Itinerary

After heading out of Dubrovnik in the morning, relax for the 3-hour drive in the comfortable air-conditioned vehicle. Admire the coastal scenery, as you pass over the contemporary Dubrovnik Bridge (also known as Franjo Tudman Bridge) and through rustic fishing villages. Learn about the history of Split from your guide and chat with fellow travelers about your time in Croatia. The itinerary of the day trip is flexible, so your guide can help shape the day to your own interests.

Arrive in Split and begin a walking tour of the center of town. Begin at Diocletian's Palace, an incredible sight: the palace, built in the early fourth century, was home to retired Roman emperor, Diocletian. Around the seventh century, the palace in a state of near ruin, locals in Split began moving in. Today, the palace is part of the fabric of Split, as shops, restaurants and residencies occupy parts of it. Visit the Cathedral of St. Domnius with its tall bell tower, the Roman-era Temple of Jupiter, both located within the palace area.

As the tour expands beyond the palace, stop to rub the lucky foot of the statue of Gregory of Nin, linger for a while in Neo-Classical-accented Republic Square and pass by Metrovic Gallery, an art space dedicated to Croatian sculpture Ivan Mestrovic.

Take a break for lunch (at own expense) at a city center restaurant or continue strolling around the city on your own. Lounge near the sea or while away the afternoon at a cafe. In the late afternoon, hop back in the vehicle for the 3-hour journey back to Dubrovnik.

A wonderful day trip to Split

Our family of 4, with 2 teenage sons, very much enjoyed our day trip to Split from Dubrovnik. Our driver and guide, Ivan, was extremely knowledgable about the history, geography, cultural background of Croatia and we learned so much. We became so interested in the area as a result of our conversations with him that we ended up continuing our research after our trip. He made stops on the way back from Split that matched our preferences and we were able to make the most of our day. Truly an expert guide. The van was new and comfortable. We highly recommend this tour.

Good tour with a great driver/guide.

Great day trip from Dubrovnik

Our driver Ivan was great and gave a good history on our drive. We were able to pick the amount of time we could use to explore the city and Ivan had plenty of suggestions on what to see. Very enjoyable day.

Alex was our driver and our guide for the Private Tour:Split Day trip from Dubrovnik for a party of four two couples for an all day round trip from Dubrovnik to Split on Tuesday September 26, 2017 We highly recommend the drive for its scenery and spectacular panoramas, and can't imagine any driver that we would rather have take us than Alex. He was professional, friendly, and courteous. He has an excellent command of English, and deep knowledge of Croatia and the countryside through which we toured. His commentary on the locations and the context he gave us for Croatia were first rate. Given the length of the drive we also appreciated his choice of music - first rate. We could trust him with our safety and I am a stickler on this in full confidence though conditions that place high demands on a driver - in our case, his day started when he picked us up in Dubrovnik at 8am, continued through our touring of Split in the later morning and afternoon, and then to a winery tour he recommended the winery and it was first rate and our evening dinner in Ston, finally ending a long day by returning us to our rental apartment in Dubrovnik at 9:15pm. Safe, professional, courteous, friendly -- what more do you want in a driver? Which is why we rate him at the top, 5 out of 5.

It was a very well-paced trip that mixed a sufficient introduction to Split with free time to explore. Robert was an excellent driver and guide and Tanya provided an informative overview of the town. Our only suggestion would be to advise travelers in advance that they need to take their passports rather than depending on the driver to do it on pick up. An excellent tour from Dubrovnik if you are not going to stay in Split.

We enjoyed this trip. Good driver and good guide. We especially liked the actual drive from Dubrovnik to Split - great chance to see the Croatian riviera. Only negative thing - we didn't know that we should have had our passports with us as we had to pass through Bosnia-Herzagovinia but our driver sorted everything out for us.
