One of our best experiences in Vietnam. Totally loved the day and Thom is a brilliant and funny host. Had loads to eat and so glad we didn't have breakfast before. Lovely boat trip to start and end the tour also. Time went so fast and enjoyed meeting other travellers on the trip also. All round a brilliant day.

Great fun day especially enjoyed the add on of market visit early morning! Enjoyed boat rides too. Lovely to meet Thom’s family who was our guide and chef!

What a fantastic way to learn about Vietnamese cooking. You got taken to the 'Island' by boat. Shown how to make a full meal which you sat and eat with your fellow chefs. Highly recommend.

Cruise the day on a local boat ride 45mins to Grandma's Island with Thom *answering all our questions along the way. We heard about the locals shrimp & mullet farming. On the Island we walked 5mins to a tropical outdoor setting. A delicious Welcome drink on arrival (today was fresh passionfruit). A well organized day full of food, laughter and learning. We hand made our own rice pan cakes filled them with traditional Vietnamese cuisine and dipped in local dipping sauces. We made delicious spring rolls... and made a Vietnamese salad with pawpaw and prawns. There were Vegan and Vegetarian options for each dish. We finished with the Tuna fish Claypot served with rice. Grandma's kitchen shared a taste of their traditional Vietnamese pumpkin soup and an interesting desert. You will definitely not go hungry on this sumptuous tour.

A must when in Hoian.
Truly an incredible experience not to be missed. Thom, our tour guide, was a fantastic host and great teacher. We learned a lot not just about cooking but about Vietnam and got to see a part of life in the countryside away from the city and tourists.
Great value for money and the food was delicious! This was the best activity we did in Hoian.

We were with eight people(a nice small group). The setting on an island near Hoi An in the house of Thõm’s (our teacher cook)mother is perfect. A lovely spot with very nice traditional cooking equipment. We made four dishes that were really delicious. Vegetarian was no problem. We did spring rolls with self made rice paper, papaya salad, an eggplant dish, grilled pork and a fresh tuna dish. The boat trip to the island took about 40 minutes and was also very enjoyable. All in all perfect cooking class.

Grandma’s cooking is the real deal. A boat took us to an island home where our tour guide Thom said she grew up. She demonstrated the whole rice harvesting process using ancestral tools. We then made rice pancakes over an open flame. She instructed us on how to make papaya salad, rice pancakes, spring rolls and tuna in a clay pot. It was all very organized and we really learned a lot while enjoying Thom and fellow travelers. The kitchen was clean and we were served on beautiful blue and white Vietnamese pottery. Expect to spend many hours!

Thom was the sweetest, you could tell she loves her job. The tour was very well organized and the food was superb. We were stuffed by the end.

Truly an incredible experience not to be missed while you are visiting Hoi An or Danang. Thom, our tour guide, was a gracious host and great teacher. We learned a lot about Vietnam and got to see a slice of life in the countryside away from the city and tourists. Not to mention the food was delicious! This was the best activity we did while visiting.

Absolutely fantastic way to spend a few hours. Thom was lovely and speaks brilliant English. Grandma doesn’t come out of the house these days as she’s 100! The food we made was delicious and the cookbook to take home is a lovely memento.

Authentic cooking class with a family vibe. Great journey across the river and a lovely guide in tom.

We had a great day with Thom, it was so interesting seeing the traditional village. The space we prepared the food was clean and authentic. The recipes were great - we will definitely use them at home.

Our day started & ended with a lovely boat ride to/from Grandma's Island. Then, after carrying our chairs from the boat to Grandma's, we enjoyed cooking from Grandma's cookbook 😀Delicious food & a nice day out!

Hello,
I hope you can use this feedback from a very happy participant:
My son and I both loved spending the day in your class. We are both experienced cooks, and enjoyed the day immensely. We learned a lot about the culture, cooked wonderful food, and look forward to sharing recipes with friends. Definitely one of the highlights of our trip, strongly recommended!!

A great day with Thom. The boat ride, the island rural home setting, the set up, the recipes and the warm friendly Thom who is the granddaughter of Grandma. Great instruction, individual cooking stations, educational and cultural insights into authentic old fashion methods of preparing rice milk and rice paper . Charcoal fires for bbq and a comfortable , shaded garden setting. A perfect all round delivery.
Thank you

Stop looking at other cooking classes and book this one! We had such a wonderful day with Thom, a truly unique cooking experience. Taking the boat ride out to the island where Thom's family live was lovely - cool breeze on the river and plenty to look at as we passed fishing spots, farms and houses. A short walk between some local shrimp farming ponds and through the village to Thom's grandma's house where we learned about traditional rice milling methods and made our own "rice milk". We steamed our own rice paper, then used it with the pork we marinated and barbequed on charcoal burners. We made a divine green papaya salad, then banh xeo, and cooked claypot marinated tuna steaks which we sat and ate together in the house. Plenty of time to wander around and explore the area, and Thom was happy to answer all the questions we had about village life, sharing her stories with us. Thom as also amazing capturing photos throughout the day as we cooked! We absolutely loved our experience and couldn't recommend it more highly! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

We had such a wonderful time at this cooking class! Our host was absolutely fantastic, warm, knowledgeable, and made everyone feel welcome from the start. We cooked a variety of dishes, and every single one turned out incredibly tasty. We especially appreciated that we got to take home the recipes, so we can recreate our favorites in our own kitchen. The location itself was also very special, beautiful, unique, and added to the overall experience. It was the perfect mix of learning, eating, and enjoying great company. Highly recommend!

You have to like Vietnamees food, english spoken and being nice company yourself! You travel by boot to the island where the workshop is.

The experience was amazing! Tom (our guide) was very friendly and took the time to speak with everyone. The dishes tasted great (but I made them hehe). Would recommend this tour!

It was a very well organised day. No waiting around. Very efficient. The boat ride was a nice way to see the River Delta. The food was delicious, make sure you are hungry. There is a lot of food.
The guide was sweet, our group was 8 people so not too big which was nice.
Would reccomend this tour.

This is a great day out. It is a big one though so reserve the full day.
The host, food and venue were authentic, welcoming and lovely.
My only negative was there was TOO much food! You might be thinking… is that even a thing!! 🤣. It was all delicious but I would suggest 4 courses instead of the 5. This would shorten it a little bit as well which would be great. Or… don’t eat breakfast!!
Sheila_W, Jul 2025
Don’t over think it! This is the cooking class you want to book! Authentic, fun, delicious food and the host (Thom) was an amazing host and gave perfect instructions.

This is a must for anyone visiting Hoi An.
The whole experience with Nga was amazing.
From the boat ride to rice paper making, then the 4 dishes we made and ate...Exceptional.
Wonderful experience.
Thankyou

This was a great experience and combined learning about the local river and island communities during the boat ride, traditional cooking methods demonstrated, and then actually cooking 4 different dishes and getting to eat them. All while hearing about Grandma, her recipes, and family. Her granddaughter was our guide/instructor and made us very welcome to her Grandma's home!
Note: It all came out delicious but we couldn't finish because it was so much food! 😋😋

By far, this was one of the best experiences we have had while traveling. The guide, the food, the education and the atmosphere were beyond!! A must do for anyone who wants to absorb the Vietnamese culture.

Grandma’s Kitchen was a recommendation from a colleague back home and she said it was a highlight of her trip and we agree. From start to finish Thom takes you on a family journey that reflects their love of cooking and family. Thom shows you traditional methods of food preparation and the layout and cooking stations are fantastic. As a food lover it was a wonderful experience.

Absolutely delighted with our choice to go with Grandma’s.
All I wanted was genuine Vietnamese cuisine and to avoid any touristy gimmicks and this is exactly that. We started off on a relaxing boat ride to the island where Grandma’s house is located.
Thom (who was a fantastic host) gave us a bit of history on the island, the family, old techniques for processing rice and creating rice milk and rice paper.
Then we started cooking. Everything was fresh and tasted amazing. I won’t spoil anything but there was plenty variety.
One bit of advice is maybe don’t have breakfast before the class, they didn’t skimp on the food. Fantastic experience.

My friends and I really enjoyed this experience! First, the meeting spot is in a neighborhood a few blocks away from ancient town and we really like the relaxed vibe there. We took the boat to the island where Thom’s grandma lives. Thom told us a bit about her and her grandma’s story and walked us through how to make rice paper and four different dishes (vegetarian option available). It was lots of good food so definitely come hungry! Thom’s family all helped guide us through the dishes - everyone was very hospitable and kind. Def recommend!

Wonder, fantastic, awesome experience. Would highly recommend. Loc was our teacher and she was so warm, friendly, and knowledgeable on the culture and cuisine Vietnam. The class was super fun and we made dishes that I am going to totally try and make it home! Would highly recommend this trip! You also get to do some hands on learning about how to actually make rice paper so it’s not just you’re sitting watching if she teaches you about the culture then you get to try and make some things and then you also of course do the cooking class and make your own food there really great time
