I had an amazing experience with this tour operator for a day trip from Dublin to Wicklow, and I would absolutely recommend it! From start to finish, everything was perfectly organized. The schedule was clear, the timing was smooth, and we got to see some truly beautiful places without ever feeling rushed. A special mention to our guide, Richard — he was fantastic! He explained everything so well, sharing interesting stories, history, and little details that made each stop even more meaningful. You could really tell he was passionate about what he does, and it made the whole experience much more enjoyable. The van was also a big plus: very clean, modern, and comfortable. It made the journey relaxing, especially with the scenic views along the way. All the people on the tour were friendly and respectful, which created a really nice atmosphere throughout the day. Overall, it was such a well-organized and enjoyable experience. If you’re visiting Dublin and want to explore Wicklow in a comfortable and informative way, this tour is definitely worth it. Thank you for such a great day!

Simply a magical experience….! Our guide Linda made this trip amongst the best I have ever had. Her expertise, fun demeanor, valuable insights made the drive perfect. Riding the horses with two kind guides and a small group of 3 tourists was simply amazing. Even though I have zero experience as a rider, I was given the gentlest horse Tom <3 and good instructions so I felt safe at all times. You’ll ride 1,5 hours through the forest, up a hill and see the ocean. Hiking to the upper lake later that day was awesome, as well. Enchanted monastery, forest and kind people all around. I will not shut up about this day to my friends and would 10/10 book this tour again next time. You’ll make memories of a life time!

Ireland by horse and foot

Laura_G, Nov 2025
Derrick was a wonderful guide. He got us all over beautiful Ireland with great poise and taught us a lot along the way. I’m so grateful to him for his time and knowledge. The staff at the hilltop trek were wonderful guides on ground and trail. The horses seemed well cared for and clearly knew the route over the hills. Horses were saddled and ready upon arrival and we were appropriately paired by size and skill to our steed—as an experienced rider I appreciated that they took the time to cover basics in the best interest of the animal. This trek was for beginners with walking and limited trotting. I still loved taking in the scenery—— had a more advanced course been offered as part of the day with transport from Dublin I would’ve taken that on. Regardless, it was a gorgeous and relaxing ride. Derrick was so valuable to our little group up in the mountains and on the trails in Wicklow. He was funny and kind and knowledgeable. Thank you for a wonderful day!!!

Horsing to Wicklow.

Eric_K, Oct 2025
The horse riding was the best and most enjoyable part of the experience. The guides / instructors did a great job handling all levels of rider and explained things well. The scenery was Absolutely breathtaking! Highly recommend for those that like a bit of adventure and horsing around the area. 😉 Tom the Klydsedale I rode was Huge but well mannered. Feet as big as Dinner plates. The driving and touring bits were very nice also. Connor the horse guide was great. Thanks so much for a wonderful day. 🤩🙏

Magical! Don’t be afraid of poor weather

Catherine_T, Oct 2025
Absolutely incredible tour despite extremely windy and wet weather. I very nearly canceled as the weather looked rough due to the hurricane. I ended up going anyway and I’m so glad I did! The horses were absolutely bombproof and barely phased by the extreme wind and rain. There’s only a small section of the trail exposed to the wind, once you get into the forest it’s nice and calm. It’s an out and back trail though, so you do “the windy section” twice. The forest was beautiful and there were mushrooms and ferns everywhere. It was muddy from rain all week, but the horses had no issues and were surefooted. Got to see a rainbow over the pastures for an idyllic shot. Shout out to “Chocolate” for being an excellent steed! If you’re expecting to ride in wet weather I recommend a proper raincoat as well as water resistant pants and gloves. Tighter fitting pants are best to fit into the provided wellies. Experienced riders don’t feel like you need to bring your breeches, boots, or any other gear. I did fine in jeans and the provided boots/helmet. We kept to a walk the whole ride. The driving tour afterward was beautiful with several pull offs for scenic pics. Delicious lunch at Poppie’s in Enniskerry. The Toblerone cake was incredible. Loved getting out to stretch my legs for a ~60 minute easy hike at Glendalough. I walked the green road to Upper Lake and then up to the Poulanass Waterfall then back. The monastic village is charming and beautiful with the moody weather. Definitely one of my favorite tours ever! Shout out to Derek for being a fantastic guide and driver.

Lovely and efficient trip

Jessica_N, Sep 2025
Enjoyed a scenic horseback ride in the forest and fields. Saw lots of cows, sheep and other horses. The horse staff was very friendly and really explained in detail on how to ride a horse. I appreciated their teachings and it felt like a proper class. Derrick was our tour guide and he was very nice. He was very informative and efficient. Our lunch was a little short but that's how tours are sometimes so I think the negative reviewers should book a private tour if they want to go at their own pace. Derrick provided great recommendations and we made it back to Dublin by 5pm. Perfect timing before the dinner crowd.

Response from Host, Sep 2025

Thank you very much Jessica for the excellent review of your day tour of Wicklow with the horse riding option.

If you are a southeast Asian tourist, DON’T do this

Sasha_T, Sep 2025
The horse ride itself was great but the tour guide/ bus driver’s qualifications were questionable. He was quite rude to my Chinese friend at the start of the trip and rude to her friend towards the end. For context, we messaged to ask if it would be acceptable for us to be 10 minutes late. He called my friend to ask where we were and we gave an update on our ETA, saying that we would actually only be 5 minutes late. He told my friend that this was unacceptable and asked if she thought it was fair that everyone else had to wait. She passed the phone to me because she had a difficult time understanding his accent. Once I picked up the phone, he was far more polite and said that the 5 minute delay was acceptable. We arrived 4 minutes late and he had already walked up the road away from the statue. During the tour, he struggled to answer questions and provided very basic, overviews of the destinations. He constantly rushed us through the tour, giving us less than an hour for lunch and an hour and a half to walk to upper lake and back to the parking lot. When two other participants were nearly 10 minutes late getting back to the vehicle, he was polite with them saying it was no problem. We felt the difference in how he treated the other non-Chinese participants relative to my friend was disheartening and racially charged. Lastly, when the friend of my Chinese friend asked if she could be dropped off on the way to the designated drop off spot, the guide declined in a very blunt, rude tone. He later changed his mind (for some unknown reason) and dropped her off. Overall, we really enjoyed the scenic views and the horse tour (despite a few hiccups - one participant fell off her horse because the saddle was loose but she was Okay) but the tour guide’s attitude really soured the experience at the beginning and towards the end of the tour.

Response from Host, Sep 2025

Hi Sasha, That was me you were talking to on the phone and you told me first that you would be 10 minutes late, which i advised you that the tour may be gone. I then got in touch with your guide and asked him to wait. So I then rang you back and told you this. I had now way yo know which part of the world you are from so you racism remarks are offensive to me and particularly after I went our my way to assist you for being late. I really have to question the rest of your review as I know that our guides are very friendly and helpful and maybe you were just having a bad day.

Not enough time in Glendalough, all a bit rushed

Fleur_D, Sep 2025
Good spin around the countryside, but unfortunately I think they tried to cram in too much. There was not nearly enough time to take in Glendalough, for example. Not sure Enniskerry was a good lunch stop really. Entire trip could have worked better with an extra 1-2 hours. The driver of the van also had to do the guiding/talking, which resulted in, I think, less information and quality/accuracy of detail than some other tours. Pleasant but not exceptional, and as I said, too rushed!!

Response from Host, Sep 2025

Thank you for your feedback Fleur. We do try to give you as much tome as possible of the bus but we do need to also get to these places, its a fine balance.

Great Tour, Thank You Derek!

Ronald_R, Aug 2025
Derek was an awesome guide and driver. He went above and beyond to make sure we had a great experience. The horseback riding was professional, and Joe at the stables made everyone feel comfortable on their horses. This is an activity you must not miss, it was the highlight of our trip. Thank you again, Derek, for a wonderful day. We appreciate you not only giving us directions on the tour, but going along with us to ensure we didn’t miss both the upper and lower lakes. You are a true asset to your company.

Nature, horses, and a wonderful guide!

Highly recommend!! Our guide/driver Linda from Hilltoptreks was informative, funny, and kind! It was a highlight of my trip!! I have zero experience horse riding and I had a great time! You are taken through the enchanting mystical forest and the quiet clomping of hooves is very calming. Go for it!!

Response from Host, Aug 2025

Thank you very much Kiana for the excellent review.

For outdoor enthusiasts!

Jennifer_P, Aug 2025
Perfect mix of outdoor activities. I would recommend checking out other places besides Poppies for lunch. Also, would have loved much more dialogue from guide. There is a gorgeous waterfall hike past the Upper and Lower lakes that is not mentioned. As well as iconic Dublin landmarks that were not mentioned, though plenty of time.

Response from Host, Aug 2025

Thank you very much Jennifer for the excellent review.

Great Tour
