cheese pairing. I very much disliked the wine here and the cheese was not the kind I typically consume and was tolerable. There was a nice choice of food to pick from. I got the nachos as did three other gals but we were disappointed that there was no cheese on them as stated in the menu… they were good as they were but just disappointing without the nacho cheese! I tried a dark lager here and it was fine. The last venue was set up nicely and had wine and chocolate pairing. I think I was too tired to appreciate it. Many sweeter and fortified wines here to go with chocolate. I would never have paid this much for a similar experience in the US… very much catered to tourists who don’t really know enough about wine to care what they are drinking.
Response from Host, Aug 2025
Thanks for your review, Karen. The Hunter Valley is 200kms or 125 miles from Sydney and we have stops each way.
We've followed up with our lunch venue about the nachos.
The first venue does take you through the production area as part of our tour, so not sure if it's disrepair or just the nature of a working facility.
The majority of our guests like the range of wines, unique spirits and locally produced food they get to taste. About 35 years ago, I tried meat flavoured ice-cream in Venezuela. Would I have it again? No, but I still tell the story!

The hunter valley is stunning! Our tour was in the winter and it was Perfect weather and scenic views. Our tour guide Peter was great and gave us an amazing experience.
Sylvia_S, Jun 2025
We recently did a wine tasting day tour to Hunter Valley as a group of four girls, and while there were some enjoyable moments, the overall experience was mixed – with the tour starting strong but tapering off quickly in quality and service.
Booking & Pre-Tour Experience
The booking process was easy and straightforward. We appreciated receiving the waiver via email beforehand – though a helpful improvement would be for the tour description to explicitly mention to watch out for the pre-tour email and waiver (it’s easy to miss!).
Pick-Up & Transport
Pick-up on the day was on time, and the location was easy to find. However, with multiple tour vehicles lined up at the same location and no clear signage, we had to approach several vans to identify our group – clearer instructions or vehicle markings would have helped. The driver was friendly and efficient. The drive was bumpy at times but manageable, with one pit stop along the way.
Cellar Doors & Tastings
Stop 1: Winery Tour & Tasting
This was by far the highlight of the day – great wine, a warm host, and a lovely tour that felt engaging and informative.
Stop 2: Gin & Vodka Tasting
Unfortunately, this was a letdown. The staff member conducting the session seemed disinterested and rushed through everything. It was hard to hear her, and the atmosphere became awkward – our whole group fell silent, which says a lot. While the alcohol itself was interesting, the poor service made this feel like a chore.
Lunch
Sadly, this was another low point. The food quality was poor – most of us didn’t finish our meals. On the bright side, we had a private room, which gave us a nice break from the crowded venue.
Wine & Cheese Tasting (same venue as lunch)
Extremely underwhelming. Our driver ended up serving us the cheese initially (which was odd), and when staff took over, the service was rushed and lacked any real explanation. The cheese was basic and not well-paired.
Final Stop: Chocolate & Wine Pairing
Again, a rushed experience with little depth. Wines were decent, but the interaction felt transactional and very much on a tight schedule.
Final Thoughts
Overall, the day was passable. The tour delivered what it promised in terms of logistics and the number of tastings, but the inconsistent service and rushed feel really brought down the experience after a strong start. We left feeling disappointed with how little engagement or hospitality we received at most stops.

Wonderful way to see the Hunter Valley! Great narrative from the bus driver Michael. Time for shopping and comfort breaks. Excellent included lunch. It’s a long day but worth it!

Thanks Kendra! Glad you had a great day with Michael.

Wonderful, joy, fun and enjoyable wine tours.
The guide is on time, give a clear introduction, direction and nice.
The winery GM introduce how the wine been made, introduce 7 kind of wine and give comments what kind of food drink with what kind of wine.
The lunch is great with free wine, beer or juices.
Went to spirit alcohol to try Gin and vodka.
The most impressive is the expresso gin, earl grey tea vodka and chocolate vodka.
Went cheese and wine tasting that cheese is very nice that drink with the wine is prefect.
The last stop go do wine tasting with pairing with chocolate.
The wine lady is so fun, joyful and lovely has introduce wine include the wine culture and kind of chocolate to pair with.
Is happy and lovely tours.

Thanks Wee Wah. Glad you liked the venues we've chosen for the tour!

The wine tours were informative and very enjoyable. The iron gates winery tour was the first and the staff and wine were very good. Gavin our host there was very passionate about his job and the wine was excellent.
The next stop was a gin and vodka distillery, got to be honest, for us this was a bit naff. The staff were on script and it was clear this was the selling stop. Didn't quite fit with a hunter valley wine tour.
We ate at the 4 pines winery and the food was very nice. This was followed by a cheese and wine combo. Some amazing cheeses and good wine as well. But the star of the show was Hannah. She was very entertaining and just like Gavin earlier really knew her stuff.
Last stop was a wine and chocolate stop. For us this was a learning experience, when we thought about it after it made sense but pairing wine with the different sorts of chocolate to adjust the taste of the wine to your preference.
All in all recommended, but I would say it's a long 11 to 12 hour day from Sydney.
Got to add, our driver Peter was also very good, helpful and also knowledgeable.
Response from Host, Jun 2025
Love the detailed review! Glad you had a great day out with us, Anthony.

We all had a great time. Our driver was great. I didn't give a 5 star because the seating on the vehicle was horrible. The seats had no leg room so we were stuffed in like sardines!
