We booked the Howth hiking excursion with Howth Adventures through Viator, and it turned out to be one of the highlights of our trip to Dublin. The route took us along stunning cliffside paths, up to the top of Howth with breathtaking panoramic views of Dublin Bay, and then back down into town. Every step offered something new and beautiful.
Our guide, Zack, was fantastic. He’s incredibly knowledgeable about the history, nature, and hidden gems of the area, but what stood out most was how easygoing and passionate he is. You can tell he genuinely loves what he does, and that enthusiasm made the whole experience even better.
Adding even more charm to the day was Zack’s friendly dog, Loki. Loki quickly became part of the group, posing for photos like a seasoned pro and bringing lots of smiles along the way.
This excursion struck the perfect balance of exercise, scenery, and storytelling. I can’t recommend it highly enough. If you’re anywhere near Dublin, do yourself a favor and book this tour. It’s an experience you’ll remember long after your trip.

My guide was a wonderful story teller. The hike was just beautiful. In spite of the clouds and impending rain, we only had minutes here and there of drizzle. A raincoat and waterproof shoes were a must to keep dry.

We couldn't be happier to hear that your Howth Adventure was one of your Dublin Highlights, that is certainly an honour. Zack (& Loki) will be so pleased that the day left you filled with such great memories. Thank you for sharing, it reminds us why we do what we do.

Shane is absolutely amazing. He's very engaging with everyone in your group, inquires about the group's experience levels and ensures a fantastic day for all. The topper though are his life experience stories. If given the option, make sure Loki joins you. Truly a wonder dog. Such a friendly, fun addition.

Rob was a phenomenal guide , we hiked approximately 6 - 7 miles over various terrain from flat to rocky areas with steps, we fortunately had beautiful weather, the views were spectacular. Suggestions: dress accordingly with good footwear. This hike isn’t for the faint of heart.

Zack was a fantastic guide through Howth! We started the morning with fresh lattes and scones, then hiked along stunning ocean cliffs. A beautiful, memorable experience — a must-do when in Dublin!

It was so amazing to see so much of Howth in the company of such a genuine guide. I took this tour as part of my first solo trip and could not recommend it more. We got to see and learn about so many different aspects of the area!

Had a wonderful day with Shane and his dog Lucky!! He was so friendly and knowledgeable. The 10 km hike was invigorating and not too challenging.
Alison_H, Sep 2024
Great group, awesome guides. The pace uphill was quick but the view was totally worth the effort. The video after the tour was exceptional addition to make the trip even more memorable.

Breathtaking views and an exhilarating hike! Our group was led by Shane and his dog, Loki. We had a fantastic time as Shane shared lots of history about the origins of Howth. The hike was around 7 miles and was strenuous at some points. Recommend bringing water and a snack.

If you are an avid hiker or a novice wanting to see the natural beauty of Ireland, Howth Adventures has an afternoon to remember waiting for you. From the marina to the cobblestone streets to the 360 view of the peninsula, you will take in the flowers, view of the sea, monuments of Dublin, and the seas and dolphins in the distance.
Zach was welcoming - sharing Irish history, knowledge and patience as. And the new guide Matt was an attentive host full of history local tales and helping hand.
My sister said it was her favorite thing we did in Ireland - and we did 6 tours - and she doesn’t really hike.
And we would not have found without Viator. Thanks Howth Tours - we hope to be back!

Our guides Sean and Des were amazing. They had great local knowledge and they were super friendly and encouraging! We loved it, but note that it is a long hike with a couple of somewhat strenuous areas. Definitely bring water, snacks and sunscreen. Our family thought it was the highlight of our trip to Ireland!

Dee was a wonderful guide!I ended going a on private tour with her and I learned so much about the Howth area and culture. This was a mildy challenging hike with an amazing reward.I had the best time ever and would recommend Dee and Howth Adventure to everyone!
William_B, Nov 2023
The hike around Howth was beautiful and fun. It was about 9 miles with some hills - hiking shoes are helpful. The views were amazing. Our tour consisted of 7 people - 2 families of three and one single person. A great group with easy conversation.
Dee is a wonderful guide! She’s friendly and local and very knowledgable. Her stories and enthusiasm made the hike even better. This was a hike she did regularly even before she was a top-notch tour guide.
If you’re staying in Dublin, just hop on the DART to Howth. Easy trip and highly recommended.

The guide Paul was excellent in his knowledge of the area and flexible in making sure I got the best hike for me. This Coastal Hike gave me a good insight into Ireland and some of it's people. I was truly impressed!

Sean was amazing. So full of knowledge and a really great storyteller. My kids just loved it - ages 12 and 16.
JennyMarie_S, Jun 2023
Awesome experience with our amazing guide, Dee! Glorious blue skies and views all day.
Easily the highlight of our trip to the Dublin area. We are experienced hikers but having a guide made all the difference.
Dee made the hike what it was, an informative and thrilling telling of the history and culture of the area and took us through less traveled trails. She was knowledgeable and kind and knew the flora and fauna of the region well.
She was very accommodating and made sure everyone was comfortable during the hike.
Remember the importance of proper footwear and bring enough water, food and snacks. It is a full half day experience.
We highly recommend Howth Adventures!😊
Kristen_D, May 2023
Shane and Loki took us up and down green hills dotted with wildflowers, over rocky beaches and through sea caves exposed to the low-tide, and through the charming village of Howth. Along the way we learned of the forest, Vikings and druids, plants, trees, birds, and everything else there was to know about the coast and peninsula. Shane was an amazing conversationalist and told the best stories. We highly recommend this tour and would 100% go again!
Ravyn_C, May 2023
If you really want to experience the real beauty of Ireland then join Loki, Zach and Debbie on a heart healthy adventure along the coast of Howth. The untouched beauty is unlike anything you will experience. This adventure will test your abilities and guaranteed to make you feel like you can conquer the world!
Nathalie_D, May 2023
The meeting spot is very easy to find. Zach was our guide and Loki, the dog, came with us. Zach gave us information about the history of Howth and Ireland itself.
Loki is very cute and well trained and she even knew when she had to pose for a picture.
The level of walking/hiking in our group was very different but Zach really tried his best to let everyone feel included and gave some easier en more difficult options along the route.
I really liked the local feeling. It was a very relaxing day, beautiful nature, nice talks and we tried a local beer at the end.
Amy_K, Apr 2023
Honestly the best excursion of our trip to Ireland. Zach and Loki are utterly fantastic. Zach is a true joy being a local and knowing everyone in Howth. He was able to get us to the best sights and views with fun history and lore. It was wonderful we had a fit group so we could do more difficult portions of the trail and he took the extra time with us to do that. Loki was a beautiful ham, posing in all the pictures with us. Overall one you don't want to miss.
Tara_C, Mar 2023
This was the best part of our trip to Dublin! This is a great way to get out of the city and see the countryside within 50 minutes of Dublin! Zack and Loki were our guides and showed us some of the most breathtaking views to be seen. Zack was great guide, who went at a pace that suited all in our group (7 total). He was very informative, accommodating and overall wonderful person. Highly recommend Howth Adventures for anyone travelling to Dublin!
