The difference between...

Debra_B, Aug 2025
The difference between the Helsinki card & the Copenhagen card is night & day. It’s very annoying that there is no app for the Helsinki card so you can literally see where attractions are located, along with the hours, etc. Also very annoying that after buying the card online, when picking up at airport location, there was a sign with prices and the card was €81, which is more expensive than what I paid Viator for my 48 hour Region card.

Response from Host, Aug 2025

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with the Helsinki Card. We’re sorry to hear that aspects of the card did not meet your expectations, especially in comparison to the Copenhagen Card. Your feedback regarding the lack of a dedicated app is valid—currently, the Helsinki Card does not offer a mobile app with integrated maps and attraction details. At this moment you can get information via Helsinki Card website i.e. what's included on the card and how to use it. Regarding the pricing confusion at the airport: the Helsinki Card REGION is available through various resellers, including Viator. The price displayed at the airport reflects the standard retail rate, and differences can occur depending on where the card is purchased. We apologize for any inconvenience this caused. We hope we can improve your experience should you visit Helsinki again in the future.

Helsinki City Card

Marcella_J, Sep 2024
The Helsinki card works well around town. Many attractions are spread out so make sure you have time to wait for busses. Also, to activate the the card we had to wait until Stockmann Department store opened, went to the 8th floor, and then went back out to catch thr Hop on Hop Off bus. This was a bit time consuming and not as easy to access as other city cards we have used.

Great value

Got the cards at the airport and saved us lots of money with the trains transport.. i even used it on the hop on hop off

Don't buy this card--unknown to vendors

Mark_R, Apr 2023
Don't buy this card--the people we showed it to, had no knowledge of what it was good for. Difficulty getting the card at the Holiday Inn--front desk person didn't know what they were doing, and later when the Customer Service dept asked me about it all, the conversation was then dropped and I've heard no more from them. We were looking forward to saving some money, instead we wasted $190 that was never used. The card is still intact.

Thank you for your feedback. It is very unfortunate to hear that you did not have the experience with the Helsinki Card that you where hoping for. You said that the card was unfamiliar with everybody? We believe the Helsinki Card to be very well known in Helsinki with the attractions included the card. It would be very helpful if you could let us know some of the places in Helsinki where they didn´t know the Helsinki Card? We will then contact them.

Helsinki Card- Not worth the cost

sarahimam, Dec 2022
The Helsinki Card is great in premise. We were denied entry to the panorama bus. Apparently there is a cap on the number that can enter the bus with a Helsinki Card. Paying customers were allowed on. Making money perhaps? Friday’s afternoon all museums are free. We did use the card for things we did not want to see. I can’t recommend this card if it is not honored.

Response from Host, Jan 2023

Thank you for your review! I am sorry to hear that Helsinki Card did not feel the right choice for you. Unfortunately we did have some very busy days at sightseeing tours during the holidays. The only reason you could not take the tour you wanted, was the availability of the seats, not that you had Helsinki Cards. People who were let in had a prebooking. Guests without a prebooking/ticket for a certain time, are served with first come first served polisy, regardless if they have Helsinki Card or want to buy a ticket. Only National Museum of Finland has free entry once a week, Fridays. Other museums can have free entry once a month, two of them every last Friday of the month https://www.myhelsinki.fi/see-and-do/sights/free-admission-days-at-museums-in-helsinki We strive to ensure that when you are buying the Helsinki Card, you have all information available, that affects the decision. Your feedback helps us with this goal. I hope you enjoyed your stay in Helsinki, even when you felt dissapointed with your purchase. Kind regards, Soile Stromma Finland

Great value for money, makes using public transport in a “strange” city so easy, as well as free entry into so many museums, Hop-on, Hop-off bus, as well as ferries.

Get the regional 3 day Helsinki card

Myra_H, Aug 2022
I just picked up the card at the Excess Baggage Store showed her my voucher and voila I have the card. I’m going to use it for museums, hop on, hop off bus and all the cruises. I used it for the train from the airport. It’s great!!

Has Potential, But Didn’t Work Well for Us.

Richard_C, Jul 2022
The Helsinki Card was Just OK. If our plan for the card had worked out it might have been worth purchasing, but that didn’t happen. It is difficult to follow the directions for redeeming the voucher at the Helsinki Airport. The location has nothing to do with the baggage claim area at the Helsinki Airport. It is actually at an Excess Baggage Company store in the Arrival Hall after leaving baggage claim and is located on the left side immediately prior to exiting the airport doors. Additionally, they need a Printed Copy of the voucher. It took over 20 minutes to figure out how to get something from the Viator App to a screen shot to a .pdf and to logon to the store’s WiFi to the stores printer in order to get the required printed copy. Using the card wasn’t hard, but some museums must issue a chit or separate barcode to work with their gate equipment or scanner. Our flight arrival was about five hours late, so the first day we just used the Helsinki Card to go from the Helsinki Airport to central Helsinki Central near our hotel. The second day went well with multiple uses, but the last day we only used the card to ride the trams in Helsinki and to visit the National Museum. We planned to do the 1630 departure for The Beautiful Canal Route by Helsinki Sightseeing;however, when we arrived at their kiosk at about 1615 they told us that was cancelled. It was too late to do the Hop On Hop Off Bus and we had already done the other boat option of Helsinki City Highlights. So… I don’t think the card was worth it for us; your mileage may vary.

Response from Host, Jul 2022

Thank you for your feedback. It is unfortunate that your visit to Helsinki did not go as planned. We will improve the voucher redemption instructions and also the process for handing over the cards. Like you wrote the Excess Baggage Airport Services is located in the Arrivals Hall at the Helsinki Airport, Terminal 2. We are very sorry to hear your flight was late and that you also didn’t have the chance to go on the Beautiful Canal Route Boat Sightseeing. Unfortunately the departure was cancelled due to illness of one of the crew members. We hope that despite the change in plans, you were able to enjoy your visit to Helsinki. Kind regards, Katri Stromma Finland

Well worth it!

The Helsinki card was a great bonus to acquire while in Helsinki! I used it for hopping on and off the buses, the boats, entering museums,&public transportation.

Well worth it

Trail244353, Aug 2019
This was a great card to have. We used all three days we were touring Helsinki. I would highly recommend it. Thank you.

Easy to use straight off the cruise ship! Included everything!

Jennifer_S, Jul 2019
I purchased this via Viator and when I stepped off the cruise ship to go pick up my passes at the Centre, I was told it was an hour walk! However, the City Sightseeing Bus was right there at the cruise port and the manager took my paper voucher right there and exchanged it for daily tickets! I WAS SO THRILLED! In addition, compared to the other "red bus", this card had more options, better routes, and included everything you could possibly want to do. It was great when only having one short cruise stop here to just do whatever we wanted and not have to worry about additional lines for admission or additional costs. It made the day easy and pleasant!

Response from Host, Jul 2019

Dear Sir/Madam, thank you for your feedback. We are glad to hear that your trip to Helsinki was a success and you enjoyed the benefits of the Helsinki Card. We hope to see you again in Finland! Best regards, Karoliina / Stromma Finland

Useful for Getting Around

We used the Card on public transit and also for 3 sightseeing tours - two by bus and one on the water. We used it for entrance to a number of attractions. It worked well for what we wanted.

The Helsinki card is a fantastic idea and covers all the sights, attractions, and public transport you would want to see. I thoroughly recommend it as it will save you money getting into all the major attractions of Helsinki.

Great way to see the city! Easy map to follow and the buses were very comfortable. Some of the ear bud stations did not work on the bus, but it was not a problem finding one that worked.

Very convenient, easy to pick up at the airport even with a mid-night arrival. My hotel was about a 15 bus ride out of city center so I used it twice a day on the busses, just show pass to driver, and could have used it for free travel on the mainline train. The trams are amazing and the card was great for jumping on any one that was convenient - just validate for each journey at machine in tram. I used it for trip on the Suomenlinna Ferry, the Hop-on/off Bus tour and a few museums. Even with 3 full days I couldn't fit in the Panoramic Tour but its route would be very similar to the Hop on/off and a good option for someone with less time. All in all, great decision for me to get the Helsinki Card to experience this fabulous city with ease. Can get discount on the Sibelius Experience with it, too!!

This card was very useful for our stay in Helsinki. We got it primarily for the bus access to many of the sites we wanted to see, but honestly, Helsinki isn't so big or complicated that you can't walk most of it. The HoHo bus was well done but the city history and narrative was less impressive than many other HoHo tours in other cities. We passed by many sites that looked interesting but were not described. Other than that, the card was well worth the price, especially if you only have a couple of days to visit Helsinki.

stella.boswell, Nov 2015
The Helsinki card was very useful but it would have been better to have got it direct from the tourist office as I could not alter the days on arrival. However I was in fact able to use it on what became my third day anyway so all was well. The Hotel Arthur which we had booked independently as excellent, not full of large groups and well placed for local transport but quietly placed near the botanic gardens park. However theOmena hotel in Turku was most unsatisfactory in management and provision. It is designed by Aalto and furnished alright but is in fact a hostel. Although all food has to be brought in there were not even plastic plates and cutlery. Nor were any staff on duty so it was impossible to enter as the number given was only to the external door and not the room number, despite informing them that we were out of communication for a fortnight before arrival on a Baltic tour to seven places. The latter is of course not the fault of Viator but the misleading promotion of the Omena chain.

Anita L, Sep 2015
Again, the pass card is an exceptional savings tool and provides access to many museums and public transportation. We utilized the card for a boat tour which was outstanding. That tour was the best tool to capture the history and essence of how the water is such a key aspect of everyday life in Finland. Locating the Information center where we could obtain the actual card was time consuming.

psimkus, Sep 2015
This card is good if you have lots of time in the city. Not for the cruise passenger on a day excursion. I was able to recoup 75 of the price by taking the Panoramic bus tour, but that's all I had time for before returning to the ship. Easy to retrieve from the tourist office, and the people there are great. Hit city hall first thing for free toilets.

stumpft, Sep 2015
If you are in Helsinki for more than 5-6 hours, then this is worth it. However, coming from a cruise ship and trying to get to the location to get the card was costly and time consuming. Hop-onhop-off do it better and have stops at the cruise port terminals.

iostman, Sep 2015
I got at least double the value of the cost of the card and I was there on a Monday when most of the museums were closed
