We absolutely loved this behind the scenes food tour in Hoi An! It ended up being one of the highlights of our entire trip.
What made it so special was how authentic it felt. We weren’t just walking around eating at obvious spots. Our guide brought us to true hidden gems we never would have found on our own, and every stop felt personal and intentional. We had the best banh mi of our trip here and we loved everything we tried!
It was also incredibly educational. Visiting the bean sprout farmers and seeing where the noodles are made was so interesting, and later eating dishes made with noodles from the very place we had just visited was such a cool full circle moment. It gave us a whole new appreciation for the food and the people behind it.
Beyond the food, the experience itself was just fun. Our guide Swan was great and we even made some new friends on the tour!
If you want to understand the culture behind Vietnamese food, this tour is absolutely worth doing. We would recommend it to anyone visiting Hoi An.

This tour was absolutely brilliant. Our guide Thuy spoke perfect English and was extremely knowledgeable, as well as friendly. There were a total of 6 of us in the group which was perfect. We met locals who make beansprouts and noodles, and got some tasty treats along the way. Thuy ensured my gluten and dairy free diet was accommodated and arranged for me to get alternative dishes when required. Highly recommend!

A truly wonderful experience. Thuy is a ray of sunshine and was eager to share her culture and local cuisine with us. The morning tour starts early, but we get to see the farmers in the midst of their work, the bustling market and experience the local people as they start their day.

We had an amazing experience on the Hidden Gems of Old Hoi An tour with Thuy! My friend and I absolutely loved exploring the Old Town with her. Thuy is incredibly knowledgeable and shared fascinating stories about the history, local factory owners, and the origins and processes behind the food we tried.
Her kindness, passion, and attention to detail made the whole experience so memorable. We’re so grateful to have created such special memories with her.
I would highly recommend this tour to anyone visiting Hoi An – it’s a must-do! Thank you, Thuy, for such a wonderful day. We’ll always remember it 🤍

Brilliant evening spent with the excellent host Kim - covering every part of Hoi An giving us a crop to plate experience of the local food and history. We arrived at her house where she couldn't have been more welcoming. She greeted us with coffee to prepare us for the evening ahead and we had a lovely time getting to know everyone before the trip started. She is a proud woman from Hoi An and her knowledge, experience and willingness to share information about how the authentic local food processes work in Hoi An. We had great fun, visited local food suppliers and manufacturers, explored the rice Fields and markets and ate delicious home cooked Hoi An delicacies, in restaurants, on the side of the street and in local houses. Kim was top class, and made the tour for us. There was no question she didnt answer. Overall a brilliant day and a really good way to explore Hoi An and see a side you might never experience otherwise.

Swan and Thuy were incredible tour guides. We learned so much and were able to try dishes we might have missed otherwise. This was one of the best walking food tours we have been on in our travels. Thank you, ladies!!

If you are looking for a real behind the scenes experience, this tour is for you. Getting to meet the people growing and producing the ingredients that make the dishes so good was an honor. They have honed their craft over decades and have a real passion for what they do.
Our guide, Swan, was equally as passionate and knowledgeable, providing us with information on the culture, food, and a variety of other topics as we walked together.
The food that we tasted was excellent and was a great conclusion to a very unique food tour. We highly recommend it!

The best way to escape the crowds of Hoi An by getting up early and seeing how the local still manually make noodles, mung beans and explore local markets you’d miss as a tourist on your own.
Response from Host, Jan 2026
Dear Alli,
Thank you so much for your wonderful review and for calling this a must-do experience in Hoi An ⭐️
We’re really happy to hear that you enjoyed getting up early to explore local markets and see how traditional foods like noodles and mung beans are still made by hand. Escaping the crowds and discovering everyday local life is exactly what we hope our guests will experience.

Our best day in Hoi An started with an early morning tour of people and places most tourists will never see. Quyen (Quinni), our tour guide, started us with morning coffee at a local place, then took us on a walking tour through the streets and alleys to visit the only remaining factory that still makes Bun noodles by hand the old-fashioned way. The owner has been making noodles by hand every day for 50 years. We tasted fresh noodles, and they were delicious! We tried them again later at one of the two local restaurants that serve them. We visited a man who grows bean sprouts. We ate fresh green sprouts right out of the ground, and they were delicious! We then visited a cake maker and tried three kinds of delicious Vietnamese cakes.
The entire way, Quinni was speaking with us in excellent English, telling us about the history of these food makers and their products. Another favorite stop was the street vendor selling a wonderful hot sesame and sweet potato pudding. It too was delicious! We finished at another local coffee shop for a delightful, iced coffee to conclude our tour. I would have done this tour a second time if we had stayed in Hoi An one more day. It was our favorite tour! I highly recommend it!

Very interesting tour, seeing the local noodle and bean sprouts factories, and learn about them and the local lives. Our guide, Kim, was very sweet and full of knowledge and stories to share.
The only things that I think should be considered are:
The first part of the tour was about 2 hours of visiting the factories, walk by rice fields, and visit the first food tasting - 'Ban mi'. Through all this time there was no toilet available, I think it could be changed somehow.
Secondly, we are vegetarian, they said that there are vegetarian options on the tour, but except the 'Ban mi' that could had eggs instead of meat, the other meat dishes did not have any adjusted vegetarian souce other then soy, which made the dishes pretty basic (in the rice cakes and the 'cao lao' dishes the pork souce is the main source of taste). It did not felt like vegetarian options.. if there is not proper vegetarian substitute I would love to know that in advance and make an informed decision before I book the tour.

Excellent tour through the nooks, crannies & alleyways of Hoi An to see and taste speciality foods. Kim is a superb guide!

Amazing experience! We visited a factory to see how noodles and mung beans are made, explored a local market, and tasted so many delicious dishes. The food was incredible, and our guide, Quynh was knowledgeable, caring, and fun. Truly a memorable way to experience local culture — highly recommend!

We had a fantastic tour with Kim and Van! We got to get off the beaten path of touristy Hoi An and see more of how the community lives. Each stop was insightful, educational, and delicious. The tour was thoughtfully put together. We did the 7AM and it was well worth the early wake up. I recommend this to anyone passionate about seeing how the Hoi A community grows, sells, cooks, and eats their food!

The tour in Hoi An was absolutely wonderful! Kiwi and Van were incredible guides—warm, knowledgeable, and so engaging with both adults and kids. My family had a fantastic time, and even my daughters (ages 6 and 4) were completely entertained throughout the day. One of the most memorable moments was watching the locals hand-make noodles right in front of us—it felt so authentic and special to witness such a tradition. Exploring the local market was another highlight; we got to see the vibrant stalls, learn about different ingredients, and taste a variety of delicious foods we never would have discovered on our own. The combination of cultural insight, hands-on experiences, and amazing food made this tour a perfect way to experience Hoi An beyond the usual sights. We loved every moment and would highly recommend it to families and anyone looking for a deeper connection to the local culture.

We were blown away by our hidden gems of Hoi An led by Kiwi and Swan. From start to finish, this tour was absolutely perfect and smooth. Kiwi was very communicative with us over WhatsApp, and had a taxi pick us up at our hotel. We then went to so many amazing local homes to learn about Hoi An and the food they produce. Kiwi was so informative and Swan helped everything run so smoothly by taking lots of pictures and paying for our meals as we left. At our last stop, Kiwi and Swan surprised us with a cake in honour of our honeymoon! It was such a thoughtful touch. And then the next morning, we woke up to a text from Kiwi that she had left us a surprise at our hotel front desk! Absolutely unbelievable service - we will be recommending to everyone we know! Thank you Kiwi and Swan!!!!!

This Tour is an amazing way to discover Hoi An. The food was unique and very delicious, but the tour offered a lot more than just the food. We had a chance to discover local culture, learn about unique traditions and get to know the people who dedicate their lives to create the most unique and amazing food in Hoi An. The tour guides were amazing: they were caring, knowledgeable, funny, and made sure that we had the best time and made this tour one of the most memorable experiences of our trip in Vietnam.

We had the most incredible time on this off-the-beaten-path tour in Hoi An! From start to finish, it was a deep dive into local life that felt warm, genuine, and full of flavor—literally and figuratively.
Our guide, Kiwi, was phenomenal. She had such a kind, welcoming presence and made everyone feel instantly at ease. She was especially thoughtful in accommodating a vegetarian in our group without making it feel like an inconvenience. Her energy was infectious, and she clearly has a deep connection to the community.
We visited local family homes, learned how traditional noodles are made, and even saw how bean sprouts are harvested—a process I never knew could be so fascinating! And the food… WOW. Every street food stop was better than the last, and Kiwi’s insight into each dish’s background made it even more memorable.
This tour was hands-down one of the highlights of our entire Vietnam trip. It felt intimate, safe, and real. If you’re looking for a cultural experience that goes beyond the tourist spots, this is it.
Thank you, Kiwi (and Swan), for making us feel so welcome. You made Hoi An truly unforgettable.

Highly recommend this tour! Our guide, Kiwi, was so sweet - she even surprised my husband with a cake for his birthday at the final stop. The noodle factory and bean sprout factory were so interesting. We loved exploring the local market. And all the food was great! Book it!

Highly recommend this tour, Emily and team were fantastic hosts showing us around Hoi A for the morning, some really interesting local factories and people, and amazing food!! Thank you!!
Dahlia_D, Apr 2025
Worth every penny! We already started at 6 am as it is currently very hot in Hoi An. This was great as we walked around the town only with the locals and saw the city before the other toursists woke up. Every spot we visited was very interesting and our guides were great at giving insight to the people living and working there and the culture surrounding them, not to mention all the delicious food we tried!
Alex_N, Apr 2025
One of the highlights of our trip to Vietnam. Saw many places we wouldn’t have known about if it wasn’t for Kiwi (Quyen) and Lily. Kiwi was very easy to understand and communicate with and showed amazing hospitality. The tour was a really nice balance between history and local culture, economy, and food. Came hungry and left full and happy.
Cass_E, Mar 2025
This was the best tour we did in Vietnam. Emily was an excellend guide, very informative and entertaining. We went to some fabulous places and everyone on the tour raved about how good it was. The food was excellent, the pace perfect for all ages and abilities. Really worth doing.

There would have been no other way for foreigners like us to experience what we did. Our guide took us to home factories that have been making noodles, growing bean sprouts & handmaking treats in Hoi An since olden times. We walked through narrow streets & ancient alleyways, we met the families. It was an amazing adventure.
Michelle_W, Feb 2025
We had a truly memorable time on the Hidden Gems tour. Kiwi led our family to many interesting and beautiful places to learn about small family food operations, many having existed for generations. Our intimate encounters with these culinary artisans took us from small homes to street markets, cafes and local eateries, and we tried many foods we would never have found on our own. Walking between each destination was in itself a special experience, as Kiwi guided us through secret alleys away from the crowded streets. Kiwi was so knowledgeable, personable, and helpful, going the extra mile to make the experience informative and enjoyable. She sent us amazing pictures she took during the tour and was even able to accommodate two vegans in our group. We feel like we got a literal taste of the special cuisines and traditions that make Hoi An a distinctive, flavorful and friendly place to explore.

The morning tour with Kiwi was such an amazing experience. It started with Kiwi being so knowledgeable, kind and attentive. But even more than this it was clear that she had a strong history and love for the people she introduced me to during our tour. Their respect for her put in a position where I felt like I was a welcome guest more than a paying tourist. It was a delightful experience to meet the people, see their amazing craftsmanship (often handed down for generations) and to be able to explore and partake in so many different food experiences. With Kiwi I felt comfortable trying many things I might hesitate to approach on my own simply for not knowing what was being offered. Kiwi bridged that gap for me and I was rewarded with a special and meaningful Ha Noi experience. Thank you Kiwi!

Through this tour, I feel like I was able to learn about a part of Vietnam and remember the virtues, way of life, and purity that I had almost forgotten. The people have such beautiful hearts that I think they will stay in my memory forever. Cảm ơn

Amazing opportunity for us to experience some heritage food producers in Hoi An.
The families running their business for generations are so friendly and welcoming.
Kiwi and Queenie are knowledgeable and encourage us to ask many questions.
Tour is a must for all foodies.

We had a wonderful early morning visiting local business people and learning about their work and lifestyles. They were all very welcoming and proud to show their skills. We also got to eat a bunch of delicious local foods including some tasty street foods in Tiger market. Our guides Kiwi and Quynh were fun and helpful, and Harry (representative who I was initially communicating with) was extremely kind and even dropped off a printed photo from our day and a snack in a bag woven from reeds. Would recommend!

The highlight of this tour for us was definitely visiting the local family producers and learning the history behind the products. The walking tour was a good introduction to vietnam if you hadnt done many tours here before or have limited time in Hoi An as it gave you great history & information. We had Kiwi (Quyen) as our tour guide and she was very knowledgeable.
